Trained Student Leader Application 2011 - 2012 Thank you for your interest in becoming a Trained Student Leader. Your primary responsibilities will be working with incoming 9th graders this summer and next year (primarily quarter 1), and being a strong student role model for our school. We are looking for students who have leadership potential; students who are well-rounded and active in school and/or community.

The time requirements of Trained Student Leaders: This school year Attend two after school 45 minute sessions fourth quarter – focus will be on Leadership Skills Thursday, May 19, 2011 – 2:45 – 3:30PM Thursday, May 26, 2011 – 2:45 – 3:30 PM Attend a 45 minute session exam week – focus will be on summer orientation for incoming 9th graders Thursday, June 2, 2011 (after the last exam) – 11 – 11:45AM. This summer Attend ½ day work session – Tuesday, August 10 – 1PM – 3PM Attend three orientation Bridges days – Wednesday August 17 10:00 AM to 1:00PM Thursday August 18 10 AM to 1:00 PM Friday August 19 10:00AM to 1:00 PM (lunch provided) Next school year Attend scheduled lunch meetings (Fridays) Attend scheduled MP with your freshmen student group – most MPs first quarter and some Wednesday MP’s for the remainder of the school year Attend monthly after school meetings with other Student Leaders and Faculty Advisors (when needed) The selection process consists of the following: 1. Application (attached) a. a completed student profile resume (pages 1 and 2) b. short essay questions (bottom of page 2) c. chart (page 3) 2. Attendance and behavior patterns a. consistency of attendance b. none to few detentions, no Saturday Study or suspensions 3. Evaluation of the above by a faculty committee to include Mrs. Coultas, Ms. Farris, Ms. Ussery and Mrs. Smith. In addition to the application, the committee will also consider the following of each applicant: a. patterns of responsible behavior (i.e. turn in schoolwork in a timely manner, is attentive and respectful in class, communicates well with others) b. strength of character (integrity, honesty, respect for peers and adults) c. social skills (personable, friendly, sincere, enthusiastic) Once you have completed your responsibilities for the application (#1 above), please submit the information* to Mrs. Coultas (Room 203) or give it to main office to place in her mailbox by Friday, April 9.
