“People often say that your time in college is the best 4 years of their life. Personally, nothing can compare to the 4 years I spent at IMG Academy. Leaving home at the age of 14, I had no idea what to expect. Now, as I look back on that day in 2005, I have 100% confidence in saying it was the best decision of my life. IMG Academy allowed me to expand my horizons, helped me work towards my goal of playing baseball at a higher level and it provided me with friendships from all over the world that will last a lifetime. I am proud to say I am an IMG Academy alumnus and I have all the confidence in knowing that IMG Academy shaped me into the person I am today. What if a student-athlete gets injured?

IMG Academy Admissions Office 5500 34th Street West, Bradenton, FL 34210

What does IMG Academy look for in a student-athlete?

How good do I have to be at my sport?

IMG Academy looks for student-athletes who have a strong commitment to academics, athletics and personal growth. Studentathletes must be diligent in their school, sport and community duties, with a willingness to give their all in each area.

While each IMG Academy sport has different qualifications for participation, all of our sport programs share a common denominator in that athletic performance is not the determining factor in acceptance. Most importantly, all prospective student-athletes are required to have a passion for their sport and a motivation to reach their full potential.

If an injury occurs that keeps a studentathlete away from normal training and participation, they are placed into the Injured Athlete Program (IAP). IAP places the injured student-athlete into the Athletic and Personal Development program, which will allow them to seamlessly transition back into their sport after rehabilitation and receiving a medical release for participation.

How do I apply?

When is the application deadline? There are various deadlines. Please refer to the dates listed on the application or contact us at or 941-752-2569.

What is the Admissions process? All prospective student-athletes must submit a completed application, including academic records and recommendations. Also, we strongly encourage all prospective families to schedule a visit of the campus through the Student-Athlete Advisor of their respective sport program. The visit might include a class shadow experience and meetings with Admissions staff, coaches and faculty.

What is the minimum age? It varies by sport: Baseball (age 12), Basketball (13), Football (14), Golf (8 for non-boarding, 12 for boarding), Lacrosse (14), Soccer (12), Tennis (8 for nonboarding, 12 for boarding), Track & Field (13)

What is the quality of IMG Academy’s academics? Our track record speaks for itself. Recent student-athletes have been named Scholastic All-Americans and recent graduates have gone on to and succeeded at some of the most demanding institutions in the nation, including Brown, Duke, Harvard, Stanford and Yale to name just a few. Not coincidentally, many of these student-athletes attribute their ability to balance athletics and academics to what they learned at IMG Academy.

What are my chances of getting a college scholarship after attending IMG Academy? Nobody is guaranteed a college scholarship when they come to IMG Academy, but we will provide every opportunity possible to help you earn one. 57% of IMG Academy studentathletes in the past five graduating classes received athletic scholarships to compete in college. The opportunity for a scholarship is strong with the right amount of commitment and dedication. While much of the responsibility is on the student-athlete to perform to the best of their ability in their sport and in the classroom, we will provide all of the tools necessary to help you attain a scholarship, including a dedicated College Planning and Placement Center staff.

How does the academic/ athletic schedule work? IMG Academy utilizes a college-style A/B schedule that involves school in the morning and sport training in the afternoon or vice versa, depending on sport and individual schedule. This allows for an ideal environment that enhances improvement in all aspects of education and athletics.

How do I keep up with schoolwork if I’m traveling for my sport? We realize that IMG Academy is very unique in that many of our student-athletes travel frequently for competitions. However, the education requirements for student-athletes do not stop when they travel, as the balance is part of their preparation for collegiate life. Every student-athlete, parent and teacher has access to an online communication program where homework is assigned and monitored. All involved parties can communicate and plan through this system. Extra help with teachers is also available to student-athletes upon their return. If a team is scheduled to travel for more than five days, a teacher travels with the team to ensure that schoolwork is being completed.

How do you accommodate international students? Because of our strong international student-athlete base, we offer a variety of support programs to help those who need to better their English language speaking and writing proficiency. Our faculty also consists of teachers who collectively speak 13 languages. For more information, see page 18. IMG ACADEMY / ADMISSIONS GUIDE

class breakdown !

The English Department has three areas of focus: literary analysis and critical thinking; formal writing, with emphasis on literary analysis essays and research-based writing; and grammar, mechanics, and vocabulary building. The overarching goal of the English Department is to develop students into stronger writers and thinkers in preparation for college. In middle school, teachers will introduce students to a variety of texts, genres, styles, and writing opportunities to teach literary analysis and formal writing skills in preparation for upper school.

The mission of the Mathematics Department is to prepare our unique population of student-athletes for success in college mathematics and future real-world applications of mathematics. The middle school program is guided by the Saxon series and utilizes a spiral approach in developing mathematical and scientific thought.

In high school, students go more indepth with the four overarching literary genres: poetry, the novel, the short story, and the play. Further, students will prepare more rigorously for writing at the college level. Students will read, analyze, and write about a variety of texts across cultures, time periods, and genres.

The high school program is a traditional series beginning with Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. These courses are designed for all students of all abilities and are the principal courses needed to meet the four math credit requirement for graduation. Students then expand and develop deeper mathematical thinking. In all courses, the focus of the Math Department is to develop, strengthen, and expand skills that encourage conceptual, abstract, and critical thinking in mathematics.

The focus of the IMG Academy curriculum is to develop critical thinking skills and capacities through the study of traditional subject area material. The school’s college preparatory curriculum prepares its student-athletes to successfully manage the rigorous schedule of scholarly and athletic demands of university life.

department The Science Department strives to provide a current foundation in the elements of a scientific method, theory, applicability, and laboratory practice that will encourage the student to acquire an in-depth appreciation of the scientific enterprise. We explore the key role of science in human endeavor and practice a problem-solving, hands-on approach that allows the IMG Academy student to observe, analyze, and apply solutions to the personal experience and progression to the global community.

social studies

department The Social Studies curriculum offers core history subjects for grades six through twelve. Some of the major learning skills that students will encounter in their coursework are critical thinking, primary/secondary source analysis, problem solving, writing skills development, cause-and-effect relationships, synthesizing information, mapping skills, technology integration, researching, and oral/written projects. Students will relate the concepts and material presented to the world we live in and target examples in everyday life.

foreign language department

Consisting of Spanish, French and Mandarin, the Foreign Language Department emphasizes the teaching of language, literature, and culture of the subject area. Teachers are dedicated to increasing students’ oral and written fluency to enable them to interact with native speakers and to continue language learning beyond the classroom. Students are engaged through a wide variety of instructional resources and critical thinking activities that develop their ability to thrive in multicultural settings. The Foreign Language teachers adhere to the 2011 Florida Next Generation World Language Standards for lesson planning and assess students using the four language benchmarks of speaking, reading, writing, and listening.

Teachers incorporate elements into their lessons from a variety of teaching techniques, including the Socratic Method, the Harkness Method, and the “flipped classroom”, all proven methods of promoting the development of critical thinking skills.

department The Art Department is composed of three full-time art instructors and a rotating artist workshop series. Middle School Art is offered as an elective. High School Art is divided into four areas of study: drawing, design, painting, and printmaking. Both Middle School and High School Art courses are studio-intensive and encourage technical skill development, including two-dimensional applications such as painting, drawing, design, and printmaking. To expand its offerings and exposure to three-dimensional art, the Art department hosts four to five artist run workshops throughout the year. Past workshops included glass-working, jewelry-making, wheel-throwing, and welding. Additionally, guest lecturers, photographers, graphic illustrators, and fashion designers, are routinely invited to speak about their work.

international students

IMG Academy is truly a global environment that attracts student-athletes from around the world – all looking to reach their true potential. Last year alone, athletes from more than 80 countries trained and studied at IMG Academy. To ease their transition and prepare them for the next step in life, IMG Academy’s Intensive English Programs help non-native English speakers reach the same level of English-language proficiency as native speakers. International students have several options, depending on English proficiency and grade.

frequently asked questions

How many international students attend IMG Academy? Over half of our students come from international backgrounds. Our student-athletes experience different cultures and become friends with others from around the globe. If you are uncomfortable speaking English, you will find that many IMG Academy faculty and staff members are multi-lingual.

Do I need to speak English fluently in order to be accepted? International student-athletes do not need to speak English fluently unless applying to grades 11 or 12. However, we do expect students to have a basic proficiency level in order to participate in the classroom, particularly in high school. English ability will not affect your acceptance, but IMG Academy reserves the right to mandate Intensive English instruction before beginning the college preparatory program.

Are TOEFL results required in my application? TOEFL, IELTS or Cambridge results are required for application to grades 11 or 12. For all other grades, these scores are not required for admission to IMG Academy. If you do have TOEFL results or other English exam results, you are welcome to submit them with your application.

If I’m in a specific grade in my home country, will I be in that grade at IMG Academy? Perhaps. All non-U.S. school records will be evaluated by an independent company that specializes in international academic credentials. Since the U.S. education system is credit-based, this evaluation will identify your current number of high school credits, which will help us determine how many more credits you will need in order to graduate from IMG Academy.

Do I need a student visa? Most academic programs at IMG Academy are considered full-time study by the U.S. government. If you are not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, you will need to obtain a student (F-1) visa or check the status of your current visa. Certain categories of visa holders are eligible to enroll, as well as certain dependents (spouse or children) of visa holders.

How do I get a student visa? After completing our application and enrollment processes, IMG Academy will provide you with the documents needed to present at the Embassy. It is up to you to make an appointment and appear for an interview. Please allow several weeks for the Embassy process. We are always happy to provide guidance and basic instructions; however, we are unable to provide legal advice or assist with change of visa status requests. We take pride in helping our students have as comfortable a visa application process as possible. International Advisors are available to answer your questions or concerns.

Are children able to sponsor their parents’ visa? Parents of a student are not able to use their child’s visa to enter the U.S. Parents must enter on a tourist visa, the Visa Waiver Program or enroll in their own academic program. For more information, contact Aga Cram at, 941-739-7377.

The IMG Academy’s College Planning and Placement Center (CPPC) works with all IMG Academy student-athletes and families to create an individualized roadmap for reaching their goal of studying and playing their sport at the collegiate level. This work begins when a student enters high school (grade 9) and incorporates families, coaches, and both university admission and athletic staff in our efforts.

college planning and placement NCAA Compliance Education

SAT Prep

We work with students in grades 9 and 10 in group settings. Students in grades 11 and 12 receive both individual counseling and specifically designed group meetings throughout the year.

The CPPC works to educate each student, family, coach, and staff member with the nuances of NCAA eligibility. The NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) is made up of college and university member institutions which develop and implement rules and regulations to determine participation and protect fairness in every sport. Our staff offers educational workshops, monitors academic certification, tracks recruitment activities, and oversees amateurism issues so that students, parents, and college coaches can have full confidence that an IMG Academy graduate will have a complete understanding of the rules in place that govern their eligibility to play at the next level.

IMG Academy students take a yearlong, 40-hour SAT preparatory course that begins in the spring semester of their sophomore year and continues through the end of the fall semester of their junior years. The course is scheduled to coincide with the optimal timing for students to begin preparing for the test and also complete their preparation when they are expected to begin taking the SAT. Preparation includes critical strategies, test-taking tips, topic-specific lessons and online prep courses.

Athletic Recruiting Using the expertise of each our selected college athletic recruiting liaisons and supported by the IMG Academy Recruiting Portal, we connect our student-athletes with numerous university and college coaches using a variety of technology, campus-based events, and international competitions. Each sport at IMG Academy has at least one college athletic recruiting liaison. These liaisons will help the college advisors to guide students through the recruitment components of the overall college selection process. We ask all students and parents to take an active role in the recruiting process.

honors Dedicated Honors classes are available for several courses for students who have demonstrated above average motivation, determination and academic success. In order to be eligible for an Honors class, students should have earned a B+ or better in their previous subject area course and received approval from the administration. If a particular Honors class does not fit within the demands of a student’s schedule, IMG Academy also offers individual Honors contracts, which require students to complete additional assignments, take more challenging and additional assessments, and meet outside of regular class hours.

placement IMG Academy participates in the College Board’s Advanced Placement Program. Nearly a dozen AP courses are offered to students who are motivated and capable of succeeding in college-level courses as indicated by earning A grades in the previous years’ coursework. Other criteria must also be met, including receiving instructor permission. Upon entry into an AP class, students and parents sign a contract obligating the student to maintain certain grades and to meet certain levels of classroom participation and effort. Advanced Placement weight and transcript designation will not appear until completion of the course AP exam. If a student does not sit for the AP exam, the course will be designated as an Honor-level course and receive the associated Honors GPA weight.

learning resource center

The Learning Resource Center (LRC) program is designed to help students develop academic skills and strategies, while also receiving help on content area work that they are completing for their classes. Students can access the LRC if they are struggling academically or if they have an identified learning difference. The LRC faculty is trained in specific content areas so that students are able to utilize the strengths of the teachers, without having to leave the department when they come for class, academic advising or evening directed learning. Many students in the LRC are assigned a block during their academic day to receive assistance. The focus teachers work on executive functioning skills (planning and prioritizing, organization, and time management), as well as content area skills and strategies during this time (which typically lasts about 15 minutes per block). The rest

of the time is individualized to the particular need of the student and the work that they are currently completing. The faculty will also help with homework completion, preparing for assessments and learning how to manage long term projects. Parents of students enrolled in the LRC will receive communication every two weeks from the focus teacher outlining the progress the student is making in the student’s content area classes, along with what skills and strategies are being developed. Focus teachers also communicate with content area teachers and, when appropriate, dorm mentors, coaches, college planning and placement, and other key adults that the student interacts with on campus.

tutoring Private tutoring is available for any high school subject in addition to SAT, ACT, or SAT II subject tests. At IMG Academy, we accommodate students’ requests for tutoring

in a timely fashion and provide tutors who not only know their subjects, but also relate well to the student. Individual sessions are available weekday, evenings, and weekends.

post-graduate The IMG Academy Post-Graduate Program provides an exciting opportunity for motivated studentathletes to broaden their college options by spending a “gap” year on our dynamic campus to enhance their academic profile, develop their athletic skills, and gain the confidence, maturity, and tools that will make college success a reality. At IMG Academy, our Post-Graduate student-athletes take a rigorous load of academic classes while participating in one of our sport programs, with SAT/ACT prep courses also available. Student-athletes have two options when going the Post-Graduate route:

High school

College courses

(and other high school senior-level courses)

This post-graduate option includes several college courses offered on our campus and taught by professors from the University of South Florida. Courses are designed to transfer and satisfy requirements at most colleges and universities.

Advanced placement courses

This post-graduate option strengthens an already strong transcript or helps redeem grades with which a student is unhappy. This option is traditionally chosen by postgraduates who want to attend an elite academic university.

community outreach IMG Academy instills in students the importance of social responsibility. All IMG Academy student-athletes will be required to commit a set number of hours each academic year to community outreach.

Student-athletes are encouraged to explore ways that they can also give back. In past years, student-initiated outreach efforts have included raising money for Free the Children (builds schools for children in India) and building houses for Habitat for Humanity.

& social atmosphere IMG Academy’s boarding philosophy is built around three central tenants: personal, social and academic growth. Between the web of House Parents, coaches, teachers, administrators and other adult members of the IMG Academy community, your student-athlete will never have so many people trying to help them to succeed.

We focus on life skills, peer-to-peer interactions, health, wellness and leadership. With a sense of structured independence, we want to let students take ownership of their life here from simple tasks like getting up in the morning to the more complex like the best ways to make use of their time. While they are making these independent choices, a team of adults is there to provide structure and ensure that students have the support they need to make the right decisions.

Our House Parents work with students on time-management and organization, cultivating good study habits and working with our Learning Resource Center and school in making sure a student has the proper academic support and tutoring they may need.

student activities We take advantage of our premier location to provide students with access to first-class activities on- and off-campus. Whether it is a beach trip or a visit to the Magic Kingdom at Disney World, we strive to let our students see everything this area has to offer. On-campus options are plentiful and range from daily choices like relaxing by the pool, playing video games in the student lounge or cheering for fellow student-athletes in other sports to “special events” like “Welcome Back” parties, holiday celebrations, Homecoming, Prom and more.

social growth

Through self-advocacy, being a positive member of a community and positive peer-to-peer/adult interaction, we help student-athletes become better prepared for college. A key component of this is having our House Parents help students see the best way to work through issues whether they are with roommates, on the practice field or in the classroom.

The various projects in which an ambassador may help range from being a member for a panel discussion during open house weekends to acting as a liaison for campers during their stay.

The Student Government is a student input group for activities, programs and new ideas for extra-curricular involvement. Students will meet once a week and may discuss any aspect of life within IMG Academy’s community. This group will be expected to make recommendations to IMG Academy’s Administration.

Student-athletes are interviewed and selected for the honor to supervise student residences, participate in some staff meetings, run residence house meetings and be given leadership opportunities that will be highlighted on their college applications.

“When asked to describe my experience at IMG Academy, the answer is simple...Unique. When asked if I would do it all over again? Without any hesitation…IN A HEARTBEAT! IMG Academy embodies excellence and there is no place like it. The combination and quality of coaching, facilities, and in-house competition makes it a Total Triple Threat. The strive for excellence translates beyond sport and into life. The experiences and opportunities I had while I was at IMG Academy shaped me into the person and athlete I am today. IMG Academy took me from a national stage to a global mindset and I am truly sincere when I say that IMG Academy changed my life. However, the best part of my IMG Academy experience was the wonderful friendships and memories I made. As an IMG Academy alumnus, I will always treasure the time I spent as a student-athlete and I feel blessed to call IMG Academy home”. There’s a reason why IMG Academy has earned the reputation as the ultimate training ground for passionate student-athletes. With 450 acres dedicated to total development and improvement, IMG Academy is truly a Sports Utopia.

Guided by the iconic Nick Bollettieri and led by Director Rohan Goetzke, former coach of 1996 Wimbeldon champion Richard Krajicek and professional tennis player Mario Ancic, the IMG Academy Bollettieri tennis program sets the standards by which all tennis academies are measured. A pioneer in the industry, our program has developed champions at every level of the game and continues to produce complete players who have the technical, tactical, physical and mental skill to dominate the competition in any setting.

Depending on the academic schedule, our student-athlete’s are split into two sessions - morning or afternoon where they receive multiple hours of on-court training per day that includes match-simulation drills and match play. Off the court, all student-athletes utilize the cutting-edge “Mission Room video analysis sessions designed to analyze on-court performance and enhance match play skills through proper shot combinations to minimize open-court opportunities for the opponent.

No other program in the world has won as many junior tournaments, generated as many college scholarships or put as many players on professional tours as the IMG Academy golf program. Success on the course begins with preparation off the course and at IMG Academy, students develop their game through a periodization approach that addresses the technical, pre-competition and competition phases, resulting in lower scores and golfers who learn how to play, not just how to swing. Our IMG Academy coaching staff, who averages 10-plus years of coaching and has successfully completed one of the most rigorous coaching certification processes in the industry; group
