FROM THE FESTIVAL CO-ORDINATORS Welcome to the fourth Folk by the Sea festival. This year we have slightly increased the size of the festival by adding a new venue, the Point Ministry Centre at the Kiama Anglican Church.
This site adjoins the Showground site so as well as giving us a great new venue it is located in the perfect place for us. The views from the verandah at the venue are pretty spectacular as well. We are really fortunate to again have so much support from the Kiama community, including Kiama Council. We are especially glad that Kiama Council has survived the NSW Government amalgamation process and is in a position to continue their support of this Festival. A folk festival is always made up of musicians, sound technicians, volunteers and audience. Many of you have come from afar including our international musicians. Wherever you have come from, welcome to the beautiful town of Kiama and our fourth Folk by the Sea festival. The size of the festival means that there is enough variety to excite, but it is small enough to see most of the acts. While you are here, take time to walk around the town and enjoy it. Any festival is a product of the organisation behind it. In this case that organisation is the Illawarra Folk Club who continues to keep our folk traditions alive with this festival, our larger festival at Bulli and our regular events around the Illawarra. . FROM THE MAYOR
Welcome to Folk by the Sea. From 23 to 25 September 2016, Kiama Municipality welcomes back the Illawarra Folk Club’s famous Folk by the Sea and I am delighted to extend a civic welcome for such a renowned event. The festival continues to grow in strength and reputation each year and our residents and visitors look forward to the 4th such celebration of folk, world, roots, celtic, bluegrass and gypsy music held in Kiama. We are delighted the Illawarra Folk Club has chosen Kiama as its venue again this year and look forward to working with the organisers and volunteers to make sure it is again a roaring success. Council is proud to be a 2016 sponser of the event. I understand there will be more than 50 acts from all over Australia performing in a large number of venues over that weekend and I know each venue will be well supported. What a great showcase for the Illawarra folk music scene!
FROM THE MEMBER FOR KIAMA On behalf of the Kiama community, my warmest welcome to you to the Folk by the Sea festival in Kiama.

I want to extend Council’s congratulations to the organizing committee for the wonderful work they put into the event and also commend the many volunteers who assist over the 3 days and nights to make sure the festival goes smoothly. From the opening family bush dance on Friday 23 September to the free folk concert in Hindmarsh Park on Sunday 25 September (and thereafter at the Kiama Bowling Club) there is something for everyone in this festival. I have much pleasure in extending a welcome on behalf of our community to the Folk by the Sea featival and invite the many residents and visitors who will attend to enjoy our beautiful seaside municipality and its many charms.
