REALTOR SPOTLIGHT

INTEGRITY, KNOWLEDGE, AND HEART Leading With

For 15 years, Angela Mayfield has been a steady, trusted presence in West Virginia real estate. As an Associate Broker with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Central in Cross Lanes, Angela serves Kanawha County and surrounding communities with a reputation for honesty, professionalism, and a client-first mindset. She also leads as the Owner of the Angela Mayfield Team, offering her clients the expertise of a seasoned professional supported by a strong, collaborative group.

Grounded in Family and Values

Raised to work hard, treat others with respect, and always do the right thing, Angela’s approach to business is built on timeless principles. “Family values guide everything I do,” she explains. “Those lessons shape how I run my business— putting clients first, being honest and dependable, and creating a welcoming, supportive experience for every buyer and seller.”

A Career That Chose Her

Interestingly, Angela never set out to be a real estate agent. A friend didn’t want to take real estate classes alone and asked her to come along. Angela agreed, taking two weeks off from work to attend—and discovered a career she would grow to love. “The rest is history,” she laughs. “I found a career I love and never looked back.”

Guiding Clients With Knowledge

Angela’s style is centered on empowering her clients with information. “My approach is all about providing clear, detailed guidance so people can make the best choice for their unique situation,” she says. “Solid information leads to confident, informed decisions.” That commitment carries through every stage of the process, from coaching first-time buyers on financing to preparing sellers for the market with staging, pricing, and strategy.

What She Loves Most

The moments that stay with Angela are the ones at the closing table—the smiles of first-time buyers holding their keys, or the excitement of sellers heading into the next chapter of their lives. “Watching those big moments unfold is the best part of my job,” she says. One of her most memorable experiences was helping a young couple purchase their very first home. “Seeing their faces light up and knowing I’d guided them through every twist and turn was unforgettable.”

Areas of Focus

Angela specializes in first-time buyers, families moving up to larger homes, and clients downsizing into a simpler lifestyle. Whether it’s a cozy starter, a spacious upgrade, or a right-sized retreat, she makes each move clear, smooth, and enjoyable so clients feel confident about their next step.

More Than Real Estate

While her passion is helping people buy and sell homes, Angela is equally devoted to giving back. She recently wrapped up service with the West Virginia Association of REALTORS® and WVU Thomas Hospital, and she currently serves on the West Virginia Board of Medicine. Outside of those roles, she recharges with her family, enjoys a good movie, and loves to sneak away to the beach whenever she can.

Words of Wisdom

To those just beginning the real estate journey, Angela’s advice is simple: “Start by finding a trusted REALTOR® who will guide you every step of the way. For buyers, get pre-approved so you know your budget. For sellers, prepare your home and price it right. Most of all, ask questions and stay curious—the more you know, the smoother and more exciting the journey will be.”

homeownershipisJOY

Since 2019, Ashley Roberts has been helping families and individuals across the Kanawha Valley turn the dream of homeownership into reality. As a Realtor with Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate Central in Cross Lanes, Ashley focuses her business on the everyday first-time homebuyer—those who often face the biggest hurdles but experience the greatest joy when they finally get the keys in hand.

“In real estate, our schedules can be very unconventional and forever changing,” Ashley says. “Making my family and faith a priority is very important to me… but at the same time, I always ensure my clients have what they need, when they need it, in order to move forward with their home-buying process.”

Ashley describes her style with clients as patient, explanatory, and relatable—while also being honest and straightforward. “I believe in keeping people fully informed. Buying a home is such a big decision, and my role is to walk beside my clients, not just push them along.”

Outside of real estate, Ashley treasures time with her husband, Austin, and their two cats, Layla and Rayven. She also enjoys serving alongside her Kanawha Valley Church family at community events. “Family time is super important to me,” she reflects. “I’ve realized that time is a thief, and I want to cherish it.”

Her journey into real estate began after attending West Virginia State University and then discovering a real estate course at BridgeValley. “I signed up out of pure curiosity,” Ashley recalls. “Little did I know, after 90 days, I’d find my passion.” That passion grew quickly when she was mentored by Angela Mayfield at Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate Central. “I haven’t looked back since,” she says.

Like many Realtors, Ashley has faced plenty of challenges with her clients. She frequently helps first-time buyers with financial coaching, emotional negotiations, and connecting them with trusted contractors. But she says the true reward is in the moment of victory. “These transactions typically come with more challenges,” she explains. “But once you overcome every speed bump and hand the keys over to someone who never thought their dream of homeownership would become a reality, it is like no other feeling. The most rewarding job out there.”

One of her most memorable success stories came with a buyer who spent years on a waitlist for a new home through RCCR, a non-profit housing program. “We hit every obstacle you could think of during the process,” Ashley recalls. “What typically takes 30-45 days took years… but we made it! Hearing, ‘I couldn’t have done it without you,’ at the closing table is the best feeling.”

Ashley specializes in homes under $250,000, with a passion for guiding first-time buyers through the process. Her clients often describe her as honest, relatable, and highly communicative—and one even called her a “bulldog” for her determination and negotiation skills.

For Ashley Roberts, real estate is more than a job. It’s a calling, a ministry of service, and a way to walk alongside families during one of life’s most important milestones. With honesty, persistence, and a heart for people, she continues to make homeownership dreams come true in the Kanawha Valley and beyond.

REALTOR SPOTLIGHT

Service.Heart. Dedication.

For 25 years, Tammy Doss has been helping buyers and sellers across Putnam, Kanawha, and Eastern Cabell counties achieve their real estate goals. Based out of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Central’s Hurricane office, Tammy has built her reputation on loyalty, gratitude, and a simple guiding principle passed down from her mother: live your life with good intentions.

“My mom always told me, if you wake up in the middle of the night and something is weighing you down, get up the next day and make it right,” Tammy reflects. “Don’t let it linger. Correct it now.” That philosophy of integrity and accountability is at the core of every transaction she handles.

Tammy describes her approach with clients as deeply personal. “Each client’s needs are different,” she says. “I try to listen and help the best way I know how.” From first-time buyers to families upsizing, downsizing, or moving on to their next adventure, she embraces the unique story behind every sale.

Her joy comes from seeing smiles at the closing table. “Helping people through the good times of buying and selling—whether it’s a new home, a parent’s home, or a fresh start somewhere new—this career has made my life full,” she shares.

Outside of real estate, Tammy’s life is centered on family. She is proud to be a daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother—and she cheers on her local roots as a Hayes Hornet, Red Dragon, and Mountaineer. Her support also extends to small, locally owned businesses, which she champions enthusiastically.

Tammy knows that preparing a home is one of the biggest challenges sellers face. She works alongside her clients on final cleaning, staging, curb appeal, and competitive pricing— essentials for a smooth sale and smiling faces on closing day.

“The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention.” — Oscar Wilde

Tammy’s inspiration for real estate goes back to her own childhood dream of homeownership. “Becoming a homeowner had been a dream of mine since I was a very young girl,” she recalls. “I wanted to be part of something good in someone’s life, and choosing this path—the American Dream—was the best decision I could have made. The service I provide fills me with happiness and pride.”

Over the years, Tammy’s clients have not only trusted her once, but many times over. “When I help a family several times over and over again, it brings me confidence and pride,” she says. “To think they keep coming back —wow! Gratitude.”

Tammy describes herself as a “small boutique Realtor,” offering highly personalized service with big results. “You give me the lead, and I take off to the winner’s circle,” she says with a smile. And when it comes to online home shoppers? “I like the internet shopper to swipe right when they see my homes for sale.”

Building Relationships, Guided by Faith

The Story of REALTOR

For nearly two decades, Gwen Samms has been a trusted name in West Virginia real estate. As a Realtor with Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate Central in Hurricane, Gwen serves the communities of Putnam County, as well as Kanawha, Mason, and Cabell counties. But what truly sets her apart isn’t just her years of experience—it’s her heart for people, her devotion to faith, and her belief that every challenge has a solution.

“My family is my why,” Gwen says with a smile. “My husband and children keep me grounded, and I’m about to become a grandma soon—which is going to be so much fun!” Her faith, she adds, is the foundation of everything she does. “I would be nothing without God. He’s been there through every moment with me, and I cannot thank Him enough. To God be the glory.”

Gwen became a Realtor 19 years ago, drawn to the flexibility it offered her family life. Over the years, her style has developed into something she describes as “relational.” For her, real estate isn’t just about buying or selling a home—it’s about building community and walking with clients through every step of the process.

“I want to be there long after closing,” she explains. “Real estate is about relationships, not transactions.”

Her commitment to people extends far beyond her work. Gwen is an avid animal lover, happily spending her free time with her cat, Bleu, and her golden retrievers, Mounty and Maizy. She also serves as president of her company’s non-profit, REC Kickin Cancer, which raises funds and awareness for families facing cancer. On top of that, she plays an active role in the community through the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce, Network of Women, the Comeback Club, and Rotary.

With nearly two decades of experience, Gwen has become a steady hand in guiding clients through the often unpredictable real estate process. From inspection and appraisal issues to financing challenges, she has seen it all —and learned that persistence and problem-solving always pay off. “There’s so much that can go wrong,” she says, “but I’m there to help smooth it all out.”

One of her most memorable experiences came recently while helping a military family buy and sell at the same time. The new home they were purchasing had unexpected issues, and to make matters more stressful, the father was expected to miss closing because of his service. Through Gwen’s dedication, the problems were resolved, both transactions closed successfully, and the children were able to start school on time. Even better, the father was able to attend closing after all.

To celebrate, Gwen gifted the family a handcrafted wooden American flag, creating a powerful and emotional moment for everyone involved. “It was such a happy ending for a family that deserved it so much,” she recalls.

Today, Gwen continues to specialize in residential properties, particularly in the Putnam County community, while also serving surrounding counties. Her reputation is built on her problemsolving mindset and her ongoing commitment to her clients long after the paperwork is signed. “My years of experience have taught me that every problem has a solution,” she says. “Clients can count on me to get them to the closing table, but also to continue answering questions and serving them afterward.”

To those just beginning their journey to buy or sell a home, Gwen’s advice is simple: “Be consistent and never give up. You’ll get there.”

For Gwen Samms, real estate has never just been about houses—

it’s about people, relationships, and community.

Grounded in faith, fueled by family, and driven by nearly two decades of experience, she continues to help families find not just houses, but homes.

“I

would be nothing without God. He’s been there through every moment with me, and I cannot thank Him enough. To God be the glory.”
