NEWSLETTER OCTOBER - DECEMBER 2019 DINE ON AUTUMN BLACK TRUFFLE SPECIALITIES SET THE NIGHT ALIGHT THIS LOY KRATHONG COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS ON THANKSGIVING DAY

CONCIERGE IN THE KNOW LOY KRATHONG MONDAY, 11 NOVEMBER 2019 One of Thailand’s most well-known and celebrated festivals is Loy Krathong, which falls on the full moon of the twelfth lunar month. During that time, rivers and canals all over Thailand are bathed in candlelight emanating from the banana leaf-wrapped floats, offered as gifts for the Water Goddess. It is said that this is a way to thank her for a good year of harvest, and let go of any personal anger or grudges you may be holding onto. If you want to celebrate Loy Krathong in Bangkok, the best place is riverside at the Chao Phraya River. Asiatique The Riverfront is the site of the main festivities, where you can enjoy music and dance performances, as well as a dazzling firework display. For more information about Loy Krathong or any other local event, do stop by our Concierge Lounge where our Concierge team are all always eager to share their knowledge and insights.

WELCOME NOTE FROM OUR GENERAL MANAGER Dear Esteemed Guests, As we head into the final quarter of 2019, I am sure we are all eagerly anticipating the festive season and New Year, together with all the joyful memories it will bring. At InterContinental Bangkok, we have several fourth quarter promotions planned, designed to delight and inspire. A series of important festivals are taking place throughout October to December 2019, including Loy Krathong, Thanksgiving and of course, the merry Christmas festive season, so there will be many promotions to look out for. For instance, for Loy Krathong, our hotel is giving guests the chance to participate in this major Thai festival by offering Krathongs for sale at Espresso on the night itself.

CHEF OF THE QUARTER CHEF SAIFUL HUDA

Both Theo Mio and Fireplace Grill and Bar are also offering dining promotions featuring the autumn black truffle, a rare delicacy beloved for its bold, earthy flavour. The Italian style dishes at Theo Mio make the ideal base for the luxurious ingredient. Similarly, at Fireplace Grill and Bar, the unique taste of the black truffle is played up in a variety of creative ways for diners to relish.

As the man behind all of InterContinental Bangkok’s delectable sweet treats, Indonesian-born Executive Pastry Chef Saiful Huda is an expert at creating stunning desserts that speak to the eye and palate. He has enjoyed a vibrant 20-year long career working for some of the world’s biggest hotel chains.

Moreover, Espresso will also be providing guests with some exciting deals focused on premium ingredients like salmon for October and November, and Alaskan king crab in December. Chinese cuisine is also spotlighted this quarter with Summer Palace’s special Hakka dishes, which include baked whole chicken with sea salt, and baked pork spare ribs with dried pickled cabbage.

In the course of his four years with InterContinental Bangkok, he has created more than 1,000 types of unique pastries alone. Guests can look forward to sampling his creative and delicious desserts this festive season, as he will be baking his own varieties of classic Christmas goodies.

Christmas season has always been traditionally known as a time for gift-giving, and there is no better way to show your appreciation for someone than presenting them with one of our merry gift hampers, on sale throughout the festive season. With all these exciting promotions to look forward to, it is our hope that you will continue to make our hotel your preferred destination for your stay in Bangkok. We wish you a wonderful year-end and hope to see you back at the hotel in 2020. Kind regards,

Thane J. Kuhlman General Manager
