Story of Rock N’ Roll Rock music originated in USA in the 1940‘s and 1950‘s with styles mostly from blues and American folk music. It was started by teenagers who were bored with their parent’s music and wanted something fresh. They took the rhythm of blues and added electric guitars and crunchy amps. It started as something really weird for most people but transformed into something magnificent. The first ones to make it big in Rock N´ Roll were Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Little Richard and of course Elvis Presley. It has been argued that the first rock and roll record was “That’s Alright (Mama)”. n the 1962 the Beatles arrived from England with “Love me do” and everyone went insane. The biggest band of all time has made its debut. Rock had changed a little but not very much in those 10 years but in the second half of the 60’s,it was something else altogether. The hippies and the drug addicts made an apparel on the Rock scene. Rock and roll had become psychedelic. Progressive and psychedelic rock were in the lead at the end of the 60’s but with a new decade there comes a new genre. The beginning of the 70’s had the deputes of such bands as Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin, heavy metal was born. MH

The interesting field as a Film Director Film director has many responsibilities. He has to be able to interpret a motion picture from a script while guiding a big crew of technicians and actors. To be able to express the script into a movie the director has to oversee the artistic and technical elements of a film production such as directing the shooting

timetable and meeting deadlines The director requires having good group leaderships while having the ability to maintain a singular focus in all environments, including a stressful one on the film set. To become a director you have to attend school. You can take various programs and go to different

schools. Some schools offer BAdegrees, others offer a weekend course, the choice is yours depending on how much experience you want. A film director has to be very imaginative and be able to show his audience how he interprets lines from a script into a movie. It’s a challenging and fun work which is why it’s so interesting.

Sound and Music Did you know that Beethoven was the first freelance musician? -Beethoven was bornin1770. He was the first (known) composer to never have had an official court position (was never employed by the King). He was therefore the first freelance or selfemployed musician. He started his career poor but by the age of 20 he had become famous not only for his composition but also his piano skills and conducting. He often sold the same score to several publishers at the same time and frequently demanded way too much money for the simplest work. IR

Using Films to Teach Students about History Summary Eddie Redmayne is known for his part as Marius in Les Miserables says that we should be teaching children the art of making films to inspire the next generation to work in that medium. Redmayne says that we should use films to teach children about history of films and the art of film making inside the classroom.

Redmayne is supporting Into Film. This is a project that was created to encourage children to watch, make and understand films. He says that we have made theatre the real focus and we should be focusing on films aswell. He says that with new technology, as the phone, everyone could be

filmmakers. Which is why we should be more focused on teaching children the art of filmmaking. BS

copied by each part at regular intervals. Each part enters with the melody at different measures and maybe even pitches. Sometimes the melody is also played at different speeds, backwards and so on.

A cappella – is when one or more vocalists preform without any instrumental accompaniment. Falsetto – is a style of male singing where by the voice is able to reach the pitch of a female. IR

Synthesisers are killing film and TV music, say British composers -Summary Two of Britain‘s most successful film composers, Carl Davis and Christopher Gunning say that the quality of music in films and TV is getting worse as synthesised sounds are replacing the real instruments, mostly to cut costs. Davis and Gunning say a synthesised soundtrack lacks the heart and the emotion of instrumental music and that sometimes they can‘t even watch a show on TV

because the music is so bad. Of course some electronic music can work and sound beautifully but most of the time it sounds too dehumanised. Both are concerned that because film and TV producers are not ready for a big budged when it comes to the music the quality of it will drop. Most composers would jump at the chance to use a big symphony if they only had the money. They can see a big difference in how

much money producers are ready to pay now and when they were writing in the 90s. Economics has led to the use of electronic instruments in films or TV and the sad thing is, most people don‘t even notice whether a soundtrack is orchestral or synthesised. We‘ve gotten so used to it. IR Source:http://www.theguardi ectronicmusic-television

Why listening to music is the key to good health -Summary Listening to their favourite music always puts people in a good mood. But scientists have discovered that music can help more than just your mood, it has a variety of health benefits. Scientists from Austria have found this out. Here are three examples; -it helps with chronic back pain: music affects the nervous system, controlling our blood pressure and also the limbic system, controlling our feelings and emotions. When we feel pain we

become frightened, frustrated and angry making us tense up muscles in our back. Listening to music helps our bodies to relax physically and mentally helping to relive and prevent back pain. Music by Mozart or Beethoven is believed to be the best to relive pain. -it improves your workout: music can increase your endurance and distract you from any discomfort during the workout. Also of course it

boosts your moods. The best music for this is high tempo, high energy music. -it helps with memory loss: music can help people suffering from memory loss by them remembering tunes and/or songs and that way get in touch with their history. Spoken language is harder to remember than music. That’s because the part in our brain that processes music is next to the memory part. People respond best to music of their choice. IR
