We’re extremely conscious of how to serve the community while taking good care of its tax dollars. We offer the lowest millage of any village or city in Lorain County. The Village is able to offer excellent services at a low cost to residents by being efficient and proactive, rather than reactive. The proactive planning is reflected in the Village’s 2015-2025 Project, a study into the needs of the Village over the next 10 years. Our residents enjoy excellent Village services. We’re the only fire department in Lorain County whose fire fighters all are paramedics. When you need assistance, you’ll receive three paramedics, not two paramedics and a fireman. We are able to obtain a 12-lead electric cardiogram in the field and radio contact to all local hospitals, including Cleveland Clinic, St. John Medical Center, University and Mercy. Our police and fire departments have the latest emergency equipment and the service department is second to none. We’re known throughout Lorain County as having the cleanest streets during the winter. This fact is clearly visible when you leave other cities and enter Sheffield Village. We are preparing now for what we need to do as far as infrastructure five to 10 years down the road, instead of waiting until there is a problem. We’re looking to lay out a plan for what the residents think the community should be like in the year 2025 and do the work now so those things can happen without interfering with their quality of life or raising Village taxes. Residents are involved in the process by participating in committees that look at issues involving parks, sewers and streets.

Ohio Business College calls Sheffield Village home and Lorain County Community College is the premier education center in Lorain County with 14,500 students. You can achieve a bachelor or master degree at LCCC, where part of the campus is located in Sheffield Village.

An active citizenry is the heart of Sheffield Village, too. The Historical Society, Lions Club and seven churches in the Village all are very active in the community. Community spirit peaks with our March to the Arts Festival including a 5k Run, celebrated annually in August. This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, August 26, 2017 at the French Creek Nature & Arts Center. The most important thing we have in the Village is the community itself – the residents and the history of the Village. We vow to not lose sight of where we came from as we move forward to where we’re going to be. Come and enjoy life in Sheffield Village - the heart of Lorain County!
