Thank you, India Club I am Aaditya Singh, a Grade 6 student at Delhi Private School Sharjah. My parents (Veenu & Ajay Singh) have had the family membership (No. 2967) of India Club. I am writing today to thank the management of the India Club and you as well, for the wonderful platform that the club provides to us children. Earlier this year, I have won the prestigious Sheikh Hamdan Award, a government recognition that rewards students for their all round performanceacademic excellence in addition to achievements in co curricular activities. While my parents and my school have always supported me in my endeavors, I want to acknowledge the role of India Club in my development as an all rounder. I have benefitted greatly from the excellent facilities at the club. Sports, Contests, Camps, Workshops and special programs for children, Cultural/festival celebrations, charity, environmental/volunteering drives and patriotic functions at the club - have all helped me to sharpen my skills and boost my confidence. So please accept sincere thanks and regards from me and my parents.

Best Letter It was a great moment for me to receive the award from His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. In an effort to give back to the society, I have used the AED 20,000/- cash prize that I got with the award, towards helping those in need. My family supports a children’s home in New Delhi. I contributed towards that institute. Furthermore I helped a Breast Cancer patient with half of my cash prize. I was also instrumental in organizing a table tennis tournament to help raise more funds for the lady. I had won two air tickets to India as a prize in the Protect your mom Breast Cancer Awareness Contest, two years ago. I had used these tickets to help a Cancer patient fly to India for her treatment.

Diwali Nite @ India Club With Udit Narayan

Janmashtami Celebrations at India Club

India Club 50th Anniversary Coffee Table Book

India club arranged a concert by Udit Narayan on the 30th of October 2014, to celebrate Diwali. The evening with Udit Narayan, a Nepali play back singer, was an entertaining experience for the generation that follwed his Bollywood hit numbers, during the eighties and nineties. His voice was as fresh and alive as it used to be thirty years ago. He took the audience through a journey of his memorable and popular songs like papa kehte hain bada naam kare gaa, Pehla nasha, etc. Also appearing on stage with him was his wife Deepa Narayan. Some of the members used the occasion to step on the floor and dance to their heart's content. It was certainly a good way to celebrate yet another Diwali night in India Club.

My brother and I were glad to be a part of the Janmashtami squad of the India Club. We have been a part of this since 4 years climbing all the way up to break the matka. This act is performed by taking all sorts of precautions for the children climbing and the people beneath. It is obvious that we are terrified but because of the support given by our team mates and all the people involved we are able to achieve this.

I have received the magnificent book, "Striving Ahead". I feel grateful. The book is beautiful from beginning to end.

felt that the Club needed its own building and requested the Ruler His Royal Highness Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, who generously allotted to us the land where we slowly began the construction. The building was later upgraded to suit the requirements of additional activities. In the year 1974 it was decided to change the name to India Club. How is it different today from when it began? As Dubai and the UAE started changing since its formation in 1971, India Club also began upgrading its infrastructure to suit the needs of the fast evolving sports and social life. Here I must say that each and every Chairman has played an important role in the development of the Club, which has also received the ISO 9001:2008 & 14001: 2004 certifications.

The man of all seasons! Popularly known as Maghaba, this exemplary gentleman has earned the respect, admiration and affection of many generations of people. Maghanmal Pancholia, the doyen of the Indian business community in Dubai, celebrated his 90th birthday recently and to mark this joyous occasion, the India Club hosted a party in his honour, which was attended by many luminaries from Dubai’s corporate world as well as family members and friends of the illustrious community leader. Maghaba, who has lived in Dubai since 1942, was one of the founding trustees of India Club and has a treasure trove of memories and thoughts, some of which he shared with us. Here are a few excerpts: How long have you been associated with the India Club? I am the Founding Trustee of India Club, hence have been associated with it since the trust was formed. How did the association begin? A few sports-oriented youngsters started playing indoor games together and they rented some rooms around 1960 for this purpose. This is how the formation process of the Club began. What was the motivation behind the inception of India Club? As the number of players increased, we formed a formal Indian Sports Club in 1964. It was then realised that apart from sports and leisure activities, the Club could also provide social and networking opportunities for the Indian community. So the Club started adding more and more activities which resulted in the increase in the membership. We then

Many more Happy Returns of the Day! 10 India Club

Do you think the Club has achieved all the goals that were set in the beginning? I think it has achieved most of its objects and goals set at the beginning and every new Chairman has added and altered the perspective to suit new ideas and ideals. Apart from this, India Club has received Dubai Quality Appreciation Programme Award 2008 in the tourism sector from His Royal Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai and Prime Minister of the UAE. India Club has played host to numerous dignitaries who have appreciated the harmonious relations created by the Club between India and the UAE. And according to me, the special thing about India Club is that it is operating on a non-profit basis. How is the Dubai of today different from the old Dubai when you first came here? There is a vast difference between the Dubai of 1942, when I arrived and the Dubai of today. At that time, Dubai was a small village with a population of about 5000 and without many modern amenities. The present Dubai can challenge any of the world class cities in terms of business, leisure, sports, travel, infrastructure, hospitality, healthcare, technology, etc. thanks to the vision of its Rulers. You celebrated your 90th birthday recently. How do you feel and are there any dreams unfulfilled so far? I celebrated my 90th birthday recently and with the grace of God, I lead a healthy and active life. I have tried to fulfill my dreams in a small way, providing educational, medical, sports and other social facilities, by creating institutions in India and in Dubai and I shall continue to do so till I am alive and healthy.

One of the most important Festivals observed by Hindu women - KARVA CHAUTH was organized by India Club on the 11th October. On this sacred occasion, the women begin their day by taking the traditional sargi before sunrise and fast for the rest of the day until moonrise, praying for the safety and longevity of their husbands. It is a day to pamper herself and be pampered by her husband. In the evening they perform Pooja and pray for well being and prosperity of their Husband. For the past few years, many husbands have started observing the fast along with their wives for their well-being. How romantic! In India Club, all the ladies started the pooja right in time and the event went off very well. After the Pooja, the gorgeously dressed ladies participated in the Best Dressed, Best Henna decoration and Best Hair Style competition. The winners received attractive prizes.

All for a happy family

On their way out, all the ladies received a gift hamper, containing items from various sponsors. Let such inspiring traditions continue to add flavour to the marital bliss.

Story Telling For Kids

On 18th September, India Club kids went on an adventurous journey to a forest along with the herd of grey elephants and one unusual one. This unusual elephant exposed the kids to the concept of a beautiful patchwork! The kids used colours to decorate their own patchwork on the elephant template. The concept of patchwork was reinforced when they applied it in their actual real time colouring. Stories are indeed a great way to communicate new concepts and reinforce the old ones. The story was of ELMER, written by David Mckee and narrated by Pragti Rathore .

On the Jungle ride‌

It is a wonderful book which enables the kids to appreciate and celebrate their own peculiarities and differences. The surprising end given by the author to this book is a wonderful tribute to the celebration of individuality and the power of humour. It would be a wonderful thing if the parents can lay their hands on the copy of Elmer and discuss further with their kids.

Baap re Baap In the genre of comic drama that shakes up old-age stigmas and taboos, came yet another play by Naveen Bawa – Baap Re Baap. An edgy, thrilling, satirical and emotionally charged love story intertwined with musical outbursts of these lovable characters.

It displayed an emotional relationship involving AWAN (Asrani), a doting father who raises his son BACHA (Naveen Bawa) single handedly, a young NRI girl, NAMKEEN (Chitrashi Rawat) and a widow MITHAI (Padmini Kolhapure). Satisfaction lies in the effort, not in the attainment, full effort is full victory. - Mahatma Gandhi As 2014 draws to a close, it is hard to believe how quickly the year has just whizzed by…The last quarter of the year is always the most busy period for us at the Club with a plethora of festive activities, practically one every week, keeping us on our toes 24/7; but apart from the social and sports activities, we have been very active with our CSR activities.

BurJuman Pink Walkathon ‘14 The ultimate value of life depends upon awareness and the power of contemplation rather than upon mere survival. - Aristotle For the 5th consecutive year, the Club participated in the BurJuman Pink Walkathon at the Zabeel Park. The 3 km walk held on October 31, 2014 titled the Safe & Sound Campaign is one of the region’s most extensive Breast Cancer Awareness program. The Club had organized a Dhol player to perform while walking with the members to add to the lively ambience. The event was supported with the participation of over 50 members.

Bharat Chachara General Manager

You have to grow from the inside out. None can teach you, none can make you spiritual. There is no other teacher but your own soul. - Swami Vivekananda We have tied up with the Raja Yoga Centre to conduct meditation classes every Wednesday from 6.30pm to 7.30pm for our members. The classes are free of charge and the response since starting the classes in the last one month has been very encouraging.

Flag Day was celebrated with the hoisting of the UAE National Flag by the Chairman, Dr. Ram Buxani in the presence of over 40 members and guests. November 3, marks the day HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan became the UAE President and the Flag Day initiative was started on that date last year by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai. India Club has also been marking this day to commemorate the occasion.
