Vandals struck the Michie Park and Michie Elementary School on Oct. 6. causing more than $1,000 worth of damage in attacks on two separate buildings. Amazingly, the method of attack in this case may bear similarities to an attack in 455 A.D. when Vandals sacked Rome. Evidence at the scene points to the possibility that the Michie Vandals sacked the town on horseback. Inv. Robert Hitchborn of the McNairy County Sheriff’s Department said that manure was found not far from the site of the attack on the Michie school, however he said that a witness also reported seeing a vehicle

Young actors rehearse Washington Irving’s classic Play “Sleepy Hollow last Monday at the Latta Visitor’s and Cultural Center in preparation for this weekend’s opening show. Houston Robinson (Brom Bones) drops a frog down the back of Ana Grace Ashe (Katrina Van Tassel).
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, a Washington Irving short story, sponsored by the Independent Appeal is a Youth Production of Arts in McNairy and will be performed this Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Latta building in Selmer. The Classic American tale is about a schoolmaster, Ichabod Crane, who makes his way home through Sleepy Hollow’s scary forest. The gossipy, prank-playing townsmen are eventually won over by Crane with his genteel manners and hymn singing. “It’s really fun,” said Actor Dakota Blevins, playing the part of Ichabod. “We have a lot of bloopers.” The townsmen soon turn on Crane while he gains the interest of the town belle, Katrina Van Tassel. “It’s hilarious,” said Actress Anna Grace Ashe, playing the part of Katrina. “I like that I get to shove a cookie in his face.” “The horse chase is definitely a part that sticks out,” said Blevins. The Headless Horseman chases him through the forest and alters his fate in marrying the town belle. This young cast is excited about the upcoming Halloween tale and it’s got the community interest as well. “There are so many people to recognize,” said Director Joanna Pitts. “We are thrilled with the community response and the willingness so many people to volunteer. I’ve had volunteers for the backdrop and the costumes and all the kids have done a fabulous job and working hard. It’s been great.” Ashe said she has told everyone about the upcoming play and Blevins assumes ev-
