The system enables online and blended learning and enhances the user’s professional learning experience through a system that is flexible and best suited to members’ needs.

Communities Aspiring Principals Program 2016-2017 Community code: Aspiring-Principals-2016 This community is to engage, provide resources and networking opportunities for participants in the Aspiring Principals Program. This is a two year program designed to increase the skills and capabilities of high quality candidates who aspire to become school principals. The program is highly tailored. While there are core components of the program, much of the learning is designed around participants needs and identified areas for growth. Participants will be paired with a mentor who will help with advice and practical application to real-life problem solving. Beginning Teachers Community code: Beginning-Teachers-2016 This collaborative community is designed to assist beginning teachers and those who support them. Building Assessment Communities Community code: Building-Assess-Communities-2016 Building Assessment Communities provides opportunities for teachers and school leaders to explore best practice in assessment, with particular focus on alignment with the Australian Curriculum. The community offers a space to locate assessment resources, engage in professional discussions and discover information about upcoming professional events and online workshops. ‘Building Assessment Communities’ aims to build professional capacity with assessment practices, foster collegial partnerships and support professional practice in schools. Coaching Partnerships for Professional Learning Community code: Coaching-2016 This community provides access to current research and resources about coaching, as well as keeping members informed of news pertaining to coaching, including professional learning opportunities. It also provides the opportunity for coaches to share individual and collective stories and journeys. Curriculum – Implementation and Innovation Community code: Curriculum-innovation-2016 This community provides access to information, resources and innovative approaches to support curriculum implementation in Queensland independent schools for Prep–Year 10. Opportunities are also provided for member school personnel to contribute ideas, challenges and responses to the process being undertaken to change elements of the curriculum and assessment practices in Years 11-12. ESL Community code: ESL-2016 This community will assist and support mainstream classroom teachers to meet the learning needs of the ESL students in their classrooms. The community will include links to references and resources and will share updates. The community will assist teachers to support ESL students in areas of pedagogy, curriculum and assessment. Teachers will be able to engage in professional discussion about their ESL learners in a collaborative space. Great Teachers in Independent Schools: Mentoring Community code: Mentoring-2016 This collaborative community is designed to guide school leaders and mentors to embed sustainable professional mentoring practices in a school. The activities are interactive and guide the embedding of mentoring practices to assist teachers at any career stage to set professional growth learning goals and plans. Internationalisation and Global Citizenship Community code: Internationalisation-2016 This community provides an opportunity for schools to build a community of practice in the areas of internationalisation of schooling. Increasingly, schools are expected to educate ‘global citizens’ and this community aims to assist schools to ‘walk the walk’ – to respond to a range of policy drivers by taking a strategic approach using research and targeted resources, to develop integrated and sustainable international programs, and achieve demonstrable student outcomes. Languages Community code: Languages-2016 The languages community is a place to share resources about languages and culture with other teachers. It incorporates a discussion forum for teachers to pose questions and debate issues with each other and a news feature for finding out what is happening in languages education around the state and on a national level. Participants are also welcome to access research about languages education in the languages community. Leadership Development Community code: Leadership-Development-2016 This community is a space to support projects for school leaders and aspiring leaders. It is a place to share leadership and development information and ideas. Information and resources from principals’ briefing sessions and Leading Professional Learning workshops can be accessed through this community. Traditionally it contains updates for future events of interest to school leaders and links to performance and development support materials. Literacy and Numeracy Instruction Community code: Literacy-and-Numeracy-2016 This community provides access to current research and resources for literacy and numeracy instruction, as well as keeping members informed of news pertaining to literacy and numeracy events, including professional learning opportunities. Professional Growth Service Community code: Professional-Growth-Service-2016 This community will provide school leaders with advice and resources to support them to mentor Highly Accomplished and Lead teachers. It also aims to provide Highly Accomplished and Lead teachers with assistance to evidence their high quality practice. The community will build the capacity of school leaders to activate the potential of these teachers and appropriately acknowledge these career stages. School Marketing and Communications Community code: Schools-Marketing-Comms-2016 This community provides a forum for all staff responsible for marketing and communications within their school. In many cases, especially in small schools, these staff are not marketing professionals and perform this role in conjunction with many other duties. This community provides a discussion forum for key issues and allows sharing of valuable resources, knowledge and experience, covering the areas of marketing, advertising, media relations, social media platforms, school open days, websites, newsletters and communication programs. Supervising Pre-Service Teachers Community code: Supervise-Preservice-Tchr-2016 This community aims to provide and share resources, activities and ideas to assist teachers to provide quality practicum experiences for pre-service teachers. Within this space collegial discussions and self-paced learning activities provide support and guidance to build highly effective and productive relationships between schools, pre-service teachers, universities and supervising teachers. Courses Action Research Course code: Action-Research-2016 This course leads participants through the action research process and supports the development and implementation of a complete action research project. It can be used in conjunction with other professional learning activities on action research offered in Research in Schools projects, or undertaken independently of these additional activities by participants outside of the Research in Schools program. Building Professional Capacity in Delivering Quality Assessment Course code: Building-Effective-Assessment-2016 The modules are for use by teaching teams as self-paced, facilitated conversations in school-based professional learning sessions. Teams will explore current research & practices in assessment, and build common language and continuity of understanding around various aspects of assessment through the lens of the Australian Curriculum. Child Protection Course code: Child-Protection-2016 Effective protection of children relies on timely identification and reporting about concerns of harm from all school staff. This course will assist all staff to understand their legal requirements and reporting under current child protection legislative requirements. Reading, Writing and Numeracy Series The Reading, Writing and Numeracy instructional series have been developed to provide a blended suite of professional learning opportunities for practitioners, including an online course, face to face workshops and virtual sessions. Participants must complete Modules 1 and 2 of the online instructional course located in Connect & Learn as a requirement for participation in the first face to face workshop. These events are available to all practitioners in independent schools and participation in an ISQ project is not a prerequisite for registration.
