Chemist’s Clinical Ingredient Research Introducing:

STEM CELL+ PEPTIDE SERUM SUBJECTIVE STUDY PRO-COLL-ONE® PEPTIDE IN COMPARISON WITH PALMITOYL PENTAPEPTIDE-3 & .075% RETINOL After 56 days of twice daily applications, PRO-COLL-ONE= formulated at 2% was generally seen as more effective than the placebo. 78% of the volunteers using PRO-COLL-ONE+ reported that their crow’s feet were smoother compared to the placebo group (P=0.0761). Compared to Palmitoyl Penatpeptide-3 formulated at 3% and retinol formulated at 0.075%, and tested in the same conditions, PRO-COLL-ONE+ was judged by the volunteers to be comparable to these two reference molecules. In addition, more than 90% of them considered that the formula containing PRO-COLL-ONE+ is an anti-wrinkles product (P=0.0016).

THE CAPACITY TO BUILD NEW TISSUES.

Stem Cells (SC)

Epidermal stem cells were obtained using the novel Progenitor Cell Targeting. They were then cultured for different numbers of passages with and without 0.01 % Malus Domestica stem cell extract. Afterwards, their capacity to form a stratified epidermis was evaluated. From the fresh epidermal stem cells, two kinds of cells were tested: n “young” epidermal stem cells obtained from early passage (passage 5) n “old” epidermal stem cells obtained from late passage (passage 14)

Young stem cells

n

The Malus Domestica stem cell extract was added to the culture from early passage. Results showed that: n “old” epidermal stem cells lost their capacity to build a 3D epidermis n but, if treated with Malus Domestica stem cell extract from their early passage, “old” epidermal stem cells retain their capacity to form a stratified epidermis

Primary human melanocytes (HEMn-DP) cell cultures were used to compare the skin lightening performance of Hydroquinone, Arbutin, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (MAP) and Kojic Acid to that of CHROMABRIGHT™ at the same concentration (10μM) for a period of 20 days. As the graph above demonstrates, CHROMABRIGHT™ exhibited a better depigmenting effect than MAP, Kojic Acid and Arbutin, and a had similar efficacy to Hydroquonone.

Skin brightening effect on human volunteers

20 Asian female volunteers aged 18 to 46 used a cream containing 0.1% CHROMABRIGHT™ twice daily during 60 days The volunteers applied a placebo cream on one side of the face and the cream containing CHROMABRIGHT™ on the other side The brightening effect was instrumentally evaluated by means of a Chromameter CR-300 Measurements were taken before application, after 30 days and after 60 days of treatment n

COSMECEUTICAL ANTI-OXIDANT TEA EXTRACTS TREMENDOUS INTEREST AND RESEARCH IS CURRENTLY BEING FOCUSED ON ANTIOXIDANTS AND THEIR VALUE IN HELPING TO REVERSE AND PREVENT FREE RADICAL DAMAGE IN THE SKIN By definition, free radicals are highly unstable oxygen molecules with unpaired electrons that must seek other molecules with stable electrons to achieve their own stabilization. Attaching to the stable electrons of other molecules accomplishes stability, but as a result the “good” molecule is then transformed by the free radical into another free radical whose function and shape is now altered. Free radicals work quickly. In mere seconds, one free radical can trigger a chain reaction that produces thousands of additional free radicals. The damage caused by the free radicals can range from cell damage to the ultimate of cell death. Such cellular breakdown manifests itself superficially in lines, wrinkles, dry skin, loss of elasticity, and skin discoloration. On a deeper level, free radical destruction can substantially destroy the collagen and elastin support system, degrade DNA, damage vital enzymes, impair critical immune functions, and cause general tissue deterioration. Certain substances termed as antioxidants have the capability of interrupting or even preventing this cellular onslaught. Another term for antioxidants is free radical scavengers. The term scavenger refers to their ability to provide electrons so that the free radical can attach itself to the antioxidant electron and be rendered harmless before it can attach itself to a so called “healthy” radical and begin the destructive chain reaction. There is scientific research showing that tea extracts have a variety of beneficial properties when used topically.

GLYCOLIC ACID GLYCOLIC ACID KNOWN AS AN “ALPHA HYDROXY ACID” OR “AHA’S” ARE A FAMILY OF ACIDS THAT OCCUR NATURALLY IN VARIOUS FRUITS AND FOODS Glycolic acid, found in sugar cane, is the AHA that has received the most attention medically because of all the AHA’s, it has the smallest molecule. This small molecular weight enables glycolic acid to penetrate more effectively and to ultimately bring about the most dramatic and beneficial changes of all the AHA’s, often collectively referred to as fruit acids. Among other things, glycolic acid loosens the “glue-like” attachments, or cellular cement, that are characteristic of many skin conditions such as acne, photo damage (environmental aging), and hyperpigmentation. This non-invasive lifting of the cells in the stratum corneum enables glycolic acid to act as a phenomenal resurfacing agent that can immensely improve the appearance of the skin. It has even proven to be a valuable tool in reducing the depth of deep wrinkles and acne scarring.

As physicians and researchers have developed a greater interest in glycolic acid, medical studies have revealed that glycolic acid stimulates collagen, increases epidermal volume and even acts as a powerful antioxidant and free radical inhibitor. Tests also illustrate how glycolic acid acts as a delivery agent when combined with other beneficial ingredients or medications, thus potentiating the desired results. The Institut’ DERMed alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) skin care system is based on research resulting in products with lower pH levels than similar products, giving you the ability to deliver beautiful results for reducing the appearance of hyperpigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles and acne breakout. AHA’s also limit transepidermal water loss, thereby improving the skin’s moisture-binding ability. Skin that retains more water becomes smoother, firmer and younger-looking. A clinical study that involved 20 patients (13 were women)with moderate to severe facial wrinkles with an average age 44 years were treated with a Glycolic Peel every other week for six weeks. Each treatment involved applying alpha-hydroxy acid to only one side of the face. The study found that a significant reduction of facial alterations within two weeks of the first treatment, and patients continued to see improvements from follow-up visits a month after the treatments had finished. At the time of that first posttreatment visit, 94 percent of patients were judged to have had good or fair improvements. The side effects from the Glycolic Peel were minimal. The most common of these included redness, peeling and scaling.

IN CONCLUSION: Glycolic Acid is frequently used by physicians and skin care specialists to induce light skin peels, which help treat fine lines and wrinkles, acne and uneven texture and coloration. This mild acid removes a very thin layer of skin, which in turn promotes the growth of new, smoother skin.

MATRIXYL™3000

IN VITRO TESTS: Study to determine ability of fibroblasts incubated for 72 hours with MatrixylTM3000 (1,3,and 5%) to stimulate synthesis of extracellular matrix components. Stimulation of gene expression Study to evaluate regulation of dermal and epidermal genes by matrikines present in MatrixylTM3000, using DNA-Array techniques on a reconstructed epidermis and a fibroblast culture.

Stimulation of synthesis (%)

Matrixyl™3000 contains two matrikines™, Pal-GHK and Pal-GQPR which act in synergy to restore and maintain skin’s youthful appearance. Matrikines which are messengers of cutaneous restructuration and repair. They activate the neosynthesis of extracellular matrix macromecules providing a visible anti-wrinkle result. As messenger molecules, matrikines™ are capable of regulating cell activities. They interact with specific receptors to activate certain genes involved in the process of extracellular matrix renewal and cell proliferation. With age these mechanisms become progressively weaker.
