Author Event: Bonnie Greer [Ages 16+] Tuesday 18 May 6.30pm - 8.00pm Meet celebrated playwright, writer and broadcaster Bonnie Greer who will be reading from and talking about her latest books ‘Entropy’ and ‘Obama Music’. Bonnie is a novelist and critic and makes regular TV appearances on ‘Late Review’ and ‘Question Time’.

Turning the Pages [Ages18+] 18 May and 15 June 6.00pm - 7.00pm Love reading? Join in our free monthly bookgroup and meet up with like minded book lovers.

Lights Camera Action [Ages 18+] Monday 28 June 6.30pm - 7.30pm Have you got a film script in your head? Bafta and Oscar nominated writer Chris Fallon will be giving a talk about writing for the screen. This event is free and open to everyone.

Family Week [Ages 0-5] Take part in our special read aloud story and rhyme time to celebrate National Family Week.

A unique opportunity linking students of Bethnal Green Technology College with our Golden Time participants, assisting with the use of computers as well as sharing stories of common interest. And for Adult Learners’ Week we have free taster sessions for all from a variety of our Lifelong Learning courses, including massage and drumming. Local organisations, including Skillsmatch, Employment Solutions & Tower Hamlets College, will be offering free advice and guidance on employment and training opportunities.

Celebrating East London History [Families] Wednesday 16 June 11.00am -1.00pm Join our seminar discussion with a special guest speaker and share your life experiences of the East End: history, migration, food and culture. 8

Meet Your Local Authors [Adults] Thursday 17 June 12.00pm - 2.00pm Local authors, Steph Daniels (Bendy Elephant) and Kia Abdullah (Life, Love and Assimilation) will be reading from and discussing their books. Join us for an exciting and entertaining day.

Celebrating the East End [Adults] Thursday 24 June 10.00am - 1.00pm Come and enjoy some of the best traditions of the East End – join in the fun with Pearly Queen Doreen Golding, who will be talking about this continuing tradition. You will also be able to reminisce with local archivist Malcolm Barr-Hamilton, who will introduce displays from the Local History Archive.

Local History Archive exhibition [All ages] Thursday 24 June - Sunday 25 July An exhibition from the Tower Hamlets Local History Library and Archives showcasing the rich variety of material available for everyone about the East End past and present.

Share a Story Fun Day [All ages] Saturday 29 May 11.00am - 4.00pm To celebrate National Share-aStory Month we’re having a whole day of storytelling activities! We’ll be having a storytelling session (11-11.45am), showing the fantastic movie Bedtime Stories (12-2pm) and making mini puppet theatres (2.15-4pm). Come along to share in the story with us!

We Love Michael Recycle! [All ages] Tuesday 1 June 2.15pm - 3.45pm We’ll be making posters inspired by the fantastic children’s book ‘Michael Recycle’ about how to keep our planet beautiful, so if you’re passionate about keeping it ‘Clean and Green’ then come along! All the work will form part of a display in the children’s library to celebrate World Environment Day on June 5.

The Family Story [Ages 5-12] Wednesday 2 June 2.15pm - 4.15pm Come along for a storytelling session followed by a workshop to become an author and create a story based on your very own family!

Idea Store Whitechapel Special Events Alien Art Attack! [Ages 5-12] Thursday 3 June Come and show us your artistic flair in our painting, drawing and collage session. Send your mind to outer space and design a new alien life form!

Movie Time: Fantastic Mr Fox [All ages, Cert: PG] Friday 4 June Join us for family film fun on the big screen and watch the adaptation of the classic Roald Dahl book.

Local and London History Special Event: Dee Gordon ‘Voices of Stepney’ Book Launch [Adults] Saturday 5 June 2.30pm Dee Gordon’s new book is the unique and fascinating result of many conversations with people who lived and worked in Stepney during the 1950s and ‘60s. Anyone who knows Stepney, as a resident or as a visitor, will be amused and entertained, surprised and moved by these stories, which capture the unique spirit of the East End.

Book Group: Local and London History Special Graham Greene, ‘The End of the Affair’ [Adults]

Thursday 10 June 6.30pm - 8.00pm Join us for our Book Group discussion of Greene’s seminal wartime romance, set in London during and just after World War II.

Young Adults/Teen Author Event: Rachel Caine, ‘The Morganville Vampire Series: Kiss of Death’ [Ages 12+] Wednesday 16 June 4.30pm - 6.30pm Rachel Caine is the international bestselling author of thirty novels, including the New York Times and USA Today bestselling ‘Morganville Vampires’ young adult series. Bethnal Green Library Special Events Art Exhibition Monday 24 - Friday 29 May The upstairs space at Bethnal Green Library will be hosting an exhibition by artists Sarah McNulty, Lucy Conochie, Kieran Drury, Alaena Turner and Sol Archer. A mixed-media exhibition of paintings, photographs, objects and projections.
