Welcome to Amherst! Amherst is situated on State Route 58 between State Route 2 and Interstate 90 to the north and the Ohio Turnpike to the south making Amherst conveniently accessible to other areas, while allowing us to maintain our “small town” atmosphere. Our City offers an unmatchable quality of life with affordable housing, and top-notch police, fire and city service departments. We have a highly rated school system, the Amherst Public Library, numerous places of worship, the Amherst Historical Society, and University Hospital. Two Lorain County Metropark facilities located in the City offer indoor and outdoor recreational activities, and Maude Neiding Memorial Park has four outdoor pavilions and a public swimming pool for summer fun. Main Street Amherst and our historic downtown area feature various independently

owned businesses and host several annual events for the community to enjoy. The sponsoring businesses and organizations have made this fifth edition of the Amherst Magazine and Community Guide possible. This publication is designed to provide information about our City and those local businesses. I encourage you to support those highlighted in this magazine. It is through their generosity that you are receiving this copy. As I complete my 12th and final year as your Mayor, I thank you for the honor of serving you. It has been a privilege and pleasure. It is the spirit of our close-knit residential community that continues to make Amherst “home.”

Mayor David A. Taylor
