Let’s Reunite 1

Hello! I would like to personally invite all members of the Indiana Association of REALTORS® to attend their state association’s conference & expo this September 20-22 at the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown. Have you ever been to one of these conferences? I always walk away feeling grateful that real estate professionals from across the state can gather in one place at the same time to learn, exchange ideas and discuss the most important issues of the day. Not every industry can do it, or do it with such style. While this annual event offers a powerful networking opportunity and lots of fun, the caliber of speakers and topics on this year’s agenda is the highest yet. So, if you’ve never been – or need an excuse to come back – you have it in an educational line-up intended to advance your career. Based on past feedback, we’re offering five different registration options to suit the geographical diversity of the membership and your busy schedules. You can join us for one, two or all three days. And no matter the choice, you’re sure to leave having added something new to your toolbox – maybe even a friend. Of course, this conference isn’t just for IAR members. We extend a warm welcome to our affiliated colleagues - anyone who helps make our transactions happen. Let staff know if you have questions or need help getting registered. In the meantime, I’ll be looking forward to seeing you in September.

Patricia Williams, 2011 IAR President

A New Perspective on Email - with Robby Slaughter No force in the modern workplace is more present or more daunting than email. Many business professionals remember a time before instantaneous electronic messaging, yet the hours we spend every day battling our inboxes make this memory seem impossible. 19th annual George F. Bloom Memorial Symposium

A program of the Real Estate Certification Program (RECP) The George F. Bloom Memorial Symposium is an executive education program for commercial real estate and finance professionals that was developed as both a tribute and to fill a void in the continuing education arena for these experienced practitioners. The annual Bloom Symposium not only presents valuable information that is difficult to find elsewhere, but also does it in a format that allows them to easily attain their CE over the course of two years. George was a senior faculty member and Chairman of the Real Estate Department at the Indiana University Kelley School of Business whose real estate and appraisal knowledge earned him great respect from his students and those in the local, state and even international business communities. He left a living legacy in the IUPUI campus, the downtown Indianapolis land for which he was instrumental in obtaining and clearing. Highlights from this year’s program include: • • • •

BPOs: The Agent’s Role in the Valuation Process - with Lynn Madison

With the changing real estate landscape and the increased use of broker price opinions (BPOs) by market participants, the need to provide a property evaluation has increased in recent years. Your sellers, your buyers and third-party companies in distressed property situations are requiring a higher level of market knowledge. From understanding how to choose appropriate comparables, to what affects value (and what does not) through making the adjustments needed to create the BPO or CMA , this new certification course, BPO Resource (BPOR), provides REALTORS® with knowledge and skills to reduce their risk and increase opportunities to create professional and accurate BPOs and CMAs. This course is required as one of three steps – in addition to being a NAR member in good standing - to earn the certification. At the conclusion of this course, you will be able to: • Prepare accurate and professional BPOs; • Evaluate market valuation tools for the most productive preparation of BPOs; and • Identify and weigh all significant factors influencing the creation of a useful valuation. Regardless of whether you pursue the BPOR certification, this course will give you the knowledge and skills to create professional and accurate BPOs, thereby reducing your risk and increasing opportunities. A test will be administered after the class for those pursuing the certification.
