New features For this new product line, the existing capacitive sensors were enhanced with IO-Link. All further data as well as the order numbers remain the same. Application Capacitive sensors detect bulk materials or liquids through non-metallic vessel walls. Typical applications for product detection can be found in the semiconductor, paper and wood industries. Parameter setting The parameters can either be set via the buttons on the sensor or via IO-Link interface. This can be done using the USB interface E30396 or a memory plug. Data transmission A standard M12 cable transmits process data, parameters and diagnostic information to a connected IO-Link master. When IO-Link is not in use, the sensor works with one switching output.

Best optical performance The diffuse reflection sensors distinguish themselves by reliable background suppression, even in case of highly reflective backgrounds. The sensing range is independent of the characteristics and colour of the object to be detected. A special feature is the automatic sensitivity compensation that guarantees reliable operation even in steam, smoke or highly reflective environments. Ideal for food applications The potentiometers are provided with a double seal and are, like the front pane, embedded flush to allow residue-free cleaning. The transparent black housing cover ensures that, even in bright lighting conditions, the LEDs are highly visible. The coated front pane is made of resistant, shatterproof plastic.

Time of flight measurement for standard sensors The O5D with time of flight measurement (PMD = photonic mixer device) combines the following advantages: long ranges, reliable background suppression, visible red light and high excess gain. In the same price range as standard sensors, it is a clever alternative. Easy handling The switch point is set easily to the nearest centimetre via “+/-” buttons and display or alternatively via IOLink, which also allows read-out of the actual value. Any surface and any mounting position Shiny, matt, dark or light objects of any colour: the O5D features reliable background suppression. The unit allows any angle of incidence and thus flexible mounting positions. This simplifies installation and saves costs.

Sophisticated safety concept ifm electronic offers a new, powerful 32-bit safety controller for safety-related applications in mobile machines. The device is the perfect choice for complex and demanding control functions. The 32-bit SafetyController has been developed to current safety standards. Hardware and software have been certified by the German TĂ&#x153;V association. What is new is the programmable, layered error handling (keep alive): the SafetyController can be used so that if there is a serious fault it brings the plant into safe state before shutting down. In case of less serious errors however, parts of the plant in previously defined areas can still be used. Not all components have to be switched off. The behaviour of the inputs and outputs can be adapted to the application easily and precisely using the CODESYS programming software.

Safety technology Safety controllers

• Developed to current safety standards Almost all mobile machines have functions that may endanger persons and equipment. There are clearly defined product standards for more and more applications (e.g. vehicle lifts, refuse trucks). The revised Machinery Directive often means that the machine manufacturers have to meet new requirements. The 32-bit SafetyController can be used in applications up to EN 13849 PL d and EN 62061 SIL cl2. Hardware and software of the SafetyController have moreover been certified by TÜV. • The safety concept The safety concept monitors all internal and external functions and reliably switches off in case of an error. Special test routines for hardware and software monitoring are implemented in the devices. Nevertheless, these devices are easy and convenient to program via CODESYS. Diagnostic information can be found directly in the application. The behaviour of the outputs can be configured via the software in case of a fault (keep alive). Hardware, operating system software and the programming tools are certified. This simplifies approval of the project developer’s machine, because he only needs to focus on his application program. • Powerful Due to 32-bit technology, the powerful SafetyController is ideally suited for complex control tasks. Proportional functions are quickly processed. The fast bootup and the short error detection time of 110 ms provide sufficient safety in the application. • Configurability Analogue, digital and frequency ports are available as safety-related inputs and outputs. Furthermore, fail-safe inductive sensors can be connected to the SafetyController. The safe and non-safe outputs can be used as digital and PWM outputs. • CANsafety In addition to the CANopen profile, CANsafety (DS 304) enables a safe data exchange between bus participants on the same bus cable while the “normal” communication is in process between CAN bus participants (e.g. I/O modules). Each SafetyController supports up to four safe transmit or receive objects (SRDO). The data is safely processed via the two integrated CAN interfaces.

Compact and low cost ifm makes it possible: efector mid â&#x20AC;&#x201C; a volumetric flow sensor up to 600 l/min, with electronics and evaluation unit in one of the most compact housings. It is not only more compact but also less expensive than comparable sensors. Three functions The user monitors the volumetric flow quantity, the total quantity as well as the temperature with only one unit. Indirect temperature measurement In most cases the infrared temperature measurement is used where temperatures can only be measured indirectly, that means without contact. The reason for this can for example be a high temperature of the object. The sensors detect the infrared radiation emitted by the objects and convert them into an output signal. If the detected temperature is above the set switching threshold, the switching output is set and the switching status of the LEDs is displayed. Easy handling The switching thresholds and output configurations can be set and reproduced easily by means of the button and the display. During operation the display shows the current measured value in percent. High precision All these three types have a high-quality precision lens which is a prerequisite for precise switching. The lens withstands the rough environments for example in steelworks. Detection of hot slabs in steelworks.

TD temperature transmitters The TD series temperature transmitters are distinguished by a compact, hygienic design with integrated adapters and a display for local indication of the temperature. Compact vibration sensor The VNB001 is the first member of a new series of compact vibration sensors. It is used for online monitoring of overall vibration of machines and equipment according to ISO 10816. This unit is distinguished by its simple set-up, requiring no PC software for parameter setting. Function The unit is based on the proven, reliable efector octavis technology and can also be used for applications in the mobile sector. The sensor measures the average vibration velocity (mm /s or in /s). Measurement value and switchpoint conditions are visualised on the LED display. Critical machine conditions are signalled using either 2 switching outputs or alternatively 1 switching and 1 analogue output. Aditionally the operator can use the analogue input to monitor a further process value e.g. temperature. Alternatively the unit can be powered using the integrated USB interface providing the option of using the VN as a hand-held device.

Efficient and reliable Due to innovative technology the new ifm power supplies require considerably less space in the control cabinet, as compared to common cabinet power supplies. Another advantage of the efficient design is the above average degree of efficiency of up to 94 per cent. This saves energy costs and reduces waste heat in the control cabinet. In the development of the power supplies, particular importance was attached to a sufficient dimensioning of the components, so that operation is permanently ensured even in the limit areas of the specification. This results in an excellent MTBF value of about 1.4 million hours. Moreover, all ifm power supplies feature sufficient power reserves to reliably handle even short current spikes.

The new ifm power supplies require only little space in the control cabinet.

For tough environments The new high-temperature inductive sensors are specially designed for the steel and glass industries, but they are also suited for other hot environments and applications, such as industrial furnaces, burners and incinerators. Robust and reliable Standard sensors are not suited for temperatures above 100 째C. Electronic components and tin solder would be damaged. Thanks to the special mechanical construction and the use of select materials and electronic components, these sensors are perfectly suited for temperatures up to 180 째C. With its compact and sturdy design, the new series offers maximum long-term stability and reliability even under the most challenging operating conditions.

Technology The capacitive measuring principle detects an approaching human hand. Dynamic touch sensors suppress interference such as water, layers of ice or foreign bodies to a large extent. However, a gloved hand will still trigger them. Static touch sensors detect hands and objects for as long as the sensing face is damped. Touch sensors also work through glass. Compared to mechanical switches the sensors operate without wear. Since they react to contact, no pressure is required for activation which means considerably increased ease of use. The green LEDs can be controlled separately and for example be used to indicate the status of plant and machinery.

Optimum choice for conveying applications The OI design is designed for position detection in conveying where long ranges are needed. As diffuse type sensor the device is virtually independent of the colour so that objects with different surfaces can be detected reliably without readjustment. The metallic housing with a solid M30 thread is extremely robust. Even without additional protection the sensor withstands impacts and shocks. Simple switch point setting A special feature is the switch point setting using multiturn potentiometer and a distance scale. The revolutions and the scale value are linear to the distance (e. g. “1” = 100 mm, “2” = 200 mm etc.). So before connecting the sensor the switch point can be set and seen from the sensor scale at any time. There is no easier way.

For the food industry The industrially compatible M18 housing of the photoelectric sensor OG cube wetline is made of high-grade stainless steel and is therefore ideally suited for applications in the food industry, e.g. cheese plants, breweries or meat industry. The sensor has a plastic lens to prevent glass splinters from getting into the process in case of damage to the sensor. Ideal sealing concept The design of the sensors ensures a long life even in case of frequent wet cleaning, such as high-pressure cleaning. This has been proven in tests. The sealing concept is documented by the protection rating IP 69K. Mounting and accessories A visible red light source simplifies installation and maintenance. Stainless steel accessories are available to ensure quick and easy mounting.

Features and advantages The multiturn encoder converts 8,192 revolutions into one absolute position value. In contrast to the optical encoders the magnetic sensing principle allows an extremely compact design without having to do without the known advantages of the absolute multiturn encoder. The gearless system uses the Wiegand effect. In case of a power failure the position values remain without battery buffer, that means that the exact position is passed on to the controller without referencing. Mechanical versions The encoder is available in two solid shaft versions and in one version with hollow shaft open to one side.

The multiturn encoder monitors the material feed of steel sheet rollers.

Converting frequencies into standard signals The programmable frequency-to-current converter receives pulses from external pick-ups and calculates their frequency according to the interval measurement principle. Based on the set parameters, it generates an analogue standard signal (0/4...20 mA or 0...10 V) proportional to the calculated frequency / rotational speed. Configurable switching outputs The DW2503 has one transistor output and one relay output that switch on or off in case the set limit frequency is exceeded or not reached. Comparator mode In the comparator mode, the monitor DL-2503 forms the difference or the total from the two input signals (IN 1-IN 2, IN 1+IN 2). The differential or the total value can be displayed, evaluated, compared with the set limit values and provided as an analogue signal. The outputs switch according to the set parameters and functions.

Operating principle The analogue current signals at both inputs can be scaled, displayed and monitored separately. The start and end values of the current signal can be assigned any numerical value corresponding to the measuring range of the sensor (e.g. 4 ... 20 mA = 10 ... 25 bar). The monitor compares the actual signal values with the set limit values and switches the assigned outputs according to the set parameter values and functions. The input signals can be scaled according to the measuring range of the sensor, so that the user may read the physical units of the measured values directly on the display. The analogue output provides the input signal “IN 1” unchanged or scaled for further use.

Monitoring the direction of rotation The direction monitors detect the direction of a shaft rotation by means of staggered pulses. Typically, two inductive sensors serve as pulse pick-ups. Depending on which sensor is dampened first by the switching cams, the direction of rotation can be determined. Versions The DR2503 has a switching output indicating the direction of rotation and another switching output for speed monitoring. The DR2505 has one switching output for clockwise and another one for counter-clockwise rotation while offering simultaneous standstill detection. Convenient The high-contrast luminous OLED display and the menuguided parameter setting are designed for maximum user-friendliness.

In case of overload or brake failure, the direction monitor detects the unintentional lowering of the load.

Slip monitoring Slip is the rotational speed difference between the driven and the non-driven side of a power train. Rotational speed differences may occur as a result of a slipped coupling, V-belt or drive belt. The slip monitor calculates the rotational speed difference in per cent and switches off as soon as the limit value is reached. This avoids tear or damage caused by friction heat. Limit values Two separate limit values can be monitored for slip and rotational speed. The unit can be set to monitor if the limit values are exceeded or not reached. Convenient The high-contrast luminous OLED display and the menuguided parameter setting are designed for maximum user-friendliness.

Slip monitors monitor the rotational speed of the deflection rollers and detect slipped drive belts.

Synchronous monitoring The synchronous monitor compares the pulse sequences generated on two moving machine parts. As soon as these two parts move at different speeds or at different angles of deflection, the synchronous monitor switches. Operating principle The synchronous and slip evaluation is done by means of pulse differences. Both the reset time and the number of pulse differences that are just about acceptable can be set by the user. Convenient The high-contrast luminous OLED display and the menuguided parameter setting are designed for maximum user-friendliness.

Synchronous monitors are used when several power trains are to be synchronised.

Floating blanking The process should not stop when materials are fed to a machine such as a press, for example. The safety light curtains of type OY8 allow blanking from up to three adjacent beams without the safety light curtain triggering the safety function. For body or hand protection the safety device switches off if more than the configured beams or none of the adjacent beams are interrupted. Blanking with an object in the protected area For the safe operating status an object is required in the protected area; e.g. a workplate. If this is not the case, the system is safely switched off. Here you can select between the blanking of two or three beams.

Application The PI22 series pressure sensors are designed for high-temperature applications as can among others be found in UHT plants (ultra high temperature). Flexible: 2, 3 or 4 wires The pressure sensors with clearly visible LED display can not only be connected as 3- or 4-wire units but also as loop-powered 2-wire units. This reduces the wiring complexity in new installations and facilitates exchange in existing 2-wire connections. Parameter setting The parameters can either be set via the buttons on the sensor or via IO-Link interface: via USB IO-Link master, plc or memory plug.

Mechatronic flow sensor The flow sensor works to the principle of springsupported piston: The piston, located in the valve seat in the housing, is lifted by the flowing medium against the spring resistance. For binary signal output the piston position is detected by an inductive sensor. Analogue sensors however detect the position by means of a magnetic-field sensor. The spring resistance forces the piston to return to its original position with decreasing flow. This ensures position-independent installation of the flow sensor preventing backflow. The switch points can be easily set and fixed via a setting screw. The robust mechanical design ensures use in harsh environments. The units are maintenance-free.

The products

• Protection rating Due to the high protection rating the modules can be used in the field, i.e. close to the process. There are no long distances between sensors / actuators and the control cabinet.

Type

• Require little space and are light The CompactM8 modules require very little space due to their small width of only 30 mm. Therefore they are the first choice when it comes to installation in handling and assembly areas or on robot arms. Another advantage: The full potting ensures that they are extremely shock and vibration resistant. • Application The AS-i modules are addressed via the front M12 plug. The modules can be connected to the addressing unit using the standard connection cable. The M8 modules are available as passive splitter boxes with round cable connection, M12 (8 poles), M16 (14 poles) and as AS-i version. The AS-i modules will be available with 4 inputs, 2 inputs and 2 outputs and 8 digital inputs. All three modules will be exclusively supplied via AS-i; an additional 24-V voltage source is not required. The FAULT LED on the module ensures easy fault localisation by the user. A red-flashing LED signals a peripheral fault and indicates a short-circuit of the sensor supply. A permanently lit red LED however indicates a communication fault. Dimensions

Functions The safe AS-i door switches with guard locking and guard lock monitoring are mechanical safety switches with 2 inputs and 3 outputs. Via the AS-i inputs, the door monitoring and solenoid monitoring contacts are monitored. The AS-i outputs allow to trigger the guard locking solenoid and the additional LEDs (green / red). Evaluation is made via an AS-Interface safety monitor. The safe AS-i door switch is connected via M12 plug. The safety switches can be supplied completely via AS-i or by connecting an additional external 24 V DC auxiliary voltage. There are two principles for guard locking: principle of normally closed operation: guard locking by spring resistance. Release by triggering the AS-i output bit D0. principle of normally open operation: guard locking by triggering the AS-i output bit D0. Release by spring resistance. The mechanical release is used for releasing the guard locking with the aid of a tool. To protect against tampering, the mechanical release is sealed with sealing lacquer. As process protection a simple connection to the ASinterface system is sufficient. For operator protection the 24 V connection can be switched safely. Depending on the application 4 different actuators are available.

RFID evaluation unit The RFID evaluation unit DTE102 with Ethernet/IP interface has been optimised for use in quality assurance. In combination with antennas and transponders, the RFID system can be used in the production process like an electronic route card. With the IP 67 protection rating, it can be widely used in conveying, in rugged industrial environments as well as in assembly and handling in the automotive industry. RFID antennas The industrially compatible, robust antennas in the M12 housing can be used in applications where space is restricted, which is often the case in automation and handling technology. Further information about the RFID evaluation unit The RFID evaluation unit DTE102 with Ethernet/IP interface is the ideal choice for systems using controllers from Schneider Electric or Rockwell Automation. The device is an addition to the already existing evaluation unit DTE100 with integrated Profibus DP interface, which is in particular intended for customers with a Siemens controller. Integrated web server The web server is part of the evaluation unit. The user can log in via an http address and can set the evaluation unit’s parameters online from his desk (device setup). Advantages: For parameter setting, the evaluation unit neither has to be connected to a fieldbus, nor does a controller already have to be present in the system. This means the system can be tested prior to installation. Socket assignment The DTE102 evaluation unit has a total of four sockets for connection of up to four RFID antennas. Optionally, unused RFID antenna inputs can also be used for the control of outputs or the detection of digital input signals. Two digital sensors can be connected to each socket set as an input; and an actuator to each output. So, a simultaneous “mixed operation” of antennas, digital sensors and actuators is possible. The sensors and actuators are supplied directly from the RFID evaluation unit DTE102. No further wiring is required.

The new RFID evaluation unit As further component of the UHF system platform the RFID readers DTE 810 for Europe and DTE 910 for the USA are equipped with an Ethernet / IP interface. With this standard fieldbus the RFID units can be easily integrated into automated environments. The UHF antenna concept The ultra low and low range antennas are ideal for sensing in the near field. In order to achieve high selectivity, small designs are used as they allow short reading ranges. The mid range antenna is chosen for applications in the near / far field with reading ranges of up to 2 m. The wide range antennas with a 70° angle of aperture have been developed for applications in the far field where reading ranges of up to 10 m are required.

Application The VSP acceleration sensor is used to detect measurement values in atmospheres with a highly explosive potential as in the chemical, pharmaceutical and mining industries. Function Worn-out rolling element bearings need to be detected as early as possible since they cause high temperatures exceeding the acceptable range. Due to unbalance or misalignment, machine vibration can quickly exceed a permissible level. Result: high risk potential. The VSP sensor receives vibrations up to Âą 80 g and transmits them via a splitter box (within the ATEX zone) and an intrinsically safe isolated barrier (outside the ATEX zone) to the IEPE input (= Integrated Electronics Piezo Electric = charge amplifier) of the VSE evaluation electronics (outside the ATEX zone). These evaluation electronics monitor, analyse and document the incoming measured values.

High performance at low cost ifm electronic has launched the SmartController in response to market demand for a low-cost mini controller for mobile applications. As well as being used as the main controller for small machines or applications, the 32-bit SmartController is also suited for use as an intelligent I/O module for decentralised preprocessing of sensor signals in complex control systems. Flexible networking Networking of the modules with the CANopen protocol on the powerful CAN bus allows quick implementation of the application. Two integrated CANopen interfaces serve for the flexible and powerful extension of the system with further I/O or control modules. Also, the exchange of SAE J 1939 engine data and CANopen data is easy to carry out via these interfaces.

• Mechanical structure Besides a reverse-polarity protected central plug for mobile applications the control electronics integrated in a compact metal housing provides all the necessary connections for the inputs and outputs, communication and programming. The RGB status LED displays the most important system messages. • The electronics The core of the controller designed according to the applicable standards for electronics for mobile applications is a modern 32-bit processor. Monitoring and protection functions enable safe operation even under extreme operating conditions. • Configuration of the inputs and outputs By means of the application software the inputs and outputs can be configured to adapt to the respective application. Depending on the type of input, a configuration as digital, frequency or analogue input with diagnostic function or as digital input or input for resistance measurement is possible. In addition some of the inputs support the evaluation of positive and negative digital input signals. The analogue inputs enable both current and voltage measurement. Most outputs provide a configuration as digital or PWM output with diagnostic capabilities with and without current control. • Programmable to IEC 61131-3 with CoDeSys Programming with the standardised IEC 61131-3 languages enables the user to create clear and easy application software. In addition, libraries are available for special functions of the controller. • CAN interfaces with CANopen protocol All controllers are equipped with four CAN interfaces to ISO 11898. The data is exchanged with all connected bus participants via these interfaces. The CANopen protocol enables quick and flexible connection to the bus. For communication with the motor and the power train all interfaces can be reconfigured to the J1939 protocol.

SmartModule with power outputs The SmartModule, a decentralised I /O module, allows connection to the CAN bus exactly at the required position. The integrated power outputs allow direct control of motors and other consumers with a high operating current. Functions and advantages The decentralised SmartModules of the ecomat mobile system allow direct integration of binary and analogue signals and actuators to a controller via the CAN bus. This reduces the number of cables considerably. CANopen is used as the communication protocol. In addition to the data exchange with other network participants CANopen provides the device configuration as well as the setting of the baud rate and the node number via an object directory.

• Mechanical structure The compact and robust metal housing allows use of the modules in almost all mobile applications. The high IP 67 protection rating and comprehensive mechanical and climatic tests prove this. A central plug protected against reverse polarity for mobile applications provides all thenecessary connections for the inputs and outputs and communication. Dialogue module with touch screen In almost any mobile machinery a powerful process and dialogue unit is needed for machine operation and for indication of system messages. With its high-resolution graphic display, the powerful 32-bit controller and the flexible programming according to IEC 61131-3, the PDM360 NG Touch is such a user interface. The resistive touch display allows easy and intuitive handling. Its robust housing with protection rating IP 65 / IP 67 enables mounting inside or outside the cabin. It has been designed for surface and panel mounting. Connection Four CAN interfaces, Ethernet, USB and video input together with the Linux operating system form a universal platform for networking and communication with other vehicle components. As an option, analogue cameras can be connected to have a view of unmanageable machine areas.

Images and graphics can be shown with a colour depth of up to 18 bits. • Mechanical structure The PDM360 NG Touch has a fully sealed diecast aluminium housing with protection rating IP 65 / IP 67. The integrated M12 connectors provide all important connections for supply, inputs /outputs and communication. It can be used as surface mount devices using the tried-and-tested RAM® mount system or can be mounted in a wall. The service lid on the back allows the exchange of the battery for the real-time clock as well as access to the USB 2.0 service interface. • The powerful electronics The integrated 32-bit controller and the operating system Embedded Linux are the basis for the visualisation of the high-resolution graphics, the processing of the application program and the unit functions. Embedded Linux furthermore provides many possibilities as regards communication and networking with other systems and networks. • Programming to IEC 61131-3 The CODESYS software enables a clear and easy creation of the application software for the user. Function libraries are available for the special functions of the touch display. The graphic elements are created via the integrated visualisation editor and can be selected by touching the screen. • The communication interfaces The PDM360 NG Touch is equipped with four CAN interfaces to ISO 11898. They support the CANopen and the J1939 protocol among others. The integrated USB 2.0 interfaces provide easy data exchange with modern storage media.
