Software Engineering Competency Model (SWECOM) Public Review Extended through 30 April
LOS ALAMITOS, Calif., 22 April 2014 - The IEEE Computer Society has extended the period for submitting public review comments for the Software Engineering Competency Model (SWECOM) through Wednesday, 30 April. SWECOM describes competencies for software engineers who participate in development of and modifications to software-intensive systems. The model describes general skill areas, specific skills, and work activities for each skill, with activities specified at five levels of increasing competency. "A competent person has the skills needed to perform, at a given level of competency, the work activities assigned to her or him," said Dick Fairley, team leader for the SWECOM project. "SWECOM provides a framework that can be used by software developers, new hires, managers, curriculum designers, and staffing and training personnel to assess areas of strength and areas in need of improvement for thirteen software engineering skill areas."
