NYC Mission Society

New York City Mission Society’s Junior Society hosted holiday cocktails to benefit their annual holiday toy drive at Pilotage Fun & Hobby on December 3. Comprised of young professionals in the New York City area, the Junior Society supports the mission, vision, and values of New York City Mission Society through hands-on outreach, innovative networking and unique fundraising opportunities. As the next generation of philanthropists, with a roster including Melissa Berkelhammer, Brooke Laing, Antonella Lemos, Cole Rumbough, and Liz Shafiroff, they support the New York City Mission Society’s goal of improving the lives of children, youth, and families in the city’s most underserved communities. Deeply devoted to the cause, Jean Shafiroff will serve as the honoree for their upcoming benefit gala on March 12.   With the toy drive event, this year sponsored in part by MarieBelle New York, Baked by Melissa, Insomnia Cookies, Bonito Mezcal, and Früzen Ice, guests had the opportunity to support the toy drive while holiday shopping. Twenty percent of each purchase made was donated to New York City Mission Society. Joining the Junior Society in support of their annual toy drive were Martin Shafiroff, Roy Kean, Maggie Norris, Stanley and Leah Rumbough, and many more. Guests dressed in festive seasonal attire, enjoyed holiday cocktails, cookies, chocolate, and cupcakes, while shopping and playing with the many interactive toys by Pilotage, ranging from electronic helicopters, airplanes, and cars. Serving both fun-seekers and enthusiasts across New York, Pilotage Fun & Hobby provides clients with a wide selection of affordable and enjoyable radio control model airplanes, helicopters, cars and boats, games and gadgets. The NYC Mission Society will be accepting donations throughout the entire holiday season. They can be made online at www.nycharities.org.

contact Wendy at 631-537-3682. Holiday Giving Programs As we enter into the holiday season, The Retreat has announced the agency’s annual Holiday Giving Programs. In the true spirit of the season, The Retreat asks supporters to join together in brightening the holiday experience of courageous families affected by domestic violence. During the holiday season, an increasing amount of families seek out The Retreat’s services. Many women and children find that during the holidays, domestic violence increases due to money problems, and increasing amounts of alcohol and drug use.   The most peaceful time of year, sadly, can be the hardest. In an effort to infuse light into some of the dark realities these families have to face, The Retreat is looking for help in providing sur vivor families with a joyful holiday experience during Thanksgiving and the December holidays. Supporters can consider offering support to The Retreat’s annual Adopt-A-Family Program by donating holiday presents or gift cards for a

family in need. Call The Retreat’s Holiday Help Line at 631-329-4398 and ask for Christiana or Lisa, to learn more about becoming involved in brightening the holiday season for survivors of domestic violence. Miss Ella’s Shop for a cause. Fridays to Sunday from noon to 4 PM Miss Ella’s Holiday Shop at Hallockville will have local handcrafted gifts, jewelry, woodcarvings, antiques, collectibles, ornaments, cards and seasonal items, plus educational toys

and games for children. All proceeds benefit the not-for-profit mission of Hallockville Museum Farm, support the preser vation of 19 historic structures dating back to 1765 across 28 acres of preserved farmland. Located on Sound Avenue in Riverhead, Hallockville is home to cows and sheep, and offers educational programming that connects the community to the shared agricultural heritage throughout the year. Of course, Pitt, a legitimate heartthrob was already known as a lady’s man, having been in a serious relationship with Gwyneth Paltrow before he met Aniston. Brad Pitt is more than a pretty face – he is an acclaimed actor who by all accounts is getting better and better. He’s been nominated for two Academy Awards in the past four years. Pitt was born in Oklahoma and has some Native American ancestors. He went to high school in Missouri and was an avid athlete and a member of the debate team. He moved to Los Angeles to study acting and landed a small, uncredited role in No Way Out. He appeared on some soap operas, and appeared on several TV shows including “Growing Pains.” His breakout film role was as the hitchhiker in Thelma & Louise. From there on Pitt was one of Hollywood’s highest paid actors. It didn’t hurt that he was voted People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive not once but twice. In 2005 he fell madly in love with actress Angelina Jolie and their romance made international headlines. They’ve been together ever since. Pitt was nominated for Best Actor for his portrayal of Billy Beane in Moneyball. He is receiving mention for another nomination this year for his role in 12 Years A Slave.
