A Mother’s Journey of Faith

MATTER emPOWERing women from the inside out

SPRING IS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can boldly say that I survived the COLDEST WINTER EVER!!!! Cold hearts, cold shoulders, frozen dreams and pain like never before. This last season, I dealt with depression and borderline insanity. SO MUCH was happening all at once and it felt like the rug was repeatedly pulled from under my feet every time I thought I was beginning to make progress. Sound familiar? So many cold lonely nights and dark days filled with questions, wondering if I was on the right path, am I doing the right thing, why is this happening, how is this going to work out…… Winter had me walking a tightrope in stilettos over starving, angry lions…I often joked about, but then literally lived the reality of a thin line between insanity and Radikal Faith. My life has drastically changed in the past few years and came to a boiling point filled with intensity within the last few months. I reached out to a trusted friend, saying, “I need help. I can’t do this anymore. I just want to be alone and rest in a padded room.” I was beyond serious. My heart was aching for my family and I was struggling like never before. I‘ve had tough times in the past, however, this time, because of the responsibilities I had walking in my purpose, the pressure was suffocating me. Public meltdowns, private catastrophes, crying on the floor one minute, laughing and encouraging someone else the next…Winter, the mental battle of my life that could have been where my story ended, made me discover a new level of passion within me. I had no control over the situations I was in and couldn‘t MAKE them adhere to my screams to stop bullying me. I decided one day that I was going to BELIEVE to the end. I wasn‘t going to throw in the towel, I fought back in Faith.

This Winter….I fell in Love with Him all over again…He didn‘t leave me. When I cried out, He answered. He quieted the voices of the naysayers and serenaded me with His promises. He protected and comforted me through the cold bitter relationships and then said, ―Arise my child…Spring is here…. BLOOM….

ABORTED ABORTION/ A Mother’s Journey of Faith

I

t was an April morning back in 95, which I stood outside of a clinic in Middletown, New York. My plan for that day was to have an abortion, but after a 3 hour session with a counselor who I will never forget, I left the clinic still pregnant. Still scared, still unsure of what, how or where I would do any of this and heard these words, "You will have a son and you will raise him alone." I was 18, his father a lot older... barely knowing each other, I braced myself for the task at hand. I spent the next few months on a roller coaster of being homeless, working many jobs at a time to getting fired and living in a rooming house.

The night before my son was born, I got the call from OCJ {Orange County Jail}. Perhaps I should've remembered the prophecy, but instead I cried. For I was days away from delivery and my boyfriend was in jail. I think my son felt his mother cry that night, so 2 weeks before his due date, my son, came the next day at 12... No pain killers, no tares, just a little boy to keep me company.

ABORTED ABORTION/ A Mother’s Journey of Faith

The first couple of years seemed to flow by. It was a mixture of dead-end jobs, collecting food stamps, starts and stops in college and moving, first all throughout Middletown, NY, to the next instructions from God, "Go back home." So me and my 3 year old packed our things in black garbage bags and moved back to Brooklyn to the apartment I grew up in as a child. Once there, I sat on the roof of my mother's building, looked up to the sky and said, "I'm here, now what?" Not knowing whether or not, the Lord heard me; I hit the pavement hard looking for a new life for me and my son. His father was out of jail, yet... as we all know, he was a boy and I was raising him alone.

10

"I was tenacious and what I did not know, I would stop at nothing to learn." Working through a temp agency I landed a job with MetLife. At the time, I had no computer skills, no degree and could barely type, but in the words of my then boss, "I was tenacious and what I did not know I would stop at nothing to learn."

He was angry and honestly, at times, so was I. No matter what or how much I did; from counselors, religious and secular, mentors, coaches, pastors, after school pro-grams, nothing seemed to help.

Within a few months of being back in NYC, I was working with a starting salary of $42,000 a year. 14 years later, still at Met with a salary way above the start, I guess that was the ―NOW WHAT"

I would encourage him, I would discipline him, his father, my father, my family, his family. Changing of schools, mental health evaluations, juvenile detention centers, you name it, we did it. And still, he was angry

The next few years SUCKED! Yea, I had a job. Yea, I had a home and a car, Yea, I was heavily involved in ministry.... and at home I was raising a son that was angry.

It's funny how you tend to think that what you are going through is the worst thing you've ever been through. I must have said that a million times during the next few years. So I stopped saying it. Honestly, during these next few years there were many things that we started and stopped. One of the greatest lessons I have learned raising my son, is that it doesn't always get better but it certainly gets different. .

ABORTED ABORTION/ A Mother’s Journey of Faith He no longer told me that he hated me, we learned different ways to communicate and I tried desperately to see him for him. Something else also happened, I stopped trying and started living. My faithless days became days of peace. I learned to live in the moment, take things as they were. I was no longer on a quest to right my wrongs or to live to standards set by the world. I understood that I was chosen to be his mother, and good, bad or indifferent, I was going to be just that. So we learned to get through, some days we smiled others we yelled. But one thing for sure... the sun continued to rise each and every day. You have been reading bits and pieces of my experiences raising my son over the last 18 years. I am sure parts of my writing will encourage you or to give you hope in your own situations. So it‘s with great apprehension that I write today. I am torn between being completely honest or sugar-coating my experience in an effort to give you a false hope. The latter just isn't me so these next few words are for those that don't need to be pumped up, but those that need to live. My greatest fear right now is that even though he is turning 18, I will have to continue on this road. I am afraid that it‘s not over. It is knowing that you serve a God that can move mountains, but just won‘t... it's having to trust, when you simply do not. It's as a mother wanting desperately to just be done!!! It's pouring your heart out only to be filled with a bit more strength to get through the next moment. It's facing the reality that no matter what you do, what you have done, there are forces in control outside of you. And contrary to what many believe, when you are Daughter, even on your worst day… no matter what choices you make, even if you find yourself in an emergency room after downing pills and a bottle of vodka...when you are a Daughter, your life is not your own! Your will, call it free-will, if you want is still safely secure in the palm of your Father's hand. So Father, this story is for you. I completed my task. You told me that I was having a son and I will raise him alone. Father, it has not been easy, but I did it. I thank you for choosing me. I thank you for the lessons I've learned and the lives I've touched. I pray that he has learned of you. I pray that he has grasped some of the wisdom and tools that he will need to face the world... but mostly Father, I pray that just as I am Your Daughter, he is Your Son. I release him back to you today. The above is an excerpt from my soon to be released book: ―Son, Don‘t Touch It, It‘s Hot, A mother’s plea.‖ jnurullah@gmail.com (484) 544 9115 12

I am a survivor of incest. It began when I was 14 years old and did not end until I left home at the age of 16. The man who abused me was at least 30 years older than me and he was a called a ―man of God‖ because he was a pastor. To this day, he still pastors a church... I lived with feelings of shame for several years. I never enjoyed the sexual experience with the pastor. Every sexual encounter that occurred was physically painful. I was groomed by the pastor, however. I used to feel like I was at fault. He drew me by quickly defending me whenever I was in trouble at home, making me feel as if he was on ―my side‖. He lured me with gifts, which I gladly accepted from him: shoes, clothes, jewelry and food. The actual molestation began shortly after I began accepting the gifts. I felt guilty for pretending to be asleep while the 250+ pound, 40+ year old man hovered over me and mol-

ested my body. Laying there, knowing that what was happening was wrong, I felt that there was nothing I could do. Who was I supposed to cry out to? I felt alone. During the abuse, he would tell me that when I turned 18 he would marry me. He used the technique of “divide and conquer” by turning those that I was close to and I against each other. It almost became a competition of who could get the most attention out of the pedophile.

Why Breach the Secret? My father had a bad temper—of course, I was not going to tell him (or anyone else for that matter) the true reason I wanted to leave

home. While the reasons I gave were honest, it obviously was not the biggest reason. I did not confess to my dad until two years later, while watching a Lifetime movie. At some point in the movie, there was a rape scene. I began to cry uncontrollably. When I calmed down, my dad, while staring at me intently, asked what was wrong. I tried to downplay my feelings and simply respond with how sad the movie was and how I could not believe a man could do that to a woman. When I realized it was too late to hide behind my tears, I finally told the truth. He used the technique of “divide and conquer” by turning those that I was close to and I against each other.

After my dad contacted the authorities and after interviews were conducted about my ―allegations‖, the authorities returned to my dad‘s home and told us that all allegations were denied. I was shocked! Contact Info: www.LaQuishaHall.com www.SheRoseAwards.com sheroseawards@gmail.com

ing the Secrecy of Possibly because of my youth and being naïve, I believed in my heart that the ―man of God‖ would tell the truth, just because he was a pastor. Not so... After I finally released such a heavy burden of hiding behind this life-changing secret, my dad and grandmother, the late Louise Tisdal, believed and supported me. I am now receiving support from my mother and my sisters. Victims and survivors of this inexcusable crime can understand the deep gratitude that is felt towards those who BELIEVE. For this, I feel forever grateful to my family and strongly feel this is one of the reasons why I have successfully survived the abuse. My self-esteem was awfully low as a teen and transitioning into my adult years. I felt that I was ugly and worthless, the very reason why an older man would find me attractive and not the young men who were my age.

22

I would sit in my bedroom as a teen and listen to music and write poetry and letters to friends because I liked being secluded. However, while doing so, I never sat on the bed, but rather on the floor or at my desk. The bed just was not a location that I viewed as safe.

I tried to pick up the pieces of my life and leave the ―past‖ behind me. I thought it was that simple. I started college right after graduating from high school and felt this would be a new found freedom and beginning for me. However, anxiety, depression & suicidal thoughts ruled my life. I was always nervous about not completing my course work, suspicious of the male students & teachers on campus, etc. I continued to struggle with the fact that I was only believed by my dad and grandmother.

I became so overwhelmed with doing well in college that my relationships with men, friends and those that I should have been close to became poor. Being overwhelmed turned into a suicide attempt during the spring semester of my freshman year. I put on my favorite dress and closed and locked my dorm door. I was ready to die. I came to in a hospital where my roommate and another college friend were sitting with me. They made me laugh and tried to encourage me that everything would be fine. My stomach was pumped after I consumed over 100 pain relievers. I shared a few laughs with my worried friends and I still had doubts; I continued to think I did not deserve or no longer wanted to be on earth. A doctor came in hours later with paperwork and explained to me and my friends that I would not be permitted to leave unless I agreed to not attempt suicide again. ing the Secrecy of Listening to the pleas of my friends to tell the doctor what he wanted to hear, I agreed, but still kept the dark thought in the back of mind that I would, indeed, try again. I want to share that while this catastrophe detrimentally affected my life, I have successfully survived and overcome the sexual abuse. I began to heal after forming a closer relationship with God, after joining an outstanding church in North Carolina. After pleading with the college housing department, I spent several holidays and school breaks on the campus—sometimes completely alone. I stayed two summers consecutively in a large dorm building by myself. I later gained friends who would allow me spend holidays and weekends with them. Currently, I am still disheartened by the fact that the man who abused me is still a pastor of a church, is around children and is still misleading many families. I feel badly for all of the parents and children who are being deceived by this man. I believe that the world needs to stop ignoring this issue and considering it ―taboo‖. As a result, I now avidly advocate for this important cause, which has also helped me to continue to heal. I share my story of abuse, prevention strategies and warnings, and how others can help. I have supported, volunteered for and joined other organizations, even created and began my own program called Queendom T.E.A (The Etiquette Academy) to increase the self-esteem and awareness of this issue to teen girls. I believe that by mentoring and increasing the self-esteem of our youth, they will gain the strength to speak out if they are ever harmed.

I want to see victims become survivors, THEN CONQUERERS

I want to see stiffer sentences for offenders with longer incarceration time. We should have zero tolerance for those abusing our children. A victim of sexual abuse suffers with the effects for a lifetime, and the abuser should be held accountable for a lifetime as well. It is a known fact that pedophiles molest children over and over again. I trust that my voice will prevent this from happening to many children...

I strongly believe it is our duty to protect all children from sexual predators. I do not want any child to experience what I did. Children should feel safe and secure in their homes. When a pedophile is revealed, they should go to prison so they are no longer free to harm other children. The vicious cycle of children being abused must stop NOW. 24

What inspired you to write DIAMONDS ARE FINE? I was dating a man who'd fathered 3 children, by 3 different women. He was always trying to do the most possible to be a great dad for his children, it just seemed that he was constantly arguing with his coparents, or he was being dragged back and forth to child support court for children that were living with him, and attending school from his address. Anyway, I just got fed up with all the illogical decision making that was centric to the insecurities of the parents that were truly harming the babies in that house, and I decided to write about it.

Do you Boo!

Are you doing what you know you‘ve been called to do? Huh? I don’t know. I’m not sure I know what I’m supposed to do. www.ty-enterprise.com

Okay—let‘s talk about purpose and see if your personal purpose becomes clearer. Each of us has a purpose, a calling, a reason for being on this earth. Your purpose is usually something that:

Impacts Others Walking in your purpose will create change in others and encourage them to grow. This happens because people who need what you have are naturally drawn to you. Consequently they are mentally prepared to receive what you are offering. The impact or change may not be visible immediately right away but because your purpose was planted in fertile ground trust that it will bloom at exactly the right time.

Alters Your Life Operating in your purpose is not about you but it impacts you. It is impossible to speak life to others, design custom outfits or create culinary mas-

terpieces without changing. You will see an increase in your confidence, business savviness and/or income. You may find you have a more tender heart to those who need your product or service and you‘re inclined to create a nonprofit or donate productsservices to an existing nonprofit. Those are just a few examples. The sky is the limit as to what changes you‘ll see in your life.

Is a Natural Extension of Who You Are What is that thing you do that comes naturally? For me it has always been administration, communication and service so it‘s no wonder that that my path has included tea-

ching, writing, managing organizations and community engagement reflects where my heart is. Think about your life and write down the three areas that you are naturally drawn to. Can be Manifested in More Than One Way Are you a natural fashionista? Does the talk of a new season send your heart a flutter because you can‘t wait to create your own style sensations and tell others how they can do the same? Being a fashion authority or trendsetter could be your passion as well as your purpose. Your passion is fashion but your purpose may be to use fashion to positively

infect the mind, body and soul of the everyday person. You can live this purpose in multiple ways. It can be your ―W-2‖ job or your business as a fashion consultant. It can be a monetized blog. It can be a YouTube channel that helps people determine how to move from ―drab to fab‖ in 5 minutes or less. It can also be coordinating a clothing drive to benefit a homeless shelter that also includes sessions on self-esteem and fashion. Yes, you can do all of that (and then some) as an expression of your purpose.

Requires Commitment Living your purpose on purpose requires you to invest your time, talent and treasure in order for it to flourish. Regardless of your natural ability you still need to make the effort to enhance and hone your talent. Many singers have natural talent but those who grow their craft and use it to their full potential also take music lessons and voice classes. They routinely practice (not just a day before a performance) and they may even do yoga to help with their breathing. That‘s a commitment. But that commitment is worth it to be better equipped to fulfill your purpose.

Brings Joy and Doesn’t Feel Like ‘Work’ Let‘s be clear. Work is work. Working your purpose is still work but it doesn‘t come with the strain of doing something that requires a high learning curve. Additionally when you need to learn something that is purpose connected you tend to approach it with enthusiasm because it‘s something you genuinely want to know more about. www.ty-enterprise.com

WOMEN IN BUSINESS/ Do You Boo by Tinesar Forrest

1

Now that I‘ve shared what purpose usually looks like, let‘s talk about some misconceptions.

Passion and Purpose Are the Same.

A like can turn into a passion due to exposure but purpose automatically surfaces when the need arises. One of my passions is helping everyday visionaries birth and develop their nonprofit businesses. Another passion is entertaining. A third passion is eating great food. These are things that make my heart sing. I‘m super happy when I do them but those things alone do not define my purpose. My purpose is to impact change. Specifically I connect, encourage and enlighten others. That purpose explains why I‘m naturally drawn to: • situations that build relationships • projects that require administrative/organizational support • opportunities to educate • scenarios that call for an encouraging word It‘s when I operate in these purpose driven areas that I feel fulfilled and challenged—all at the same time. That doesn‘t happen when I simply do things that I‘m passionate about. Passion is about me but purpose is about others.

2

You Can Only Have One Purpose.

I recently read an article that said people tend to have one of two purposes: 1) to impact others or 2) have multiple growth experiences. That perspective implies you can have multiple life experiences that help you grow and then eventually you move into the activity that helps you create change. In that manner you may have more than one purpose. Also only you can define your purpose. As a multifaceted person you can are bound to have varied interests. You may say one of your purposes is to use fashion to positively infect the mind, body and soul of the everyday person while another purpose is to use music to comfort abused children. The bottom line is DO YOU BOO! Don‘t get caught up in what people say about whether you can only have one purpose. It‘s more important that you focus on the activities that 1) make you happy and 2) cause the world to be a better place because you were here.

3

You’ll Make Tons of Money When Your Passion and Purpose Align.

Uh-no. We‘d love it if that were the case but it‘s not. The reality is that money, prosperity, name recognition and everything else you desire won‘t come unless you put in some effort. You can have people knocking down your door to get your product but unless you open the door and actually have product to sale—it‘s of no use. Passion and purpose still require you to have a business plan and it requires you to put the plan into action. Now that you have a better idea of how to identify your purpose, I hope you take time today to do you! Be purposeful. Be passionate. Be intentional. The world is waiting. Wake Your Dreams At IdyleWild Farm Nothing brings peace to a woman‘s soul like a horse. If you‘ve never had the opportunity to be with a horse, this may sound like a peculiar thing to say. But it‘s true. Horses heal the heart and soothe the soul. It‘s for this simple reason that I created IdyleWild Farm. In the place and in the space of IdyleWild, you can BE in life and face its complexities with power, inspiration, and grace, all with the help and guidance of an unexpected partner. As human beings, we don‘t see things as they are. Instead, we see things as we are. For example, I like to think of myself as open-minded and objective. I like to think that I am strong and brave, whole and complete, all on my own. But then my past catches up with me, or my insecurities overtake me, or my circumstances overshadow my understanding of who I really am. I no longer feel related or connected, not to myself or to the people around me. Then I go out to the barn, or to the pasture, or to wherever my horse is, and those constraints disappear. I see the world with quiet clarity, and I recapture a piece of the power that life often takes when no one is looking. So how can this be? How can this unexpected partner empower a tired soul, breathe life back into a weary Horses aren‘t like human beings. Horses have no filters spirit, or inspire a hurting heart? that influence how they interpret the world around them. In the wild, their only agenda is to survive. If they want to live, horses must be present to their reality in every moment. Regardless of their circumstances, regardless of what may have happened in the past, horses‘ reactions are always genuine and reflect what‘s really happening. So when you interact with a horse, and a horse interacts with you, you are given the unique opportunity to gain a new, and perhaps more authentic perspective about yourself and who you are being in the world. 52

Wake Your Dreams At Idylewild Farm When we watch and when we listen, horses will always lead us back to a place where we can see things as they are and as they should be. Through their size and strength, horses empower and inspire. Through their gentle and forgiving nature, horses fill human hearts with love. Through a spirit that has accompanied human beings for more than 5000 years, horses open doors to freedoms once unknown. If you watch and listen, horses will show you the way to your authentic self.

I‘ve spent my life with horses. When I‘ve been lost or overwhelmed or drained of all of my energy, or when my life has taken me far away, I‘ve always made my way back to the comfort of the barn and the warmth of horses. Why? Because I know that when I lose my way, horses will always bring me back home.

IdyleWild Farm‘s mission is to open up the space and the place for you to learn from a horse, an unexpected partner. Our riding programs and workshops exist so that you can empower yourself to face your fears, find your freedom, and create and live the life that you want to live. By being with horses, you may just learn a little more about what it is to be whole, to be complete, to be a human being. So I invite you to experience IdyleWild Farm, where horses are waiting to help you wake your dream.

RIP THE RUNWAY

With spring standing on our door step and one of our worse winters behind us, we anxiously anticipate everything it brings.

However, what to wear is always the question? When you hear the phrase "Orange Is the New Black" you probably think of the Netflix series. Ironically enough, it's my way of expressing how big the color orange is this spring. The scorching hue will be hot this season in clothes, bags, shoes, and has been seen as the springs "it" lipstick.

5. Surf Board... Surf Board... Sorry not talking about Lyrics from a popular song. Board shorts are springs new pencil skirt, and can even be business casual.

You can create an ebook and or audiobook for free and for $5, I will show you how. I will send you a copy of what I do to make my profits. My formula/business plan is my secret way to create success. My friends and family have no idea that I am creating wealth monthly. You can have success with this plan. It is not a get rich quick scheme. If you continue with this plan you could make $20 to $1000+ a month with each book, there aren‘t any accurate predictions of success, but if you follow this formula over and over, you will make money. When you add additional products your success multiplies. This is not a one and done business. This business will make you money every month, year after year. Make it once, publish it and get paid forever. I deliver less than 24 hours. http://www.fiverr.com/charlestsr/sho w-you-how-to-create-an-ebook

6. Rose Gold One of the tones that can flatter any complexion would have to be rose gold. Keep your wardrobe warm with a few pieces from shoes to skirts
