Happy Holidays to all! As you enter this time of the year our prayer is that you will be blessed by our God in many ways. I want to express my thanks to all of you who attended and participated in our Annual Meeting. As many of you know we tried something different this year, judging by the response, “Ministry Connection” is an event we can build upon. I would appreciate hearing from you as we strive to make our Annual Meeting a time of celebration and an event that adds value to the ministries of our churches. One of the suggestions is that we bring in someone who will lead us in a specific conference right before the event begins. I am certainly open to that idea and would like to have the names of anyone that you think could come in and be a benefit to our churches. Since effective speakers are highly sought after the sooner I can get some names the greater the possibility of scheduling someone who would bless our pastors and churches. Transformed was another event that we were blessed to host this month, it was good to see many of you there. The Living Waters ministry would like to come into some of our churches and provide a one day conference like Transformed, but on a somewhat smaller scale, with some additional features. If you are interested please let me know! Once again I pray you have a great Christmas season, as always we are grateful for your partnership in so many ways. Due to your prayer, financial and various other expressions of support and cooperation, we have seen God work in some remarkable ways this year. For that, the staff and I find ourselves truly grateful.

What Characterizes Effective Leadership? In an earlier article this year I used Rick Warren’s definition of leadership. According to Rick “a leader is someone people will follow.” Even though this is an accurate definition of leadership it is the skeleton without any tissue on it. There is a difference between leadership and effective, directed leadership. Leadership, to be effective must have specific traits that relate to the issues of character, wisdom, and specific proficiencies directly applicable to their responsible tasks. Leadership within the church is expected to conform to all of these traits (character, wisdom, and appropriate skills) if the ministry is to move in a positive direction within the framework of unity. In the next three issues I will attempt to discuss these three traits and how they impact ministry. All three characteristics are essential to successful leadership within the church. If not the church will struggle to grow and be a positive influence for Jesus Christ both internally and in the community without them. In this holiday season it is my prayer that we will all “…walk worthy of the calling with which you were called,” and that “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”

Isn’t it amazing how this year has flown by? The Lord has blessed us so much. Even while we have taken for granted all He has done for us throughout this year, He remains faithful. His love is never ending and His grace is sufficient. In Luke 2:11-12 we are reminded of how much God loves us; "For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 "And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger." We see our Savior born in one of the most unsanitary locations possible. Filled with animals and their filth, a place so crowded, unclean and dirty; He then makes it Holy! No matter what we have done, where we have come from, or how filthy our hearts may be, Jesus can come in and make it Holy! 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”

MINISTRY CONNECTION Our first Ministry Connection (formerly the annual meeting) was held Saturday, November 6, 2010. The experiment was a success. About 300 attended the event, which featured the ministries of about 40 of our churches and ministry partners. Those who attended were able to connect with people who are doing a good job in all sorts of ministries and thus were able to consider if such a ministry would be appropriate for them. The Disaster Relief mobile kitchen provided dinner for everyone. At the same time, Mike Studebaker was able to share about how people could be involved in Disaster Relief ministry. We want to thank CrossPointe Community Church in Fontana for hosting the event.

TRANSFORMED WAS AWESOME! Some 1,500 people attended the TRANSFORMED CONFERENCE on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Immanuel Baptist Church, Highland. It was, without a doubt, one of the most powerful experiences many of us have had the privilege of being a part of. The team of Ray Comfort, Kirk Cameron; along with their associates, gave us the motivation, tools and challenge to be bolder in personal evangelism. The Lord spoke to everyone there in a mighty way. It was all it was promised to be and we are thankful to God for the ministry of Living Waters. Thanks to Immanuel Baptist Church and their pastor, Rob Zinn for hosting the event and Mark Rush for all of his work in organizing every aspect of the conference.
