n’s a m ir Cha ssage Me Dear Members, After the scorching summer heat and everyone back from their holidays, its back to the busy routine… It’s the same at the Club as the festive season has started and we have one great event lined up after another. We had a very successful Onam and Janmashtami celebration – we now look forward to the Eid celebrations, Navratri, Dassera, Karva Chauth, Diwali in the next 2 months. Sports are not being left behind with tournaments for Squash, the Annual Swimming Gala, Table Tennis and Badminton tournaments also lined up. The lift at the Ashoka Complex will be ready by November end as will be the new room for Aerobics, Karate, Zumba classes and a special Meditation room for relaxation. We will also be installing state-of-the-art turnstiles at the main reception area for better monitoring of members and guests visiting the Club.
Dear Members, Greetings of Peace! Festive Greetings to all ! A warm welcome to all our members after the gruelling summer break, though the temperature has dropped quite a bit now. Taking full advantage of this, our calendar at India Club is packed with activities and events in the upcoming month. Hence I take this opportunity to personally invite all our members, old and new, to attend graciously and make the most of it. Additionally, we are open to suggestions and ideas, so please do not hesitate to drop us a line and together we can make it 'a true haven: home away from home' for all. Till then, stay cool and stay blessed.
Mrs. Reena Kamlesh Hon. Vice Chairperson

ONAM ‘15 “Onam,” Kerala’s traditional harvest festival, is all about being happy and engaging in fun-filled activities. From wearing traditional attires, laying flower carpets (Pookalam), performing Thiruvathira dance, to having Onasadya (sumptuous vegetarian feast) – and this is what happens at India Club, year after year! The 2015 “Onam” was celebrated by India Club on Friday 4th September 2015. Celebrations began with the traditional pomp of King Mahabali being led in a procession by the Chenda Melam team enthralling the atmosphere with their spellbound drumbeats. Lighting of the traditional lamp was done by our Indian Consul General, Shri Anurag Bhushan along with the club Management Officials. Mr. Vashu Shroff, our Chairman, welcomed all the guests, wishing them and their families with the festive spirit and unity of Onam. To add to the pomp, the event was attended not only by members and their guests, but also the stars - Sabareesh and Krishnasankar from the popular Malayalam movie “Premam”. In association with Radio Me, RJ Pravitra and RJ Anoop - Crystal Music School dancers performed the traditional Onam dances and the live orchestra enthralled the attendees. To the delight of the guests and in the spirit of the occasion, Pansy, along with Mona and her team, enthusiastically decorated
Govinda Ala re! Janmashtami or the Dahi Handi festival is celebrated mostly in the month of August. This festival is based on an ancient legend about the Lord Krishna as a young child stealing butter. This festival is mainly popular in Mumbai and Maharashtra where Govindas by forming a pyramid try to break the Dahi Handi (Pot) which is tied at a height and is mostly filled with milk, butter and money. In fact India Club is the only Janmashtami Celebration anywhere in the Middle East and this year was the 8th consecutive year that India Club had organized the Dahi Handi. This year, there was a Musical dance drama about Rukhmini’s and Satyabhama’s love for Lord Krishna while Dance Avec by Nigel & Satyen had a full 40 minute dance sequence narrating the birth of Lord of Kirshna, his childhood and the Janmasthami celebrations. It gives me great pleasure to be associated with India Club for the Janmashtami celebrations since the start of this event to train our young Gopis and Govindas for the pyramid formation. The kind of hard work, hours of practice, spirit and the dedication of our young people to master the art of forming the three tier pyramid needs a special mention. The crowd participation for the event is also noteworthy. DJ Saby played some awesome Bollywood music which added spice to the event.

a part of the stage and club entrance floor with the traditional Oman flower carpet - Pookalam! Members and guests were treated to the lavish Onasadya! (a traditional vegetarian sumptuous meal served on banana leaf. From banana chips to two varieties of Payasam (dessert) and around 25 vegetarian delicacies). According to popular legend, the festival is celebrated to welcome King Mahabali, whose spirit is said to visit the South Indian state of Kerala at the time of Onam. Keralites make all efforts to celebrate Onam in the festive traditional manner. The women wear the traditional attire, white saree with golden borders, and men wear similar coloured shirt and mundu on Onam. Indeed a joy to be a part of this celebration and the club, and we look forward to joining in celebrating Onam next year – 2016!

The story narrated was “Eidgah” - it was about a little boy Hamid who kept the need of his grandmother ahead of his childhood desires. When all the kids were busy gleaning their little pleasures in the toys and sweets, this 5 year old boy, combating the mockery of his peers bought an unusual gift for his grandmother and ultimately became a hero amongst his friends circle. Children made beautiful cards and they lit up their creation of festive lanterns as a symbol of happiness and light. Munshi Premchand story session was held on 13th June ’15 & attended by 10 kids.

Cute Antics of Krishna
Whether it is the image of makhan chor kaanha, a prankster managing a cow herd, a handsome young lad dancing his way into the hearts of gopis or the preacher of Bhagwad Gita – the birth of one of the most loved and widely worshipped Indian Deities ‘KRISHNA’ was celebrated by Talekraft with the young clubbers in the most loving and warm manner . Telling stories and krafting little wonders of art is Talekraft’s way of celebrating the joys of life! That’s what we did for Janamashtami as well. The big hearts of young kids packed the creative corner with their enthusiasm. They didn’t mind over working their little hands to decorate a matki with Krishna’s flute and a symbolic peacock feather. The icing on the cake was the return present of Krishna’s birthday that the little kids got - vanilla ice cream aka white butter of 21st century digital generation. Janmashtami was held on 5th August ’15 & attended by 25 kids. 20 India Club

The Coffee Evening Ladies were treated to a very healthy Demo - Cooking with Recke Multicooker, on Saturday 19th September at the Crystal Lounge… buzzing with 41 Ladies, catching up after the long summer holidays. The concept of the event was cooking together. RECKE MultiCooker is like a personal Chef which can manage your time, set breakfast, lunch and dinner in advance with scheduled start function. It also notifies you when the meal is ready and keeps it warm and fresh. It is an all-in-one cooking appliance which can cook, fry with or without oil, steam, stew, boil, bake, slow cook and much more, there by replacing a lot of kitchen gadgets and de-cluttering the kitchen. The Ladies had a hands on experience, cooking and later tasting, Rice, Coconut Tofu Kheema and Cake. All the dishes were very tasty, the cake was not only tasty but also moist. The event ended with a round of housie and Lucky draw. Three lucky Ladies won Recke MultiCookers.

Food Distribution by India Club Volunteers
If you always give, you will always have. During the holy month of Ramadan, for the 4th consecutive year, India Club distributed 1000 meal packets to blue collar workers in Labour camps during Iftar time. This was done in association with the Community Development Authority (CDA). It was heartening to see the smile on the faces of these workers and we were glad that some of our members volunteered to help in the distribution of meals. A Free Medical camp was organized for the members on September 5, 2015. This was in association with the Aster Medical Clinic where a mobile van was sent across to the Club. Over 70 members availed the free checkup of Blood Sugar, BMI, BP and a free consultation with the GP.
For the 4th year running, India Club supported the 15 km Independence Day Run which took place on 15th August ’15.
Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something.
It's good to be blessed. It's better to be a blessing. We have added two prestigious Clubs to our ever expanding list of affiliations – the Cochin Club in Ernakulam and the Khar Gymkhana in Mumbai. Members can now avail the facilities at both these great institutions during their next visit to these cities. But if you are in town, we practically have one event lined up each week till the end of the year and we would be glad if you could join us for these…
