Bowie, MD (I- Newswire) February 07, 2012 - Treadmill workouts are an incredibly way to perform weight maintenance while getting a cardiovascular and aerobic workout. Using a treadmill as a platform to build up your endurance is a good way to build your exercise self- confidence and motivation. It is left up to the individual to decide both how long and how fast they want to run. Using a treadmill will allow you to do both of these things, as you can electronically manipulate the speed, or set the machine to stop at a predetermined distance or time. Most treadmills also have an "incline" option which allows you to set the grade/ incline to increase resistance. The higher the incline, the more you will have to exert yourself to reach your goal. Think of it like running up the side of a steep hill as opposed to flat pavement. Treadmill workouts can be used in a variety of ways from being a simple aerobic warm- up (running for five minutes to get your blood pumping and your muscles working) to being a full- scale 26.2 mile marathon machine. Using an elliptical machine makes weight loss easy. Coming up with an elliptical workout plan for weight loss is simple. All you need is access to an elliptical training machine. These machines are wonderful, as they are low impact while allowing your body to move naturally in a walking or a jogging motion. Low impact workouts reduce the stress on your muscles and your bones which lead to shin splints and muscle fatigue, meaning that you can train longer and achieve better results. Elliptical training machines also give you a full body workout. The vertical handles of an elliptical machine work in tandem with the footholds, providing your arms with a bit of resistance. Elliptical workouts work great when it comes to weight loss. On average- because your body will be working at a much higher resistance to make the machine move (though you may not be able to "feel" the resistance)- using an elliptical trainer for an hour a day can help your body to burn up to 800 calories. Roughly translated, with proper diet and nutrition, that 800 calorie loss can translate to up to a pound or more of weight loss per week. During the cold winter months, sometimes it is difficult to get outside and ride a bike- or perhaps you do not own one. Indoor cycling routines are a wonderful way to build up your cardiovascular endurance, build muscle, and lose weight all at the same time- and you don't even need to go outside! As with running, it is important to build up your endurance first before embarking on a long indoor cycling adventure. Using an indoor bicycle for a half hour is a good place to start. Some indoor bicycles are mechanical and will allow you to set a certain resistance level for the pedals so that you can focus on strengthening your quads or your calves. Indoor cycling routines also involve your upper body and help to build upper body strength because you will be using the bike's handles to help keep yourself balanced.
