The Global Health True Leaders 2016

E Currently, Indonesia has entered the era of ASEAN free trade. It is certainly affect the whole sector in Indonesia and other countries in ASEAN region. Moreover, the number of good leader especially in health sector in South East Asia is still low. The world needs more leaders to lead our community to reach better life in the future. We need more leaders who brave to speak up in international forum for the community. One of the fundamental sector that needs to be addressed to solve this condition is education. In order to compete in a positive way, countries in ASEAN region need to increase the quality of the human resources. To answer this challenge, INDOHUN, has a leadership training program on global health, that widely known as Global Health True Leaders (GHTL). In this year, 3 batches of GHTL was conducted in 3 different provinces in Indonesia, i.e West Sumatra, East Nusa Tenggara, and Bali, with the total participants are 165 young people, aged 20-30 years old, originating from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.

GHTL Batch 6 Participants enjoyed the nature of Ngarai Sianok after had a very challenging national leadership initiatives. GHTL Batch 7 Participants got an experience to celebrate Indonesia’s Independence Day with thousands new students of UNDANA

GHTL Batch 8 participants originated from 4 countries. Through mutual respect to other culture, they are united and work together. There is no more barrier language.

E GHTL Batch 6 was held on July 29 – August 4, 2016 in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra. This training was participated by 53 young people from several health sciences educational background, i.e medicine, veterinary medicine, public health, nutrition, pharmacy, midwifery, etc. Meanwhile, GHTL Batch 7 was held in Kupang, NTT on August 11-17, 2016. Fifty nine (59) people participated. And last, GHTL Batch 8, it was conducted in Tabanan, Bali, on August 24-31, 2016. Fifty three (53) people from 4 countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam) attended and involved actively in this Batch 8. GHTL 2016 was held for 7 days. At the first 4 days, the participants trained in the class. Participants got the knowledge of global health and leadership. Not only the lecture method, but also respect, collaboration, team building, leadership, etc. which trained to participants, using many methods such as team building exercise, role play, public speaking simulation, and team discussion, participants have chance to exercise and increase themselves. The next day, participants visited several places which related to leadership implementation and real situation in community. We asked them to understand how to implement the good leadership in different situation in community. On the 6th day, the participants have chance to implement their improvement skill in the field with serve the local community. At the end of training, the participants got the leadership exercise through the limitation of teamwork and each individual. With this exercise they knew their strength and ability.

Beside doing training in the class, GHTL participants were also taught how to get the very healthy body by doing morning exercise every morning.

The in-class-training atmosphere. Collaboration and Team work are our strong points.

During 7 days of training, the committee, trainers, and participants engaged and did the collaboration with Indonesia Armed Forces (TNI) and Regional Police Department. We believe the collaboration with the TNI and Police could help participants to gain more discipline, brave, and responsible. Furthermore, this collaboration will be very helpful in order to shape the True Leader character, particularly the firmness and discipline. As we have known, TNI (Indonesian Armed Forces) and Police are recognized as the institutions with great integrity. This collaboration gave a new unforgettable experience to the GHTL participants. At the beginning, it was challenging for trainers and organizers to make participants wake up earlier in the morning and do the morning exercise. Yet, it was a precious moment also. Moreover, to get up early, the GHTL 2016 participants felt ready enough to seize the opportunities on that day. In addition, this way had successfully made the participants involve actively in every activity of GHTL.

To be an international leader, the participants were challenged to speak properly in front of the international forum role play. The role play was one of the teaching method of GHTL that brought real experience.

One of our fun experience. Besides serious side of GHTL, the participants were also taught to be a lovable leader by being a cheerful person through games that improve their capability to work in a team and maintain their emotion.

We used paper as one of the teaching tool, but, the participants were also had to be capable to work using high technology. Because, their future coworker may lives overseas.

E Currently, zika is reported spread to 65 countries. The infection has reached Africa. The experts said that infection occurs more during summer. And at the same time, many people across the world will travel. This could make the transmission spread massively. The temperature during summer will be very suitable to the mosquitos’ life. The researcher, Oliver Brady stated that India, Indonesia, and Nigeria are the countries with the highest risk at zika virus.

“If this virus move to these countries, then the health system in it will be in a chaos situation" A professor in molecular virology from University of Nottingham, Jonathan Ball, stated that travel activity and trade will be a mediator in spreading zika to the world. And one of the way to search its transmission is by doing a direct research. The General Director of Disease Control and Environmental Health, Ministry of Health, Muhammad Subuh, stated that zika had been found in Jambi, Indonesia. This occurred when there is a dengue fever outbreak in the end of 2014-April 2015. Source : Republika and Tempo News Portal

Singapore : ZIKAis Sixteen women in Singapore are confirmed to have Zika, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Friday (Sept 23). The number has doubled from the eight cases that were confirmed on Sept 11. MOH added that 658 Zika tests were done between Sept 7 and Sept 17. Of these, 197 were for pregnant or symptomatic individuals who require the test. Two new cases of Zika were confirmed on Friday, bringing the total to 387. This serious condition needs to be aware. Indonesia's Ministry of Health - in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs - issued a 'travel advisory' for Singapore to guard against the spread of Zika. This advisory was aimed at alerting citizens of Indonesia to the severity of the conditions in Singapore. This is not a ban. Although there is no prohibition to visit Singapore, Indonesia has stepped up protective measures by using the thermal scanners at the airports and border checkpoints. Furthermore, there are several countries across the world that have issued a Zika travel warning. The United States is one of them. Another country which has issued travel warning for Singapore is Britain. In addition, Britain says Thailand is high risk and the Philippines and Indonesia are a moderate risk. This statement is reinforced by the warning of The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control. They said, travel to Thailand and Indonesia is risky, but omits the Philippines. Source : Straitstimes Singapore, Reuters, and Indonesia-investment News Portal
