Creating an independent brand holds significant value in the eyewear landscape. It is a declaration of the stylistic maturity an organization has achieved through a journey of experimentation to build its brand identity.
Many components form a brand’s identity: knowledge of materials, which finds tangible expression in a product through creative design; the articulation of an overarching vision that places the eyewear within an imaginative context linked to moments in our lives; and communication combined with product market positioning, which completes the circle of key milestones on this journey.
Founded in 2002, The Optical Foundry is a concept designed to promote numerous brands that share the common attributes of originality and identity. All of these brands are conceived and subsequently created with the same principles that define quality, craftsmanship, and contemporary style.
The mission of The Optical Foundry is to empower creative independence for the benefit of independent optical professionals, giving them the freedom to offer exclusive frames and enhance their product selection for customers.
The Optical Foundry currently unites nine independent brands: Article One, l.a. Eyeworks, OGI, OGI Kids, Red Rose, SCOJO NYC 212, SCOJO, Seraphin, and Seraphin Shimmer. Each of these brands has its own identity, and some, like l.a. Eyeworks, are part of the Eyewear Hall of Fame.

Post-Industrial heritage meets avant-garde design. There’s a corner of New York where the autumn light meets the reddish-brown of bricks, where industrial architecture merges with contemporary art, creating a vibrant and surprising scene. It’s here in Chelsea that we chose to present the new eyewear collections for winter. Amidst the rough color of the burnt brown bricks and the steel staircases of the city blocks, the shots are taken at a rapid pace with an alternation of models, shapes, and colors.

A men’s style with a strong visual impact and perfect dimensions, featuring a titanium core precisely chiseled into the gunmetal temples. A frame that is a symbol of discrete luxury for the contemporary man, in a color that matches any outfit and mood. An original shape that is extremely wearable.
Step into Chelsea and you’ll be enveloped in an atmosphere that exists somewhere between the past and the future. The grand rust-colored brick buildings tell stories of old workshops and warehouses, while art galleries and restored lofts have transformed the area into one of the city’s most dynamic creative hubs. It was here, along the famous High Line, that our models posed, wearing our new collections of eyewear. We chose frames made from premium acetate, as well as lightweight, bold, and oversized frames with a “new-retro” spirit.
This neighborhood is a crossroads where its industrial past meets contemporary art. The rust-colored bricks of historic buildings blend seamlessly with the glass facades of new constructions. This is where we developed our visual narrative, inspired by a desire to present eyewear not just as optical tools, but as objects of style and identity. Chelsea is an urban space rich with atmosphere. The streets are illuminated by the slanting light of the colder seasons, and everything seems designed to showcase the understated elegance of fall and the graphic minimalism of winter. There’s no rush, no noise— just a city waiting to be observed and savored.
The brick backdrop, with its warm, earthy tones, highlights every detail: from the play of light on the metallic finishes to the subtle shades of the photochromic lenses, which can adapt to the intensity of the early autumn sky.
Autumn/winter eyewear collections are presented amid industrial architecture and contemporary visions in the heart of Chelsea.

An authentic urban set where the clean lines of historic buildings meet the metallic details of suspended bridges and the transparency of nearby skyscrapers. Walking these streets means savoring New York life in an elegant but discreet way—a life that reveals itself slowly, uncovering glimpses of modernity hidden among the warm hues of the past.
Our new collections integrate seamlessly into this context. They speak of style and innovation, with colors that blend with the earthy palette of the buildings and details that shine like illuminated windows at sunset. Each model tells a story; each shot is an invitation to look beyond.
For those who want to be moved by fashion and discover an unconventional New York, Chelsea is the ideal starting point. You can immerse yourself in art galleries, private rooftops, and hidden cafés. It opens a visual path that also becomes a journey in taste, between classic and contemporary.
This is a tribute to design, light, and a new way of looking at the world... with style.
city.
The new eyewear collections Autumn-Winter 2025.
You can’t experience the colors and energy of New York all at once. You have to live it in pieces, moving through it calmly and with a sense of wonder, letting yourself be surprised by unexpected details. It’s in this spirit of renewed observation that our exclusive photoshoot for the Autumn/Winter 2025 eyewear collections was born, set in the vibrant and artistic heart of the city: Chelsea.
This project is designed to inspire. It’s an invitation to opticians and professionals in the industry to propose an idea of eyewear that goes beyond the product itself—it’s about emotion, storytelling, and lifestyle. Chelsea, with its unconventional charm, reminds us that every detail can tell a story, that a single glance can make a difference, and that every display can be transformed into a little piece of New York to be explored.

In a world that moves fast, these images bring us back to the pleasure of pausing, observing, and choosing with care. Our collections, a mix of products and sensations, ignite the desire to explore this great city.
After all, every new season is a window opening up, and this one, in Chelsea, promises to make your look shine.

It’s clear that from any corner of the globe – a reality consistently affirmed at MIDO – one can find the ideal representative, someone adept at identifying the most compelling collections among the wealth of offerings, each upholding the highest standards of quality.
We were granted the distinct privilege of meeting with the individuals whose roles within the company are most pertinent to the themes we wished to explore: Mr. Michael Schmied, CMO of the Silhouette Group, and Mrs. Anja Strejcek, Head PR and Communication in Silhouette.
Our rst point of curiosity delved into the company’s rich history, its unwavering commitment to sustainability, and its dedicated pursuit of materials with a minimal environmental footprint.

Silhouette navigates a highly competitive landscape where standing out is no small feat. What strategies have you embraced to ensure Silhouette’s distinct recognition in the eyes of the end consumer?
Mr. Schmied leaned forward, a spark of consciousness in his voice. “When you take a closer look at our products, their distinct design identity immediately stands out. Fashionable elements may be present, but they are never the
focal point, they emerge only after the eye has registered the underlying integrity of the design. Our eyewear is intentionally crafted to defy the ephemerality of trends. It embodies a timeless aesthetic, offering the market something far more meaningful: enduring design value.” He continued, “This value is centered on the individual, on those who recognize in our creations not only elegance, but the quiet confidence that comes from wearing a meticulously crafted, never ostentatious accessory. Beneath this refined exterior lies exceptional engineering precision and an ergonomic fit we often describe, with pride, as ‘like a glove.’ Silhouette’s design ethos is built around the creation of objects with intrinsic value through superior materials, purposeful form, and functional excellence”.
Let’s explore into commercial and communication strategies. On one side, we have the inherently global reach of e-commerce; on the other, communication that demands a keen sensitivity to capture and interpret the nuances of local markets. Could we perhaps frame this as “glocal communication”?
“Over the years,” Mr. Schmied began, his tone thoughtful, “we have cultivated an increasingly distinctive communication style. This has evolved through a communication channel specifically tailored for opticians, one deeply rooted in a sense of ‘family feeling’ or, if you prefer, the unwavering reliability of our solutions, our models, and our comprehensive pre- and after-sales support. This is because we firmly believe that opticians are the vital nerve centre connecting Silhouette to the global market, the very embodiment of our brand’s spirit. The

clearest illustration of this lies in the eyewear sales process, our model for engaging with the end customer: it’s a holistic, 360-degree approach that meticulously considers every element influencing the initial assessment of eyewear, culminating in highly personalized customer service. This empowers the customer to make a truly informed decision and to embark on a significant relationship that we hope will lead them to choose a Silhouette product time and again in the future.”
You’ve characterized opticians as ‘your brand ambassadors’: could you illuminate this crucial concept for us?
Ms. Strejcek responded with earnestness, “We firmly believe that selecting the right eyewear is far more than a simple purchase. It is a refined, consultative process that demands attention to key elements: a flawless fit, exceptional comfort, the precise choice of lenses, full compliance with the corrective prescription, and most importantly, the trusted expertise of a qualified optician. This professional guidance is not optional, it is fundamental. While eyewear can certainly be sold in a more transactional, less specialized manner, doing so substantially increases the risk of poor outcomes for the customer. The optician and the optical centre are indispensable to the entire experience. They are not just intermediaries; they are experts in visual health who play a vital role in securing long-term customer satisfaction and loyalty. Their deep knowledge and personal consultation transform the eyewear journey into one of trust and care. For us, this professional commitment is at the heart of what defines an optician. At Silhouette, we are fully aligned.”

l.a Eyeworks began on September 9, 1979 when Barbara McReynolds and Gai Gherardi opened a single storefront on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, California. The original whim for this adventure? To challenge the prevailing norms of eyewear with proposals for a new, provocative revelation of the face. More than four decades and hundreds of frame designs later, l.a. Eyeworks remains a privately owned house of optical imagination, encompassing two namesake retail stores in Los Angeles and a wholesale company that channels its influential designs to a global network of independent opticians and retailers.
