Mr Teo Chee Hean

Message from Deputy Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs

The world economy is facing significant challenges. The Euro-zone crisis, economic uncertainties in the US, as well as slower economic growth in China and India, will undoubtedly have an impact on Singapore’s economy. This year, we expect Singapore’s GDP growth to be between 1.5 and 2.5 percent. In this challenging economic climate, businesses will need to put in additional effort to seek out opportunities. The Asian market still offers many opportunities. Our chambers of commerce, and industry associations, can play a bigger role to help Singapore-based companies seek out these opportunities especially as they venture overseas. It is heartening to know that the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) is looking beyond China and India, and towards other markets in the region, such as Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Indonesia. Besides the services that it provides to its members, SICCI also works closely with the government by providing valuable feedback on economic policies, including its members’ concerns and suggestions. This in turn helps government agencies to develop or refine policies so that they better meet the needs of the business community. To recognise and honour the spirit of entrepreneurship in the Indian business community in Singapore, the SICCI-DBS Singapore Indian Entrepreneur Awards have been given out since 2004. The Awards recognise the hard work and dedication of Indian entrepreneurs in driving their businesses forward and achieving success. I hope their success serves as inspiration not just to other Indian businesses, but also to the wider Singapore business community. I congratulate SICCI on its 88th Anniversary, and hope that it will continue to work with its members, the government and other partners, to contribute to our economic growth and development in Singapore for many more years to come.

Message from

Mr R Narayanamohan

Chairman, Board of Directors Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry

The Chamber will continue to work closely with the relevant government bodies and other chambers and business associations to further contribute to the growth of the Singapore economy and to continue to build the brand name of Singapore businesses and Singapore as an investment destination. The Chamber has been particularly interested in reaching out to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to understand their challenges, and propose relevant assistance mechanisms to address their concerns. It has been consistently helping these businesses to grow within Singapore and, especially in recent years, taking them abroad. In fact in just the last two years, we have seen our membership double and activities and programmes triple in number. In order to recognise and encourage the tireless efforts, vision, talent and success of Indian entrepreneurs who have shown great potential, each year the Chamber presents the SICCI-DBS Singapore India Entrepreneur Awards (SIEA). This year, too, we are proud to present these awards to those entrepreneurial gems who personify the success and achievements of the Indian

Message from Vice-chairman, Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry Chairman, SICCI-DBS SIEA Committee 2012

They are an important platform for SICCI as it fulfils its commitment towards unearthing and presenting enterprising entrepreneurs. Through the Awards, we showcase leading Indian entrepreneurs in Singapore, thereby highlighting the “never-say-die” spirit of the Indian community. At the same time, the Awards inspire other Singaporean Indians to undertake the entrepreneurship path. Each year, we witness impressive entries from outstanding Indian entrepreneurs. This year is no different. We have also introduced some changes to this year’s Awards. The “Family Business Award” category introduced last year with the intention of presenting a unique opportunity to recognise the dedication, tenacity and success of Indian family businesses in Singapore, has been removed. SICCI realised that certain issues that are unique to these businesses – like the day-to-day running of operations, issues of succession and commercial pressures etc. – were preventing family businesses from applying for this category. Nonetheless, SICCI will continue to present the SICCI-DBS

There are also many things going for Singapore. The country’s strategic location and strong economic links position us well as a bridge between China and India. Our familiarity with cultures and business practices of India and China also give Singapore an edge when it comes to facilitating investments between the two. On our part, as Singapore’s biggest bank, DBS has the distinct advantage of having a growing presence in the three key areas of growth – South Asia, Greater China and Southeast Asia. We are committed to supporting businesses in the region. In fact, building a leading vegional SME franchise is one of our key strategic priorities. We believe we have the wherewithal to serve SME clients well, given our strong balance sheet, well-honed credit skills and deep understanding of the region that comes with being born and bred in Asia. Given our commitment to the SME business, and in recognition of the importance of the Indian business community, we are pleased to be sponsoring the SICCI-DBS Singapore Indian Entrepreneur Awards. For the past 88 years, the Chamber has been acting as a bridge between the government and Indian businesses, bringing the views and voices of its members at pertinent platforms so that these may be taken into consideration during policy formulations by the government. SICCI has been encouraging Indian businesses to grow by taking advantage of Singapore’s economic position and government’s initiatives. The SICCI-DBS Singapore Indian Entrepreneur Awards are an effort in this direction.

About the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry

Established in 1924, the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SICCI) has matured in size and stature over the years to become a vibrant and progressive organisation with a network of partners that spans the globe. Celebrating its 88th anniversary this year, SICCI today represents a significant membership base of close to 1,000; with members coming from a wide spectrum of businesses and industries. SICCI is one of Singapore’s most respected and active commercial organisations, providing a platform for exchange of information, promotion of enterprise, development of commercial opportunities as well as a forum for constructive interaction with the government and the broader business community. Located in Singapore’s central business district, SICCI conducts its operations out of its modest but elegant building which is staffed by a dedicated and professional secretariat team. Offering members a wide range of services and benefits, SICCI plays a well-garnered role in meeting the business needs of its members and the wider corporate community. SICCI’s subsidiaries – SICCI-Trade Match, Enterprise Development Centre@SICCI and SICCI-Institute of Business – combine to actively promote the development of its members and provide the necessary networking opportunities and linkages for its members to grow their businesses and operations locally and globally. In today’s unpredictable economic climate, SICCI has remained proactive in its efforts to help Singapore businesses tap the growing Asian market. These markets hold much prospect for SICCI’s members and for Singapore. The Chamber provides the necessary linkages and connections to its members in helping them expand their businesses both locally and internationally. It also serves as the community’s spokesperson at various private and public-sector platforms in Singapore so that views of Indian businesses are taken into consideration during policy formation. Apart from its role in the business environment, it is an exemplary corporate citizen, playing a leading role in the promotion of social welfare and in Singapore’s nation-building. Given its dynamism and foresight, SICCI will continue to progress and build on its strong and prominent position in Singapore. More details on SICCI can be found at www.sicci.com.

Message From The Sponsors Mr. Lim Chu Chong

Managing Director and Head DBS SME Banking, Institutional Banking Group

Mr Mustaq Ahmad

Managing Director Mohamed Mustafa & Samsuddin Co Pte Ltd Mustafa has been an example of Indian entrepreneurship in Singapore since 1971. It is only natural that we encourage and celebrate Indian businesses thriving here as well. And we are pleased to do so by supporting the SICCI-DBS Singapore Indian Entrepreneur Awards 2011. The Awards celebrate entrepreneurs who are eager to take risks and explore the path lesser travelled. These entrepreneurs have also made relevant social contributions to the wider community as an essential part of their business philosophy. I congratulate them and applaud the finalists on reaching this far. They represent the very best of talent and success that the Indian business community in Singapore has to offer. I would like to commend the Singapore India Chamber of Commerce & Industry on its continuous endeavour to recognise exemplary and promising entrepreneurs within the Indian community in Singapore. .

DBS is honoured to be the main sponsor of the SICCI-DBS Singapore Indian Entrepreneur Awards 2012. At DBS, banking the SME segment is one of our key strategic priorities. The Awards recognise entrepreneurs who demonstrate leadership, entrepreneurial resilience, innovation and corporate social responsibility, and these are the traits that we at DBS are committed to. On the innovation front, this year, DBS has enhanced our corporate Internet banking platform with breakthrough functionalities and unrivalled user-friendliness. Equipped with a single security device, SMEs can now access multiple services and enjoy a broader suite of cash management, trade finance and treasury products (as well as many services) all in one-stop. We were also the first last year to implement an integrated supply chain financing programme for the Singapore retail sector. This programme helps SMEs unlock trapped working capital funds from their sales receivables and strengthen their cashflow w position. We hope these offerings will provide value to our SME customers. On the CSR front, DBS is supporting the development of social entrepreneurs in a myriad of ways – by raising the profile of SEs in the marketplace, providing seed funding or low-cost banking, and procuring their goods and services. Our banking package for SEs is the only one available in Singapore and was recently enhanced to make it even more attractive to customers. All these initiatives, coupled with our strong regional footprint across our six key markets of Singapore, Hong Kong, China, India, Indonesia and Taiwan position us well to provide crossborder banking and financing support to our SME customers with regional needs. I would also like to take this opportunity to reiterate the importance of the Indian business community to DBS and we are committed to supporting this segment. To all the winners, all of us at DBS are proud of you and salute you for your entrepreneurial spirit!

Mr Say Kwee Neng

Mr Lakshmanan Gurunathan

Congratulations to all the finalists for the SICCI-DBS Singapore Indian Entrepreneur Awards (SIEA) 2012. Being nominated is a well-deserved recognition, certainly a fruition of your enterprise but not the end of the journey. Performance Motors Limited (PML) is very proud to once again extend our support as a Gold sponsor to further this spirit. We hope our support will strengthen the highly commendable efforts of the Singapore India Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SICCI) in setting up this platform to recognise and develop even more budding entrepreneurs. PML was born in 1979 and over a long journey of grit and hardwork, we have established ourselves as the leading car retailer in Singapore. Some of you started your business with nothing more than a brilliant idea and may I applaud you for having faith that your idea will bring greater value to a wider community. There is no guarantee for success in business but I believe that in every entrepreneur there is an inherent ability to overcome adversity. I wish you the very best in all your endeavours.

Laksel EPS Technologies Pte Ltd is proud to associate with the Singapore India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) as a Silver Sponsor to bring to you the SICCI-DBS SIEA 2012. As a winner in the 2011 edition, it is indeed a privilege to be associated with a prestigious awards ceremony which recognises talent. Every entrepreneur is a winner in his own way. SICCI is doing a commendable job by identifying the individuals and providing a valuable platform for recognition at a national and international level. It serves as an inspiration and a dream for all entrepreneurs. A pat on the back at the right time gives the impetus to surge forward. All the finalists have shown that when talent meets opportunity with the right amount of appetite for risk, it can conquer insurmountable challenges. It is the sheer determination, perseverance and commitment of these individuals which have put them in the spotlight. The SICCI-DBS SIEA Awards 2012 is the first and fitting port of call for these spirited entrepreneurs who have set their sails in their chosen direction. Laksel EPS Technologies Pte Ltd wishes SICCI the best on its 88th anniversary and congratulates all finalists for their achievements and for the journey ahead.

By sponsoring the SICCI-DBS SIEA Awards, Universal Success wishes to salute the entrepreneurs who are being represented and felicitated today. Entrepreneurs and their dreams are the gateway to the future. We celebrate all the obstacles and seemingly hopeless odds they have had to overcome to reach where they are today, and wish them all the best in their life and in all their future endeavours. Universal Success Enterprises wishes SICCI the best on its 88th anniversary and congratulates all finalists.
