Independent Living Services is a nonprofit agency whose mission is to assist in making a better life possible for people with intellectual disabilities. Independent Living Services recognizes each person as different and provides an array of services to best meet individual needs while maximizing choice.

Independent Living Services employs over 375 people and supports the needs of over 200 people with developmental and intellectual disabilities in seven counties in the state of Arkansas. PROFILES

Profiles Enrichment Center, established in 1996, is a day program that provides adults with developmental/intellectual disabilities the opportunity to further their learning either in a classroom environment or in a pre-vocational setting.

HEALTHY LIFESTYLE PROGRAM

Consumers and staff participated in the “Pound for Pound Challenge” sponsored by The Biggest Loser. They pledged to lose 255 pounds by June 2010. For every pound our team loses The Biggest Loser sends a pound of food to our local food bank. As of May 2010, individuals at Profiles have lost over 220 pounds.

KAMP KAHUNA

Kamp Kahuna was held May 24-28. Camp consisted of Groovy Pet Day, Carnival Day, Park Day, Water & Cookout Day, Talent Show Day and ended with a dance on Friday evening. kaleb Barrett

Kaleb worked as a Client Delivery Analyst for Acxiom Corporation in Conway for twelve years before taking a job at Independent Living Services. After college Mr. Barret worked for Integrity, Inc., a Little Rock-based community services organization providing health care, rehabilitative and child care services.

Jennifer HENNESSEE

Prior to her promotion to Case Manager, Ms. Hennessey worked a variety of positions at Florentz Estates while studying Sociology and Psychology at the University of Central Arkansas. She is officemates with Carlila Embry at Profiles Enrichment Center.

David Edwards

Prior to his promotion to Case Manager, David worked as a Direct Support Professional at Profiles Productions and Florentz Estates for nearly two years. David attends New Life Church and has been married for three and a half years.

CONWAY REGIONAL HOSPITAL

OUTREACH

Consumers who attend the Profiles Day Program, a part of Independent Living Services, recently donated 11 memory boxes to the Conway Regional Perinatal Bereavement program. The boxes were made as part of a special interest class taught by art instructor David Antonio and volunteer Joyce White. Independent Living Services consumers also provided get-well cards for children experiencing outpatient surgery at Conway Regional as well as birthday cards for homebound patients.

KNITTING FOR NOGGINS

The hat knitting class at Profiles Enrichment Center knitted and donated over 200 hats to the Arkansas Children’s Hopsital last year.

HAITI RELIEF

Consumers at Profiles Enrichment Center sold Valentine’s Day treats to raise money for the Haiti relief effort. Sara Storts and Andrea Holmes, on behalf of the Consumer Council, presented a $203.00 check to the American Red Cross of Greater Arkansas.

ST. PETERS FOOD DRIVE

Our consumers were able to collect and donate over 75 pounds of food.

BACK TO SCHOOL DRIVE

Collected school supplies for children at Guy-Perkins.

HOSPICE VOLUNTEERING

Five ladies who attend Profiles Enrichment Center, a day program for adults who have developmental disabilities, recently received their certificates for completing their training to become Arkansas Hospice Volunteers. The ladies will be visiting hospice patients in local nursing homes.

ACTS

The Acting Creates Therapeutic Success Program, sponsored by the UCA Occupational Therapy Department, provides opportunities in performing arts for many of our consumers. Thanks to the efforts of over 25 Occupational Therapy graduate students and our visual arts program at Profiles Enrichment Center, last year’s performance was a success.

ROBERT R BROWN CAMP

Ten of our consumers participated in this year’s Robert R. Brown Session held at Camp Mitchell on Petit Jean Mountain. These sessions are designed as both a retreat and as a social and recreational outlet.

TRANSPORTATION

With no public transportation in Faulkner County, our consumers depend on our fleet of over 30 vehicles for transportation to employment opportunities, social activities, medical appointments, shopping trips and volunteer opportunities.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

Independent Living Services has coordinated transportation activities with the Boys and Girls Club of Faulkner County as well as the Faulkner County Council on Developmental Disabilities.

GRANTS

Section 5317 - Elderly Persons with Disabilities Grant Funds from this grant were used to help purhcase a new 2009 Ford 450 Medium Cutaway Bus, 19 seat with 1 wheelchair. This vehicle provides tranporation to consumers living in the Greenbrier area. Section 5310 - Capital Assistance Program This project will replace an aging seven passenger minivan located at Ross House group home. Once acquired, the van will be used for shopping, medical, personal and recreational purposes.

ACCREDITATION & LICENSING CARF

CARF is an independent, nonprofit accrediting body whose mission is to promote the quality, value, and optimal outcomes of services through a consultative accreditation process that centers on enhancing the lives of the persons served. Independent Living Services is accredited by CARF until May 2011 for the following services: • Community Services: Community Housing • Community Services: Community Integration • Community Services: Supported Living • Employment Services: Organizational Employment Services

ACS WAIVER CERTIFICATION

Under the provisions of Act 348 of 1985, the Division of Developmental Disabilities Services certified that Independent Living Services has met the requirements for Regular Certification for the following ACS Waiver services: case management, supportive living, adaptive equipment, consultation services, crisis intervention, environmental modifications, respite, specialized medical supplies, supplemental support, supported employment.

DEVELOPMENT

Independent Living Services has made the switch from quarterly print newsletters to more efficient email updates. Depending on the availability of content, e-mail updates are scheduled to run anywhere between once per month to once per week. The move to e-mail updates will save Independent Living Services several thousand dollars per year. Information distributed through our e-mails may also be found on our blog at www.indliving.org. GIVING

EMPLOYEE GIVING PROGRAM & AUTOMATIC MONTHLY GIVING In an effort to make the giving process easier, the employee giving program and an automatic monthly giving option has been made available. The employee giving program allows our employees to donate through payroll deductions while the automatic monthly giving option enables our donors to donate a pre-determined amount on a monthly basis without writing checks.

Our social networking strategy is as strong as ever. Social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and YouTube have allowed us to reach more people than ever.

The proceeds from the 5th Annual Golf Ball Drop were used to help purchase one handicap accessible vehicle — 2009 Ford 450 Medium Cutaway Bus, 19 seat with 1 wheelchair. TRANSPORTATION

With no public transportation available in central Arkansas, our consumers rely on our fleet of over 30 vehicles for transporation to medical appointments, employment and volunteer opportunities, shopping trips and to other necessary destinations. The Independent Living Services Foundation is used primarily to fund our transportation program so that our consumers may live a productive and independent life in central Arkansas.

PROGRAMS

The Independent Living Services Foundation is also used to expand existing programs and to create new programs.
