CRICKET TEAM GOES FOR GLORY IN REGIONAL TOURNAMENT Handsworth Wood cricket team is gearing up to play in one of their most important games to date, the local side has managed to reach the final of the Midlands regional cricket tournament. The team has faced tough opposition from different teams from around the Midlands but have looked impressive throughout and have shocked many people by reaching the final. Many of the boys on the team live in the Handsworth Wood area and are hoping to impress even more as coaches from various county cricket teams will be watching the match. This therefore would be a great opportunity for the players to catch the eye of the coaches and hopefully become professional cricket players. The teams captain Jaynesh Patel spoke to The Handsworth Wood Voice and told us that the team was ready for this big test and added “We have been preparing for this for a long time and were really excited to have got this far but we really want to win and know that we can. All of the lads in the team have been excellent and we know that we’re all going to have to give our best to win in the final.”

The team qualified for the tournament by winning their local cricket league however they were seen as underdogs in the tournament and written off early as potential winners. Consequently their great performance has shocked many and showed that the team has a great spirit and has displayed the players talent. The final match which is to be held at Edgbaston cricket ground will also be a great day for the team to enjoy as they will get all the luxury treatment that professional county cricketers receive.
