o mark its 20th anniversary, Cuttn’ it Loose in Englewood’s City Center introduced its new art gallery at a reception on Feb. 28. Now, as customers get their
hair coiffed or styled, they can enjoy art of a different kind. Every few months, the salon will showcase different local artists whose work will also be available for purchase.

Theodore taking steps in the fight against digestive diseases
The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America announced that Scott Theodore, managing partner of Northwestern Mutual-Denver, will serve as the Rocky Mountain Chapter Corporate chairperson for the Take Steps Walk on June 15 at City Park. Northwestern MutualDenver will also serve as the event’s presenting sponsor in 2013. “We are delighted to have Scott’s leadership this year to help generate new revenue. Our goal is to raise $250,000,” said Matt Yeingst, director of Chapter Services for CCFA. “We need leaders in the community to help raise more money and the profile for these diseases that are often overlooked.” Known collectively as inflammatory bowel diseases, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis affects 1 in 200 people. They are painful, medically incurable diseases that attack the digestive system. Crohn’s disease may attack anywhere along the digestive track, while ulcerative colitis inflames only the large intestine (colon). Symptoms may include abdominal pain, persistent diarrhea, rectal bleeding, fever and weight loss. Many patients require numerous hospitalizations and surgery.
Most people develop the diseases between the ages of 15 and 35; however the incidence is increasing in children. “On behalf of all of us at Northwestern Mutual-Denver, we are excited to support this year’s Take Steps Walk to raise awareness for Crohn’s and colitis and help fund research,” said Theodore. “Through the sponsorship and my position as corporate chairperson, I hope to help the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation reach its fundraising goal and further its mission of helping those with digestive diseases.” Take Steps is the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America’s national walk program to raise money for critical research and awareness about these painful and unpredictable digestive diseases. The walks are family friendly festivals with activities for everyone including bands, games, activities, food and a leisurely walk through a park or community.
