As a sponsor, Science Weekly Magazine is honored to support and participate at this gathering to further discuss the issues and organize progressive action toward solutions for the growing needs of African American males in our schools and communities. We, at Science Weekly Magazine know that change cannot take place without a strategic plan. We will collaborate with and follow the lead of the Department of Education and the Council of the Great City Schools and directly contribute to effective in- school implementation of 21st century education goals by engaging students in real- life, problem solving, and project- based learning. As a culturally responsive teaching tool, Science Weekly Magazine is developed to reach all students, including the African American male, and will help to increase not only the graduation rate of our students, but also their quality of life and civic service, by fostering a learning environment where excellence is inclusive and all students experience success. This culture of inclusiveness enhances the trust between student and teacher and encourages students to take risks in the process of learning. Our products are designed to provide high quality learning environments that attend to the affective and cultural needs of students and parents, the differences in the teaching and learning profiles, and fostering self- confidence and self- reliance. In the spirit of inclusiveness, Science Weekly Magazine reaches out to all types of K-6 education environments and is connected in partnership with organizations that support and promote the education of minority students, placing a due emphasis on reading literacy as well as STEM skill development. National partners such as the National Council on Educating Black Children (NCEBC), the National Alliance of Black School Educators (NABSE), and the National Black Home Educators (NBHE) have embraced Science Weekly Magazine's goal to combine experiences and expertise to capture this generation of students' interests and motivate their desire to learn and achieve. School districts and communities have been working together to improve the lot of African American males for decades. But the disappointing statistics have not changed. As a community of Educators and Education Supporters, we understand the urgency of the need to provide African American males the extra support to close the achievement gap. Going forward, however, we must challenge ourselves to identify and focus on common goals, develop coherent and cohesive strategies - AND implement systems and strategies that will positively impact more students and will not be contingent on budgets. The US Department of Education and the Council of the Great City Schools are calling us to action! Science Weekly Magazine is proud to answer the call and grateful for the opportunity to be included in the supporting structure and active implementation of the plan to improve the outcomes for our African American males.
