Greetings to all! As always I would like to start with thanking you for your support in so many ways. The year 2013 is off to an amazing start with a number of our churches and church starts experiencing God moving in remarkable ways as lives are changed through Jesus Christ. I would like to encourage you to make room for evangelism and missions during the week of February 17th. On the 19th our State convention will be hosting a one night evangelism event called On Target in Alhambra (see flyer on page 6). That same week, beginning on the 20th, one of the largest Mission Events in our state will be hosted by Immanuel Baptist in Highland. The Global Outreach Conference will involve a number of I.M.B. missionaries, along with others who serve in the mission field. It is a great time to be reminded about the heartbeat of Southern Baptists/Great Commission Baptists and the sharing of the Gospel to all nations. I would also like to encourage your church to contact us if you would like to send a team to assist one of our church plants or existing churches. We can always find a way to connect our churches in the Inland Empire as there is always a church or church plant in need of some assistance as they strive to reach their communities with the Love of God.

Paul writes in Philippians 3:13 ..."forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead." This reminds us to stay focused and not necessarily allow our past to dictate our future. The Lord has so much more for us if we remain focused on Him and not on ourselves. Not that it is an easy task, with the Lord's strength we can continue to "strain" forward. We have several projects we are working on; one of the main one is having Shadow Mountain Community Church of El Cajon partner with us in assisting one of our new church starts in evangelizing their area. Let us continue to look for other ways churches can be a blessing towards each other. We continue to have our Hispanic Pastor's breakfast each month and our Seminary classes are going well. Don't forget we are here to serve you and would like to be a part of your plans for this year. Give us a call to assist with outreach, training, Bibles, Bible tracts and strategic planning. EQUIPPED FOR EXCELLENCE Plans for the 23rd annual Equipped for Excellence training conference are complete and the first publicity packet has been mailed out. Now is the time to begin enlisting your workers and leaders to attend. Every believer wants to improve his ministry skills and this is a great way to do it. With 43 conferences, one of them will be of interest to you. This year we are proud to have such names as Rob Zinn, Randy McWhorter, Brian Kennedy, Mike McGuffee, Ken and Jan Marler, plus many others, on our faculty. You won’t find a better line up anywhere. Over the years thousands of lives have been touched by this event. The date this year is Saturday, April 13th, and as usual, we will meet on the campus of California Baptist University and Magnolia Avenue Baptist Church.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL CLINIC Our annual V.B.S. Clinic will be on Saturday, May 18th at Magnolia Avenue Baptist Church. The theme this year is, Colossal Coaster World. Some people don’t enjoy mega roller coasters, but your kids will love this theme. Watch for more information coming soon.
SUNDAY SCHOOL DIRECTOR’S MEETING The next meeting will be on Tuesday, March 19, 2013. We will discuss how to have a more effective outreach ministry. The same material will be offered in both Spanish and English. We will meet at the associational office from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served. If you find that you cannot attend, but are interested this information, I can come to your church anytime and go over it with you personally. Just contact me.
THOUGHTS ON A GREAT ASSOCIATIONAL LEADER, by Martin Leach If you have been around this association for a long time, you will remember the name John Schiveley. John was the Church Growth Consultant here from 1975 until his retirement in 2000. At that time, he moved to Rocklin, California to be near his daughter, Patti. John went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 13, from complications following hip surgery. During the time that he served the churches in the Calvary-Arrowhead (now Inland Empire) Association, he was a champion for Christian Education and especially Sunday School. John was full of wisdom and was a great encourager. He knew how to enlist and train workers. If you had potential abilities, he could spot them and would slowly begin to involve and train you. Before you knew it, he would enlist you for service. Often you wouldn’t even see it coming. He and his wife, JoAnna, were members at Magnolia Avenue Baptist Church for many, many years. During his tenure in our association, he served with four Directors of Missions and served as the interim D.O.M. on three occasions. John was highly respected all over California and was a consultant for our state convention for 20 years. Over the years John was offered many leadership positions in other places, he declined them all. He told me on several occasions that he thought there was more opportunity right here than anywhere he could go. He was committed to serving in the Inland Empire Association. On a lighter note, it has been said that John knew every Mexican food restaurant and fishing hole in California. Hopefully you have had people in your life who have invested in you, sharing their lives, and knowledge. I have been blessed because John spent many years teaching and encouraging me in ministry. I am grateful that the Lord allowed me to sit at the feet of one of the greatest men of God I have ever met. The family will hold a Celebration of Life service for John on Saturday, February 16th, 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 5425 Coronado Way, Rocklin, California. Apartment life is a faith based organization motivated by the belief that every individual is created for community, They has started a program called CARES, a program to help apartment residents feel a sense of belonging which helps apartments keep their residents for longer periods of time. The CARES program is carried out by a CARES Team (a married couple, family, or "team of two"). Once recruited, each CARES Team is placed into apartment communities to live onsite and work with the management team to build community and serve residents by doing things that flow naturally out of the Christian lifestyle - welcoming new residents, planning social events, and CARE-ing in times of need. As an Association, this is a great avenue for reaching people with the gospel as we can get our churches involved on the CARES team, allowing that church to reach out to the entire apartment complex. Recently, Jon and Jamiel from Watermark Church have joined the CARES team. “Our goal is to build community where we missionally live out the Gospel so that others can hear, taste, feel and see transformed lives through faith in Christ so they too might know and be transformed themselves by the living Gospel. Jamiel and I do this by living in the community as residents and setup events in order to meet and build relationships in a natural missional community setting. We invite people to come have a meal with us and introduce others in our church and ministry to spend time with them and start a spiritual conversation which leads to the Gospel of Christ We also look for and create opportunities to meet the felt needs of our residents, which by doing so allows us a platform to introduce Christ to them the way Christ introduced himself to others. Watermark Fellowship Church (from the Inland Empire Baptist Association) supports us in prayer, volunteering and finances. Jep and I have also been blessed by many fellow co-ministers who have heard of our call to ministry and have, by the graciousness of their hearts, donated and given us many things to help us in this ministry. Furniture, kitchen supplies, party items, fliers and designing those fliers, and most precious of all, their time to plan and participate in this ministry!" God has blessed us exceedingly and abundantly beyond what we could have ever imagined! We firmly believe that by living out and sharing the Gospel in our everyday lives, intentionally seeking the lost and making disciples of those who come to know him, as Christ did, we fulfill the great Commission.
