The first semester of the IIA Japanese language classes for this year commenced

on the 15th of May. This semester, there are four different classes - beginners, speaking, writing and culture classes. There are a total of 76 foreign residents from 7 different countries (The Philippines, Canada, China, India, Nepal, Mongolia, and Thailand) enrolled in the four classes. The classes are taught by Japanese volunteer teachers from the IIA members. The beginners’ class has 10 students enrolled and the class focuses on teaching basic Japanese needed for everyday life. The speaking class has a total of 23 students enrolled. The speaking class is for students with Japanese level of pre-intermediate or higher. The class focuses on how to speak appropriately in formal and informal situations and how to speak grammatically correctly using full sentences. The writing class has 21 students participating. In the writing class the emphasis will be on how to write proper and beautiful kanji using a writing practice textbook and also practice writing full

Emergency Dental Care All emergency dental care will be provided at the General Health and Welfare Centre (Sogo Hoken Fukushi Senta) in Uchigo. Regarding Iwaki City Beaches opening in 2013: Based on the results of the first Iwaki City Beach Safety Measures Meeting, a decision has been made to open “Nakoso Beach” and “Yotsukura Beach” for swimming this year. 1. From May 1st this year, the Iwaki City Disaster Management Wireless Telephone Service, which provides information from the emergency broadcast system via telephone has started. ※Even during times when the usual broadcast is difficult to hear because of wind and rain, etc. you will be able to check disaster information through this telephone service. Japanese Culture Understanding Session for foreign residents Have you ever heard of Kazari-zushi (decorated sushi)? It is a type of sushi art, giving the ordinary sushi a new twist. When the kazari-sushi roll is cut it shows an image of flowers, characters etc. you can enjoy this sushi with your eyes while enjoying the taste. Bonjour! “Très Bien” is a French course for beginners. It is a circle that aims to become familiar with French while studying a little grammar as well. Let’s start a fun journey to the world of French by using materials such as “The Little Prince”. For those of you who have not experienced Japanese rainy season yet, it’s not the pleasantest of times but if you are prepared for it, it won’t be as bad as you expected. Strong umbrella, raincoats and rain boots will be a must, especially if you walk around a lot. The IIA Japanese classes will be held throughout June.
