“PEOPLE OFTEN SAY THAT THEIR TIME IN COLLEGE IS THE BEST 4 YEARS OF THEIR LIFE. PERSONALLY, NOTHING CAN COMPARE TO THE FOUR YEARS I SPENT AT IMG ACADEMY. Leaving home at the age of 14, I had no idea what to expect. Now, as I look back on that day, I have 100% confidence in saying it was the best decision of my life. IMG Academy allowed me to expand my horizons, helped me work towards my goal of playing baseball at a higher level and it provided me with friendships from all over the world that will last a lifetime. I am proud to say I am an IMG Academy alumnus and I have all the confidence in knowing that IMG Academy shaped me into the person I am today.”

ADMISSIONS

Applying to IMG Academy is an integral step in your development and has a profound impact on your future as a student-athlete. While we welcome applicants of all backgrounds, attending IMG Academy requires some common characteristics:

HOW DO I APPLY? ONLINE APPLICATION

WHAT DOES IMG ACADEMY LOOK FOR IN A STUDENT-ATHLETE?

Go to imgacademy.com, and follow the instructions to submit an application.

IMG Academy looks for student-athletes who have a strong commitment to academics, athletics and personal growth. Studentathletes must be diligent in their school, sport and community duties, with a willingness to give their all in each area.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT NEXT-STEPS All non-native English speakers are encouraged to submit results of a standardized English proficiency test to help with proper class placement. This test is mandatory for those applying to grades 11, 12, or post-graduate. IMG Academy accepts the following results: Duolingo, TOEFL, TOEFL Jr., Cambridge or IELTS. If you need to take a test, the Duolingo test can be completed through the Admissions page at IMGAcademy.com.

WHAT IS THE ADMISSIONS PROCESS? All prospective student-athletes must submit a completed application, including academic records and recommendations. Prospective families are encouraged to schedule a visit to the campus through the student-athlete advisor of their respective sport program. The visit may include a class shadow experience and meetings with admissions staff, coaches and faculty.

STAY IN TOUCH AND VISIT CAMPUS Whether you’ve submitted an application online or you’re interested in learning more, we encourage the opportunity to connect! Participating in one of our camp programs or scheduling a visit to campus are great opportunities to become more familiar with IMG Academy. If you’re interested in connecting with our Admissions staff or speaking with a Student-Athlete Advisor, please email us at admissions@img.com or call 941-877-5675.

DECISION AND ENROLLMENT IMG has rolling admissions. Notification of decisions will be sent regularly. If offered admission to IMG Academy, a Tuition Enrollment Agreement (TEA) will be sent and must be returned by the date indicated, with the required financial deposit.

12

IMG ACADEMY | BOARDING SCHOOL

IS THE ADMISSIONS PROCESS COMPETITIVE? Absolutely. Each sport has a predetermined number of spaces available, and IMG Academy classes are capped to maintain low student-to-teacher ratios.

PASSION. SELF-DISCIPLINE. COMMITMENT. DEDICATION.

HOW GOOD DO I HAVE TO BE AT MY SPORT? While each IMG Academy sport has different qualifications for participation, all of our sport programs share a common denominator in that athletic performance is not the determining factor in acceptance. Of utmost importance is the ability of the prospective student-athletes to demonstrate passion for their sport and an intrinsic motivation to reach their full potential.

WHAT IS THE MINIMUM AGE? It varies by sport: Baseball (age 13), Basketball (12), Football (14), Golf (8 for non-boarding, 12 for boarding), Lacrosse (12), Soccer (12), Tennis (8 for non-boarding, 12 for boarding), Track & Field (13)

DOES IMG ACADEMY OFFER SCHOLARSHIPS? No. We have a limited amount of financial aid available. Recipients are selected based on an academic, athletic, character and financial review.

WHAT IF A STUDENT-ATHLETE GETS INJURED? If an injury occurs that keeps a studentathlete away from normal training and participation, (s)he is placed into the Injured Athlete Program (IAP). This results in temporary enrollment in the Athletic and Personal Development program, which provides for a seamless transition back into sport after rehabilitation and a medical release for participation.

We are here to help! The Admissions Department staff welcomes any questions prospective student-athletes may have regarding the admissions process, testing or scheduling an interview. Contact the office at: IMG Academy Admissions Office 5650 Bollettieri Blvd. Bradenton, FL 34210 P: 941-877-5675 F: 941-752-2526 Email: admissions@img.com

ACADEMICS

A CURRICULUM AS COMPETITIVE AS OUR STUDENTATHLETES. The hallmark of an IMG Academy education is a robust curriculum - an abundance of learning experiences that require collaborative problem-solving and subject-specific assignments in which learners critically and creatively examine the world around them. The IMG faculty forms the core of a much greater academic support team that includes parents, administrators, coaches, residential mentors and campus life staff members, all of whom work tirelessly to positively impact academic, athletic and character growth.

Nobody is guaranteed a college scholarship when (s)he comes to IMG Academy, but we provide every opportunity possible to help our studentathletes earn one. The potential for earning a scholarship is heightened with the right amount of commitment and dedication. While much of the responsibility is on the student-athlete to perform to the best of his or her ability in a chosen sport and in the classroom, IMG Academy provides all the tools necessary to help a student-athlete earn a scholarship, including a dedicated College Planning and Placement advisor.

WHAT IS THE QUALITY OF IMG ACADEMY’S ACADEMICS?

HOW DOES THE ACADEMIC/ ATHLETIC SCHEDULE WORK?

HOW DO I KEEP UP WITH SCHOOLWORK IF I’M TRAVELING FOR MY SPORT?

Our track record speaks for itself. Recent student-athletes have been named Scholastic All-Americans, National Merit scholars and have gone on to succeed at some of the most demanding institutions in the nation, including Brown, Duke, Harvard, Stanford and Yale. Not coincidentally, many of these student-athletes attribute their ability to balance athletics and academics to what they learned at IMG Academy.

IMG Academy utilizes an innovative schedule that involves school in the morning and sport training in the afternoon or vice versa. This creates an ideal environment for the optimization of education and athletics.

The education requirements for studentathletes do not stop when they travel, as the balance is part of their preparation for collegiate life.

HOW DO YOU SUPPORT INTERNATIONAL STUDENTATHLETES? Because of our strong international studentathlete base, IMG Academy offers a variety of support programs to help those who need to enhance their English language speaking and writing proficiency. For more information, see page 26.

16

WHAT ARE MY CHANCES OF GETTING A COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP AFTER ATTENDING IMG ACADEMY?

IMG ACADEMY | BOARDING SCHOOL

Extra help with teachers is also available to student-athletes upon their return. All involved parties can communicate and plan through this system. If a team is scheduled to travel for more than five days, a faculty member may travel with the team to ensure that schoolwork is being completed.

Eligibility requirements include a B+ average or better in the previous subject area course and approval from the administration. If a particular Honors class does not fit within the demands of a student’s schedule, IMG Academy also offers individual Honors contracts, which require student-athletes to complete additional assignments, take more challenging and additional assessments, and meet outside of regular class hours.

IMG Academy participates in the College Board’s Advanced Placement (AP) Program. More than a dozen AP courses are offered to student-athletes who are motivated and capable of succeeding in college-level courses as indicated by earning A grades in the previous years’ coursework. Other criteria must also be met, including receiving instructor permission. Upon entry into an AP class, student-athletes and parents sign a contract obligating the student to maintain certain grades and to meet certain levels of classroom participation and effort. AP weight and transcript designation will not appear until completion of the AP course exam. An AP course designation is changed to that of an Honors-level course that carries associated Honors GPA weighting if a student-athlete does not sit for the AP exam.

ACADEMICS

GRADES 5-12 CURRICULUM The focus of the IMG Academy curriculum is to develop critical thinking, collaboration, perseverance and communication skills through the study of traditional subject areas. The school’s curriculum is designed to prepare student-athletes for the rigors of university life.

! ENGLISH

DEPARTMENT

MATH DEPARTMENT

The English Department centers on two language capacities: literary analysis and academic writing. Its courses include opportunities for student-athletes to think critically, to contribute to discussion-based learning experiences, and to engage in Socratic seminars. The objective is to develop an appreciation for all genres of literature and to master the essential components of effective verbal and written communication.

The mission of the Mathematics Department is to prepare student-athletes for success in college mathematics and future real-world applications.

Student-Athletes in grades 5-8 are introduced to a number of texts and genre, while being providing with foundational lessons in grammar and writing.

Grades 9-12 offer a traditional series beginning with Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II. These courses are designed for all student-athletes of all abilities and are the principal courses needed to meet the four math credit requirements for graduation. Student-athletes then move into more challenging courses that broaden and deepen their understanding of mathematical concepts.

Grades 9-12 are immersed in close readings of fiction, non-fiction, poetry and drama. Studentathletes engage in a variety of essay writing endeavors from the personal narrative to the research paper. Cultural awareness is promoted as student-athletes read, write and analyze from a diverse array of literary options. 22

 SOCIAL STUDIES DEPARTMENT The Social Studies curriculum offers exposure to geography, economics, government, culture and history. Student-athletes learn to access a variety of sources, discover ways to integrate technology into their learning experiences, analyze primary and secondary source material and engage in research. Cultural studies emphasize the importance of celebrating diversity.

 SCIENCE

DEPARTMENT

The Science Department strives to provide a foundation in the elements of a scientific method, theory, applicability and laboratory practice that challenges the student to acquire an in-depth appreciation of the scientific enterprise. Courses in grades 5-8 survey major scientific fields of study and familiarize student-athletes with lab components. They teach the critical skills and concepts needed to continue with 9th-12th grade courses that are designed to cover skills and knowledge in specific fields. Student-athletes gain an understanding of the key role that science plays in human endeavors and practice a problem-solving, hands-on approach.

 WORLD

LANGUAGE DEPARTMENT

Consisting of Spanish and French, the World Language Department emphasizes the teaching of language, literature and culture. Student-athletes are given an opportunity to begin their world language journey by becoming actively engaged in the study of Spanish. Our teachers are dedicated to increasing oral and written fluency, enabling student-athletes to interact with native speakers and to continue language learning beyond the classroom. Student-athletes are engaged through a wide variety of instructional resources and critical thinking activities that develop their ability to thrive in multicultural settings.

ART DEPARTMENT

The Art Department is composed of courses that incorporate a variety of mediums and a rotating workshop series. Art in grades 5-8 is offered as an elective. For grades 9-12, IMG Academy divides art into four areas of study: drawing, design, painting and printmaking. All art courses are studio-intensive and encourage technical skill development, including two-dimensional applications such as painting, drawing, design and printmaking. To expand its offerings and exposure to threedimensional art, the Art Department hosts four to five artist-run workshops throughout the year. Past workshops included glass-working, jewelry-making, wheel-throwing and welding. Additionally, guest lecturers, photographers, graphic illustrators and fashion designers are routinely invited to speak about their work. IMG ACADEMY | BOARDING SCHOOL

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT-ATHLETES To ease the transition and prepare international student-athletes for their next step, IMG Academy offers multiple levels of English as a Second Language (ESL) programs that help non-native English speakers reach the same level of English-language proficiency as native speakers. All studentathletes are evaluated on their competency – 11th/12th graders must submit TOEFL iBT scores and all other student-athletes are encouraged to submit TOEFL iBT or TOEFL Junior scores – and then go through a final assessment before being placed in the appropriate program. HOW MANY INTERNATIONAL STUDENT-ATHLETES ATTEND IMG ACADEMY?

THE MOST DIVERSE STUDENT BODY ON THE PLANET. IMG Academy is truly a global environment that attracts student-athletes from around the world – all looking to reach their true potential.

LAST YEAR ALONE, STUDENT-ATHLETES FROM MORE THAN 80 COUNTRIES TRAINED AND STUDIED AT IMG ACADEMY.

26

IMG ACADEMY | BOARDING SCHOOL

Over half of our student-athletes come from international backgrounds. Our student-athletes experience different cultures and become friends with others from around the globe. Many IMG Academy faculty and staff members are multilingual and have traveled extensively. This contributes to the Academy’s reputation for building positive relationships between student-athletes and those who serve them.

DO I NEED TO SPEAK ENGLISH FLUENTLY IN ORDER TO BE ACCEPTED? International student-athletes do not need to speak English fluently unless applying to grades 11 or 12. However, we do expect studentathletes to have a basic proficiency level in order to participate in the classroom, particularly in 9th-12th grade. English ability will not affect your acceptance, but IMG Academy reserves the right to mandate intensive English instruction before beginning the college preparatory program.

ARE TOEFL RESULTS REQUIRED IN MY APPLICATION? Duolingo. TOEFL, TOEFL Jr., Cambridge or IELTS results are required for application to grades 11 or 12. For all other grades, these scores are not required for admission to IMG Academy. If you do have TOEFL results or other English exam results, you are welcome to submit them with your application.

DO I NEED A STUDENT VISA? Most academic programs at IMG Academy are considered fulltime study by the U.S. government. If you are not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, you will need to obtain a student (F-1) visa or check the status of your current visa. Certain categories of visa holders are eligible to enroll, as well as certain dependents (spouse or children) of visa holders.

HOW DO I GET A STUDENT VISA? After completing our application and enrollment processes, IMG Academy will provide you with the documents needed to present at the Embassy. It is up to you to make an appointment and appear for an interview. Please allow several weeks for the Embassy process. We are always happy to provide guidance and basic instructions; however, we are unable to provide legal advice or assist with change of visa status requests. We take pride in helping our student-athletes have as comfortable a visa application process as possible. International advisors are available to answer your questions or concerns.

ARE CHILDREN ABLE TO SPONSOR THEIR PARENTS’ VISA? Parents of a student are not able to use their child’s visa to enter the U.S. Parents must enter on a tourist visa, the Visa Waiver Program or enroll in their own academic program. For more information, contact the Admissions Office at admissions@img.com or 941-752-2476.

IF I’M IN A SPECIFIC GRADE IN MY HOME COUNTRY, WILL I BE IN THAT GRADE AT IMG ACADEMY? Perhaps. All non-U.S. school records will be evaluated by an independent company that specializes in international academic credentials. Since the U.S. education system is credit-based, this evaluation will identify your current number of 9th-12th grade credits, which will help us determine how many more credits you will need in order to graduate from IMG Academy. POSTGRADUATE The IMG Academy Post-Graduate program provides an exciting opportunity for motivated student-athletes to broaden their college options. By spending a “gap” year on our campus, post-graduate (PG) student-athletes have access to our exceptional athletic and academic resources. The PG student develops their athletic skills and gains the confidence and maturity to become more competitive in the college admissions process. The PG student is supported by a dedicated advisor who enhances their experience and helps them reach their goals. At IMG Academy, the PG student takes a rigorous load of high-level academic classes while participating in one of our sport programs. Additionally, they submit to an SAT/ACT prep course to increase their academic advantage. The PG student-athlete has two options when entering the program:

1. 9 TH-12TH GRADE ADVANCED PLACEMENT/SENIOR LEVEL/COLLEGE FRESHMAN-EQUIVALENT COURSES This PG option strengthens an already high-level transcript and strongly positions the student for a four-year competitive college. This option is traditionally chosen by PG students who desire to attend an elite academic university.

2. COLLEGE COURSES This PG option includes multiple college courses offered on our campus and taught by professors from local universities.. Courses are designed to transfer to both colleges and universities to insure a seamless transition into advanced college curriculum.

STUDENT LIFE

WE ARE STUDENTS. WE ARE ATHLETES. WE ARE IMG. Student-athletes need balance in their lives. Campus life at IMG Academy includes both character-building programs and activities that bond student-athletes from around the world. STUDENT ACTIVITIES

n

We take advantage of our premier location to provide student-athletes with access to firstclass activities on- and off-campus. Whether it is a beach trip or a visit to the Magic Kingdom at Disney World, we strive to let our student-athletes see everything this area has to offer.

Academic Growth - Our residential mentors work with student-athletes on time-management and organization, cultivating good study habits and working with our Learning Resource Center and school in making sure a student has the proper academic support and tutoring they may need.

n

Personal Growth - We focus on life skills, peer-to-peer interactions, health, wellness and leadership. With a sense of structured independence, we want to let student-athletes take ownership of their life here. While they are making these independent choices, a team of adults is there to provide structure and ensure that student-athletes have the support they need to make the right decisions.

n

Social Growth - Through self-advocacy, being a positive member of a community and positive peer-to-peer/adult interaction, we help student-athletes become better prepared for college. A key component of this is having our residential mentors help student-athletes see the best way to work through issues whether they are with roommates, on the practice field or in the classroom.

On-campus options are plentiful and range from daily choices like relaxing by the pool, playing video games in the student lounge or cheering for fellow student-athletes in other sports to special events like welcome back parties, holiday celebrations, Homecoming, Prom and more.

SOCIAL ATMOSPHERE IMG Academy’s campus life philosophy is built around three central themes: personal, social and academic growth. Between the web of residential mentors, coaches, teachers, administrators and other adult members of the IMG Academy community, your student-athlete will never have a lack of support staff helping them succeed.

Student ambassadors not only act as an extension of the staff on campus, but they also act as representatives of the student body. Through their involvement with the Ambassador program, studentathletes will learn to live to a high standard and push themselves to be the best in all areas of campus life.

STUDENT RESIDENTIAL ASSISTANTS Student-athletes are interviewed and selected for the honor to supervise student residences, participate in staff meetings, run residence house meetings and are given leadership opportunities.

The student ambassador program was designed with the purpose of allowing student-athletes to be an extension of the staff through their involvement with various projects on campus and become leaders for the student body. The various projects in which an ambassador helps range from being a member for a panel discussion during open house weekends to acting as a liaison for campers during their stay.

“WHEN ASKED TO DESCRIBE MY EXPERIENCE AT IMG ACADEMY, THE ANSWER IS SIMPLE...UNIQUE. WHEN ASKED IF I WOULD DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN? WITHOUT ANY HESITATION…IN A HEARTBEAT! IMG Academy embodies excellence and there is no place like it. The combination and quality of coaching, facilities, and in-house competition makes it a total triple threat. The strive for excellence translates beyond sport and into life. The experiences and opportunities I had while I was at IMG Academy shaped me into the person and athlete I am today. IMG Academy took me from a national stage to a global mindset and I am truly sincere when I say that IMG Academy changed my life. However, the best part of my IMG Academy experience was the wonderful friendships and memories I made. As an IMG Academy alumnus, I will always treasure the time I spent as a student-athlete and I feel blessed to call IMG Academy home.”

BOYS TENNIS

Train beside the world’s top ATP players, including the 2017 ITF No. 1 ranked junior

n

Application of advanced technology (Gatorade Sports Science Institute testing) used for assessing and improving specific skills

IMG Academy’s boys tennis program sets the standard by which all tennis academies around the world are measured and dates back almost 40 years to Bollettieri Tennis. Our coaches, who have countless years of experience both coaching and playing at the collegiate and ATP level, customize individualized development plans and tournament schedules to set each athlete up for success.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Our tennis players graduate knowing how to compete in any match situation, as they receive multiple hours of on-court and off-court training per day from some of the sport’s leading coaches. On the court, student-athletes practice progressive match-simulation drills and compete in an incredibly dynamic and competitive environment. Off the court, video analysis sessions enhance match play skill through proper shot combinations to minimize opencourt opportunities for the opponent. Competitively, student-athletes travel regionally, nationally and internationally with chaperones to compete in tournaments fitting to their skill level, which leads to match experience that can be found nowhere else.
