 IFSEC International to address the 'Critical Global Security Challenges' in 2018

TEST & TRIAL INNOVATIONS FROM OVER 600 LEADING NAMES Security has never been a more critical discussion. 2017 was a year in which organisations and governments became increasingly aware that the threats they are working to prevent have changed irrevocably. Europe fell victim to a string of unpredictable attacks; Yahoo saw their share value fall by $350 billion over 48 hours after the largest security breach in history was revealed; the NHS found their physical assets left vulnerable after a ransomware attack disrupted their ambulance service; the FBI and Apple went to war on encryption and Airbnb properties were left in chaos when a smart lock update went wrong. IFSEC will become an orchestration of every aspect of how the security sector relates to our world. To achieve this in 2018, IFSEC will bring together the security profession and the solutions needed to achieve global safety. It will drive an emphasis on major keynote addresses from strategic global security leaders, with its

dedicated Summit hosting a multitude of high level panel debates from government and industry influencers. This is an opportunity to hear from those leading the way in identifying, installing and maintaining transformational security practices between physical and IT. Establishing the impartial voice of security equipment will also be key to the IFSEC 2018 proposition, rigorously holding technology up to the test in real-life testing, across ‘Attack Scenarios’ and ‘Surveillance Situations’. This will allow security innovation to be delivered to the world through IFSEC, revealing thousands of differentiated products that will filtrate from government, to the boardroom, and to every individual in the security profession. MR MICHAEL CHERTOFF As Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security from 2005 to 2009, Michael Chertoff led the country in blocking would-be terrorists from crossing US borders or implementing their plans if they were already in the country. He also transformed FEMA into an effective organization following Hurricane Katrina. His greatest successes have earned few headlines – because the important news is what didn’t happen. At The Chertoff Group, Mr. Chertoff provided high-level strategic counsel to corporate and government leaders on a broad range of security issues, from risk identification and prevention to preparedness, response and recovery.

“Risk management has become the CEO’s concern,” he says. “We help our clients develop comprehensive strategies to manage risk without building barriers that get in the way of carrying on their business.” Before heading up the Department of Homeland Security, Mr. Chertoff served as a federal judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Earlier, during more than a decade as a federal prosecutor, he investigated and prosecuted cases of political corruption, organized crime, corporate fraud and terrorism – including the investigation of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

DR PIPPA MALMGREN Pippa Malmgren is a former Presidential advisor and a prominent public speaker who co-founded H Robotics, which makes modular, AI-led, commercialuse drones for a wide range of industries including mining, oil and gas, insurance and public safety. Dr. Malmgren founded the DRPM Group, which advises institutional investors worldwide on investment trends and is a platform for her public speaking. She is a strong supporter of entrepreneurship in the economy. She was rated the top speaker at the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Awards twice in 2017 and serves as a judge on The Queen’s Enterprise Business Awards in 2018 in the UK.

FRANK GARDNER OBE Frank Gardner is a Broadcaster and Security Journalist. Widely respected in his field, he was the only British journalist permanently assigned to cover the ‘War on Terror’ and is known as a leading commentator on defence, the Middle East and security. A fluent Arabic speaker, Frank has interviewed Bin Laden supporters in their spiritual heartlands, Saudi Arabia and Yemen. He has reported on terrorism and all its aspects from Washington to Guantanamo Bay to Kabul. Before becoming a reporter, he spent nine years in and around the Middle East as an investment banker with Saudi International Bank and Robert Fleming. He also served as an Army Reserve officer.

She is a Non-Executive Board Member of the Department of International Trade in the UK. She also serves on the British Ministry of Defence Working Group on Global Strategic Trends. She served President George W. Bush in the White House and on The National Economic Council where she handled financial market issues. She also dealt with terrorism risks to the economy after 911. Prior to that, she was the Chief Currency Strategist for Bankers Trust and then the Deputy Head of Global Strategy at UBS.

Dahua Artificial Intelligence When Dahua Technology meets AI Accelerating the pace of intelligent surveillance Video analytics has been evolving over the past 10 years and receives much more attention these days due to the use of artificial intelligence (AI). Machine learning greatly simplifies the software development process and the processing power of GPUs (graphic processing units) made it possible to perform near real-time video analysis. Dahua Technology made an early start in AI applications compared to other players in the global video surveillance industry, thus made a few achievements in the successful application of AI-powered video surveillance solutions in projects at city and even country level.

For example, for the 2016 G20 summit, China deployed video surveillance solutions developed by Dahua Technology using AI – deep learning to automatically screen pedestrians in airport and train stations for criminal suspects. Deep learning refers to artificial neural networks that are composed of many layers. It aims to emulate humans’ ability to analyse and study. It imitates the mechanism of the brain in order to interpret data, such as image, voice and text. In the security industry, the application of deep learning is important for two reasons. the one hand, improves the accuracy of some algorithms. On the other hand, it realises functions which cannot be done without using deep learning. For instance, facial recognition includes three key parts: face detection, facial features alignment and feature extraction comparison. If deep learning technology was adopted, the performance of each part would be improved dramatically. Using deep learning, the facial expression, gender, age, hair colour, accessories, emotion etc. can all be better recognised.
