Welcome to the fourteenth edition of The Ideal Bathroom Magazine. We are already well into the New Year and signs of an improved economy give rise to hopes for a more profitable year for the bathroom industry. 2014 sees the KBB Show in Birmingham, an event which generally creates an air of excitement and optimism with manufacturers using the exhibition to launch new products and ideas. In this issue of The Ideal Bathroom, we consider the future for showrooms in competition with internet traders, we review our new e-commerce site which will be an important communication facility for those customers who desire wider access to their dealings with us, we present this year’s ‘An Ideal World’ campaign with its programme of prize giveaways and we introduce our new charity partner Macmillan Cancer Support. Contributions from our supplier partners include Ideal Standard in our Experts in Marketing feature and our Company Insight. Keith Boad of Ideal Standard is our “Who Is …?” interviewee and of course we have our usual roundup of news, views and opinions. We hope this makes interesting reading for you and wish you all the best for a successful trading year in 2014.

It is the first WC to offer wall-hung and back-to-wall options which do not require a concealed cistern, facilitating ease of installation and creating an ideal solution for small spaces. Water enters the tank and then air is introduced by a revolutionary blower which has been developed in collaboration with Fluidmaster. DirectFlush Ever striving to develop innovative solutions for the bathroom, Villeroy & Boch’s DirectFlush toilet is like no other on the market; it has been designed to be as functional as it is aesthetically pleasing, boasting a perfect design for the highest degree of cleanliness. Thanks to the uniquely open and fully-glazed flushing rim, DirectFlush toilets can be cleaned quicker than a standard toilet bowl, where the flushing rim is fully concealed. While toilets with no rim can be easy to clean, the water flow for flushing usually is not ideal. But the DirectFlush sets new standards in ecology and economy. It features a unique water flow system for truly innovative flushing technology. This modern flushing technology creates the best flushing effect with minimal water consumption – it is the first Villeroy & Boch WC with a flushing volume of just 3/4.5 litres. Best of all, the open rim still guarantees a splash-free flow of water.

Mira Flight Shower Trays – Now up to 50% Cheaper Mira has dropped the prices of its market-leading Flight range of shower trays by up to 50% thanks to savings resulting from a £6m investment in a new stateof-the-art factory in Hull. Advanced production techniques, economies of scale and improved logistics have all contributed to cutting costs and Mira is sharing the dividend with installers by knocking up to half off the price. This means installers already fitting Flight still get all the benefits of these great trays while being more competitive in quotations. What’snew | the latest news from ideal bathrooms John Bagshaw’s industry column With us now being well and truly in to the New Year, we ask Ideal Bathrooms’ Managing Director, John Bagshaw, to share his thoughts on the year to come, our new e-commerce website and his predictions for 2014. Q. 2013 proved something of a false dawn for the bathroom industry after a promising start. With the Chancellor continuing to target growth (although still seeking austerity) is this now the time for the bathroom business to return to boom? A: I’m not so sure we are back to boom conditions, but increased house building has got to kickstart the chain of movement in housing and increased RMI which follows from this. For 2014 I am certainly more optimistic that we will see some growth whilst still not to the heights of business before the recession. Q. Showrooms are coming under pressure from internet traders. You have introduced a new e-commerce site. Is this a clue that Ideal Bathrooms will be doing what some other distributors are doing in trading directly with the consumer? A: Absolutely not! The principle behind our development of the E-Commerce website is a b2b service for our customers, to give them greater choice in how they do business with us. The new website is a more sophisticated tool, offering 24/7 access to our full range of services. It’s the way the modern world works and fits perfectly with Ideal Bathrooms’ philosophy of customers being able to do business with us as easily and efficiently as possible. Q. How will the new website benefit your showroom customers? A: Our web activities are in line with today’s needs. Customers are looking for additional services and those who are familiar with the web now have another option as to how they interact with us, in addition to the telephone. The site is created with flexibility in mind to suit their information needs and to give 24/7 availability. Our initial launch has been very positively received by those customers who volunteered to test the site because they have recognised that it is a modern communications platform to help them in their businesses.

John Bagshaw Ideal Bathrooms MD

The bar of excellence has been pushed higher and showrooms must not be complacent as competition is fierce. Showrooms must offer better value and personal services including supply and fit which will become more necessary. They should be able to advise on and supply turn-key solutions beyond the bathroom suite to include lighting, soft furnishings etc. People tend to buy what they see, so showrooms need to help them with design and trend advice and need to create differentiation by being seen to offer something better. This will continue to be difficult as the multiples continue to develop their offering. Showrooms will find it very important to offer design consultancy as well as good display, complete with wall coverings flooring etc. and will then reap the benefits of the time they spend with customers. Ideal Bathrooms is well aware there is a responsibility to help our customers grow as our customers’ success is reflected in our own. Q. In this issue, our Market Focus looks at showrooms and the threat from the internet. How important do you see the independent showrooms as a route to market for the main bathroom brands? A: The importance of showroom space cannot be overestimated; in short, they are vital. However showrooms must evolve to face competition from the internet. They must ensure displays are excellent and create ideas. They must be open when their customers want them to be open including late nights and weekends. I believe there is an opportunity for showrooms to interconnect with other local services such as estate agents to create a network which can take customers through the whole process from acquiring a house to refurbishing it - working together to help those facing the disruption of moving into new homes and carrying out the necessary home improvements. Working closely with owners and landlords, and others in the wider home improvement sector, should raise standards of living and comfort, which people will increasingly demand as the economy picks up again

Q. The internet is just one way in which the industry is changing. What other changes do you foresee in the near future? e.g. home improvement centres.

Local communities have tended to break down and working together to provide turn-key solutions not only helps individual customers but is also good for the local community.

A: People will look for something different from the offering from DIY multiples. Showrooms offer personal service, advice and design facilities for different budgets. The differentiation with showrooms is their ability to issue individual and better advice.

The industry needs to look at doing things differently in order to progress.

Infocus | Ideal Standard

Ideal Standard reveals findings of spy-in-the bathroom study For most people it’s a sanctuary from which even partners and family members are excluded. And yet, for two weeks, nineteen people in four countries agreed to let Ideal Standard, Europe’s leading bathroom specialist, track their every brush, splash and flush in the name of research.

In a first for bathroom research, prototype motion mapping technology was installed in bathrooms across Europe to monitor bathroom behaviours. By adapting depth sensors to provide accurate 3D tracking of the human body and using two sensors in each bathroom, Ideal Standard has been able to build a detailed picture of how people actually use their bathroom space. Behind the data lie some fascinating glimpses into family life: the parents who seek refuge from their families with long baths and showers; the bathrooms that double up as laundries and dressing rooms; the flatmates forced to do their ablutions in unison. According to the findings, 40% of us crave a new bathroom, but interestingly, for the most part, it’s not a bigger space that we lust after; just a space that better meets our needs. Families from Germany, France, Italy and the UK participated in the study, representing a variety of households, from single occupancy to multi-generational homes.

18 • THE IDEAL BATHROOM Issue 14

The results of the quantitative and qualitative studies will be analysed over the coming months but already some fascinating insights are emerging which will help Ideal Standard and its design teams innovate for the future. The study was conducted because Ideal Standard’s product ranges span every aspect of bathroom design, and we’ve always tried to understand how a bathroom works in totality and to think about the ergonomics of the bathroom to help our customers get the most out it. “The bathroom is a unique space in the home,” said Dr John Curran, social anthropologist and author of the study. “It stands out from other rooms in the home because it has to meet an array of needs.” “However, the design of bathrooms – the storage, fittings, aesthetic and the variation in size – means that meeting all the needs of household members becomes a challenge, all the more so in light of rapid demographic change which is seeing a rise in single person, all adult and multi-generational households and households with older people.”

Infocus | Ideal Standard

1 - Some of the findings

Parental retreat For parents, the bathroom represents something of a refuge from family life. Our quantitative data shows that adults in family homes spend longer in the bathroom than average and take longer baths, especially when the children in the house are under five Competing uses Whilst the bathroom can represent a place of retreat for parents, this is the group least likely to be satisfied with their current bathroom set up. They struggle with the multiple, sometimes conflicting, uses the space demands – spa, pharmacy, laundry, children’s playroom – and they are most likely to complain about clutter and lack of storage space.

The bathroom reclaimed

Older people living alone or as a couple were most likely to be satisfied with their bathroom, suggesting a sense of reclaimed space once children leave home. This group is able to create the largest storage space in their bathroom, despite the fact that the space needs to serve fewer people than average.

.Hot showers and cold baths

A composite analysis of all the homes in our motion mapping study suggests that baths are under used and that more and more people rely on showers for their daily bathing routine. It may be that we are coming to a time when having a bath in the main family bathroom is no longer a non-negotiable essential.

Have couples got it right?

More than any other group, couples are able to keep their bathroom spaces tidy and ordered. This may be a result of having the incentive of keeping the bathroom space tidy for the other person while not having the disruption that comes with family life – a perfect storm!

Who spends longest in the bathroom?

• The average person’s morning bathroom routine (shower, toilet, basin) takes 25m 59s. • Brits have by far the quickest morning routine at 19m 42s – nearly eight minutes faster than the Germans (27m 35s), Italians (27m 33s) and French (27m 11s) • Women spend an average of 1m 13s longer on the standard bathroom routine than men • There’s nothing to choose between the genders when it comes to bathing – of those who have a bath only 36% are choosing it over a shower as part of the daily routine • Under 30s are spending an average 1m 39s longer on the toilet than over 55s – and they’re much more likely to be checking Facebook than reading a book • UK households use their baths the least – 33% of those with a separate bath use it just a couple

Adults only

For people living in all adult homes – for example students sharing a flat or families where the children have returned after university – the bathroom is most likely to be viewed as a purely functional space. This is the group that tends to shun long baths and relies instead on the shower. The bathroom is most likely to double up as a laundry in these homes.

2 - More about the motion mapping research

To monitor bathroom behaviours, and in a first for bathroom research, we created a prototype human movement tracker. By adapting depth sensors to provide accurate 3D tracking of the human body and using two sensors in each bathroom, we were able to track up to four people at a time at each location. The use of multiple sensors also ensured that we could track people in non-uniform spaces. The data we were able to gather comprised details of the position and rotation of 22 key joints in the human body. This data was tagged with a time code and a unique identifier per country and machine.

Whois | an insight into the market’s leading figures Keith Boad - Managing Director responsible for UK, Ireland, Iberia and Scandinavia. Keith Boad is the UK Cluster Managing Director at Ideal Standard International and is responsible for the growth of the UK, Ireland, Iberia and Scandinavia.

Business

Personal

How did you get into the bathroom business? I joined Ideal Standard 4 years ago as MD, after a career in marketing and sales with the likes of Reckitt and Colman, Whitbread and ICI. I joined two ex colleagues from ICI, already working at Ideal Standard for the opportunity to run the business, having previously had functional responsibility. What were your first impressions of the bathroom industry? The industry is complex with many channels and categories, making the route to market very challenging and costly. I felt that it was an industry that needed to change and adapt to the environment of declining markets, not growth. What made you join Ideal Standard? There was an opportunity to wake up a sleeping giant and to develop a large business cross functionally. I welcomed the chance to bring new ways of working to the Company, with the opportunity to personally make a difference, improving sales and profitability. Who has had the biggest influence on your career so far? My sales director when I was 24. He gave me the chance to run a multi-million pound channel, delivering own label to the multiple grocers. This was where I got the taste for running business cross functionally; it has driven my career to date.

If you could have a business mentor who would it be? It would have to be Richard Branson for his unrelenting focus on developing the Virgin brand across many different business sectors. What has Ideal Standard been up to recently? Ideal Standard is returning to KBB after 10 years with a new brand identity and retail strategy. We will be unveiling new exclusive products for the showroom channel. How do you feel the industry has changed in the last 10 years? There is increased competition from imports. Manufacturers are becoming desperate for sales due to market decline and hence fierce price competition. The economic climate and downfall in the construction industry is driving consolidation and cost saving initiatives, as opposed to investment for growth. What initiatives could the Government introduce to help the industry? The government policy of supporting first time buyers is sound. The current growth predictions, along with low interest rates are good market initiatives.

Keith at the 2012 Olympics

Describe yourself in 3 words. Driven, determined, dedicated What are your driving forces? Corporate and personal success, along with people and business development – never stand still or you will get caught up and overtaken! What was the last music album you bought or downloaded? Muse, The 2nd Law. Favourite film or book? Why? Lee Child, ‘Nothing to lose’. This is a gripping read! He is a skilled and descriptive writer that takes the reader back in time. What is your most prized possession? My children Which super hero would you most like to be? Superman! He represents the best attributes of humanity and the ultimate force for good. His selfless attitude, compassionate demeanour and desire to do the right thing are all traits we could learn from and aspire to in real life. What do you do in your spare time? Gym, watching football, finance, along with reading. I also enjoy visiting the theatre and restaurants. Most admired brand (other than Ideal Standard) and why? Stella Artois due to the brands reassuringly expensive marketing, its amazing brand awareness and commercial strength. What would your dream job be other than your present one? Manager of FC Barcelona. Great city, great job, great sport and fantastic weather! THE IDEAL BATHROOM Issue 14 • 21

Ideal standard

Product Innovation At Ideal Standard we believe new product introductions need to be innovative, design driven and provide real solutions for everyone. We consider the user to be at the centre of everything we design and we constantly think about how products are going to be used in everyday life. User centred design is at the heart of Ideal Standard’s approach to product development underpinned by a deep understanding of bathroom ergonomics. The company’s main objective is to help people create their ideal bathroom, whatever that means to them.

Lets take a closer look at some of the product innovations brought to market over the last 12 months that span the complete bathroom environment through Easybox showering, Blue technology brassware and Concept.

Bathrooms need to meet a variety of needs in the modern household. On any one day the bathroom may have to be an oasis of relaxation, a room for invigoration, a space for transformation and even somewhere to play.

Already achieving phenomenal success within the marketplace and being adopted by the consumer and professional, these product innovations have received industry accolades for design and innovation.

Easybox Slim

Easybox Slim

A revolution in concealed showers. Winner of the Housebuilder Product Award Best Kitchens and Bathrooms product Easybox Slim adds to Ideal Standard’s extensive range of shower controls. It is a shallow depth built-in thermostatic mixer, designed to fit into drywall partitions with an internal cavity depth of 43mm. The slender dimensions of Easybox Slim mean it is perfect for fitting in the shallow wall cavities of new build houses as well as being suitable for refurbishment projects in older property.

Easybox Slim is available as either a shower mixer or bath shower mixer with the option of a round or square faceplate to suit any bathroom style. The faceplate features separate flow and temperature controls with a safety stop set at 40°C with manual override. Additional adjustable maximum temperatures stops can be set at installation to limit temperature to 40, 43, 45 or 50°C which protect against use from accidental scalding.

Easybox Slim is quick and easy to install. It is delivered as a preassembled box construction which provides quick and effective installation.

The shower mixer is suitable for high and low pressure systems and incorporates Ideal Standard’s 3/4’’ ceramic disc flow control to maximise flow rate.

Concept Space

Blue Technology Brassware

Robin Levien comments: “Concept Space brings the idea of A Beautiful Use of Space to smaller bathrooms. With the average UK bathroom no bigger than a king size bed, this big thinking for small spaces solves a real problem for consumers.”

Developed with sustainability in mind, the fittings showcase IdealBlue technology - a revolutionary system engineered to use less water and energy. The amount of water held in the tap when closed is reduced by 80% meaning less water is wasted. The low water content reduces the time taken to achieve the selected water temperature by seven seconds, saving both water and the energy to heat it.

Revealing infinite possibilities. Winner of the Product Innovation Award Designer Bathrooms & Kitchens Awards 2013

The collection combines ceramics, including short projection basins and compact WCs, and baths that are cleverly designed to fit into small or awkward spaces. The range is all about making the best use of available space, whether it’s behind or above the WC, below the basin or anywhere else in the bathroom. Wall hung and modular units help create a spacious, sophisticated and contemporary look. Units are available in up to six finishes and are designed with minimal projection to make bathrooms look and feel spacious. Concept Space basins can be used wall mounted, with semi pedestal, full pedestal or furniture. They have a short 380mm projection, which is a significant space saving when compared with the 480mm projection of a standard Concept basin. Guest basins are suitable for even smaller spaces and are used with wall hung or floorstanding units which, along with the basins themselves, are available as right or left handed variants to fit in any corner and still seem spacious. A range of compact WCs and bidets is included in the collection. Available as close coupled, back-to-wall and wall hung suites, Concept Space WCs reduce projection by as much as 75mm, allowing for better planning and flexibility. An innovative corner WC has been specially designed to fit where wall space is tight or where usually there would not be enough legroom for a standard WC. Concept Space baths are shaped to fit in any space, with square shower baths and Spacemaker baths available. Square shower baths are available both left and right handed and as either 150 or 170cm in length. Flexible brassware positioning allows the bath to be adapted for either double ended bathing or with conventional bath shower mixers. A 170cm Concept Spacemaker bath narrows to 550mm at one end to accommodate awkward bathroom shapes or obstructive windows or doorways.

Concept Space

Saving water, energy and money

Jeff Williams, Brassware and Fittings Project Manager, Ideal Standard says, “Concept Blue pays for itself – saving water and energy saves households money, and those savings soon add up. The calculated saving from the basin mixer featuring IdealBlue technology and a 5l/min outlet flow regulators £174 per year giving a payback period of less than nine months.” Blue basin mixers will carry the European Water Label which Ideal Standard has introduced across its entire range – a single label across Europe which clearly shows the volume of water that the tap or shower head will consume per minute if installed correctly and in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, and offers an actual performance band per product. Key Features • IdealBlue technology saves water, energy and money • A 5l/min aerated flow regulator reduces water use • A multi-port IdealBlue cartridge improves flow rates at low pressure, and allows smoother, more sensitive handle control even at high pressure • Easy fix installation enables quick and effortless installation with no risk of leakage, no lime scale deposits and easier maintenance • Cool Body technology on basin mixers ensure the body is cool to the touch as a safety precaution • Lead and nickel-free IdealPure innovation on basin mixers improves water purity • Bath shower mixers are supplied with an IdealRain S1 shower set comprising of a handspray, holder, hose and hose retainer as standard. Ideal Standard will continue to challenge convention when it comes to product design and innovation to ensure that everyone gets a product that not only looks beautiful and is well designed but also has a real meaning and purpose when it comes to its everyday use.

Marketfocus | showrooms

We have all seen the TV ads. We know where they are coming from and why they are saying what they say. They have a vested interest in promoting the concept that the consumer can buy a bathroom cheaper and as simply on the internet as through a showroom.

SHOWROOMS

– A NECESSITY OR AN

But is this really so? Take our Essential range – it offers high quality excellent design and is highly competitive on prices against the internet trader. And what price does the consumer put on technical advice. There is certainly none from the internet suppliers, but every showroom offers this knowledge. Unfortunately, sometimes too generously, thereby allowing a potential customer to take advantage of the availability of professional advice and then to decide to buy on the internet based on this advice. It’s all too easy, even after raiding the showroom for advice, for the end user still to get it wrong when placing the order on the internet and these traders certainly won’t come back to collect and replace will they? At Ideal Bathrooms we are totally confident in, and committed to, the future of showrooms. Quite simply the consumer wants to touch and feel the bathroom product. They need the service and advice they will get through the retail showroom that will talk them through the process, tell them what to look out for and to guard against, explain the ramifications of issues such as changing from a flush bend to a close coupled WC and will offer advice on current trends. The retailer is more than happy to see the potential customer come through the door two or three times for further information. However the showroom does need to find a way to lock in the customer, perhaps by offering a complete package costing so that the consumer cannot easily compare prices, and to offer not just advice but maybe also a design service and installation.

So how does the retailer turn showroom traffic into showroom sales? We asked a sample of customers for their opinions. Del Preece of Plumb Mate, who featured in our showroom article in the last issue, believes it’s down to service - going the extra mile in giving advice to potential customers. “You can tell who is just coming in to pick your brains and is likely to buy on the internet. They are usually looking for the cheapest price and it tends to show. They want a detailed specification so it’s readymade for them to shop on the net.”

24 • THE IDEAL BATHROOM Issue 14

Marketfocus | showrooms

E XPENSIVE LUXURY

Del adds that many plumbers don’t like installing bathrooms bought on the internet because there is usually something not to the required specification or even arrives broken. He points out that it is likely to be time wasted and a lot of inconvenience waiting for replacements and the installer has probably booked the week to do the job and is then left without the work and therefore income. “With the supplying showroom down the road, any problems can usually be rapidly resolved.” Concludes Del Jeremy Clarke of Ashlane Merchants in Kidderminster firmly believes the public generally want the showroom service. “There are always those who buy purely on price and try to use the showroom expertise and then buy on the internet. It is quite disheartening to feel you are being used as a free advisory service but it is a service we really believe in providing.” He confirms what Del says, that showing you know the pitfalls and can therefore avoid them, creates a preference for customers to buy from people they feel they can trust. He puts his faith in human nature based on over 30 years of “doing things properly” as he says. “Trade is trade and retail is retail” he adds “There is a role for everyone in this chain and good sound advice is well worth spending a little more on.” He quotes an example of a customer claiming to have brought a £700 kitchen fitting over the internet at a price which would have given him just a £20 margin. He also has examples of trying to buy branded products on the internet himself, only to be switched to an alternative which is inferior but is claimed to be the same. “The customer needs to be aware of false promises and to recognise the need for advice. They would be a lot happier with the finished result and they need to be convinced when visiting the showroom that this is the case.”

However Del believes this is a service they have to offer, to be seen as experts to show customers there are a lot of pitfalls waiting for the unwary or unknowledgeable. “The genuine customer is looking for ideas and inspiration” adds Del. “When they see you know what you are talking about, it gives them confidence and you can show them it is worth paying a bit more to make sure they get it right first time. The better your service, then the more likely you are to turn the enquiry into an actual sale.”

CompanyInsight | Ideal Standard

Fittings From Start to Finish As one of the few manufacturers in the sector to actually produce its own taps and shower fittings, Ideal Standard is fundamentally different from many of its competitors. Its commitment to water fittings is nothing new, having developed the first ceramic disc valve and the first single lever ceramic disc cartridge, both of which have become the industry norm.

This rich history of innovative product development has seen Ideal Standard develop an unrivalled offering, where every element of manufacture from design through to packaging is controlled in its own manufacturing facilities.

The company’s value proposition has three key areas: design, performance and durability. Whilst many in the industry might treat tap design as fairly generic, Ideal Standard has built up a strong set of design credentials. Working with some

SAVE WATER, SAVE MONEY WITH INNOVATIVE BLUE TECHNOLOGY

of Europe’s leading designers, from inside and outside the bathroom industry, it continues to bring a fresh approach to fittings design, resulting in a stronger range of user-centred products. Engineering expertise has allowed Ideal Standard to produce high performing fittings, which meet the current British Standard guidelines for flow rates at the minimum operating pressures, found in a large number of properties throughout the UK. This commitment gives customers confidence that they have invested in the right product to suit their needs.

Features included in the fittings include flow regulators, temperature limit stops and click cartridges. These aren’t seen as add-ons by Ideal Standard, but as integral to a modern bathroom and therefore come as standard with its fittings. This allows customers the freedom to use the features, or not. For example, a customer with a low pressure system would not want the five litre per minute aerator fitted as standard on most basin mixers, so optional stream straighteners are included in the box at no extra cost.

A recent innovation is Blue Technology, which has lead and nickel-free waterways, save water and energy, therefore saving money for the user. Whilst legislation is not yet in place to limit lead and nickel content, Ideal Standard’s foresight and investment ensure it remains at the forefront of bathroom technology. To achieve WRAS accreditation, fittings are tested to 200,000 operations. However, with over 60% of taps in the UK sold as distress purchase, Ideal Standard are

more rigorous, testing to 500,000 cycles, giving added confidence to the buyer. This combination of cutting-edge design, high performance and impressive durability has seen Ideal Standard become a leading player in both residential and nonresidential sectors (under the Armitage Shanks brand), making it the ideal choice for any bathroom.

At the end of 2013, Saint- Gobain’s 16,700 employees across the UK & Ireland voted for their new 2014/2015 charity partner, with Macmillan Cancer Support receiving the most votes The building and distribution arm of Saint Gobain in the UK, which includes Ideal Bathrooms, developed its unique ‘Together’ charity programme in 2002. Since then it has worked together with its customers and suppliers to raise over £2 million for charities including Help the Hospices, The British Heart Foundation and Barnardo’s. Peter Hindle MBE, general delegate for Saint Gobain UK and Ireland said “Our Together programme is about just that – bringing people together for a great cause. This is the first time we have expanded the programme out across all Saint Gobain businesses in the UK and Ireland and we have a real opportunity to make a big difference to the lives of the people affected by cancer. Many people are affected by cancer and this was reflected in the voting result.”

Emily Shelford, Partnership Management Leader at Macmillan Cancer Support says “Macmillan are delighted to have been chosen as Saint- Gobain’s new charity partners and look forward to working together over the next 2 years to raise vital funds for people affected by cancer.

Together we want to ensure no one has to face cancer alone and without the help of our partners like Saint- Gobain, we simply couldn’t do this.” Ideal Bathrooms’ Managing Director, John Bagshaw, adds “We look forward to working alongside our customers and suppliers to raise important funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and the Irish Cancer Society. This is such a worthwhile cause and one which has touched the lives of many friends and colleagues.”

Completing the Ideal Bathrooms’ display is a selection of shower trays from the premium collection by high profile brand Bette. “As KBB is the UK’s largest bathroom exhibition, it is important that Ideal Bathrooms, as the UKs leading specialist bathroom distributor, should display our bathroom portfolio” says Ideal Bathrooms’ Sales Director Rob St Barbe. “The Essentials portfolio has proved extremely popular because it offers high quality product and design at prices to compete against the DIY multiples and the internet, yet it still gives excellent margins for the retailer” adds Rob. The displays are supported by a new, redesigned Essentials range brochure with 52 pages of product information and impressive room settings to fire the consumers’ imagination.

The Essential range has recently been extended and now offers a complete sove e collection to provide showrooms with a wide range of options, on show in room settings to whet the appetite. NB Graphic content and furniture shown for indicative purposes only.

What’snew | KBB Ideal Standard return to KBB with new exclusive suite launch Come and see us on stand E60 Ideal Standard is set to launch its new product range for 2014 at the prominent industry showcase, which takes place at Birmingham’s NEC in March this year – and has taken a 200 sq ft of exhibition space stand. Ideal Standard’s return to KBB comes after its major relaunch of its brand image and a new approach to design, driven by fresh insights into the differing needs of consumers within the bathroom. This new strategy, along with a portfolio of innovative new products, plus exclusive ranges and offers for showroom customers, will see Ideal Standard re-establishing its position as a market leading brand.

Keith Boad, Managing Director, Ideal Standard, comments: “The market continues to show green shoots of recovery and we feel we are in

Soft Mood

a strong place to take advantage with our reenergised brand image and refreshed offering of innovative new products and exclusive offers. Our 2014 product launch plans and a new focus on retail, mean the timing is absolutely right, and we are delighted to be returning to exhibit at KBB Birmingham. The show enables us to reach a broad cross section of retailers, to present our plans and line-up of new products, but to also listen to our customer base, and understand how Ideal Standard can be an even better partner moving forward.”

Solutions for every area of bathroom design at KBB Birmingham Making a return visit to the exhibition halls of the NEC, Roca is looking forward to meeting with visitors and showcasing its wide portfolio of bathroom solutions at kbb Birmingham 2014. With a stand decorated in a striking contrast of black and white with injections of wood finishes throughout, Roca will be displaying products for every area of bathroom design, from sanitaryware to baths and brassware to furniture. From the beautiful Virginia freestanding bathtub, to the company’s super-chic hydrotherapy shower columns, a new range of flush plates and everything in between, the Roca stand will turn heads and leave visitors to the show with plenty to talk about. With storage being an essential element of bathrooms big and small, visitors to Stand E70 can see how Roca’s new Prisma and Heima furniture collections

respond to the trend for natural finishes while offering flexibility of design. A versatile option for any bathroom, the Prisma range incorporates the washbasin for a seamless finish, whilst Roca’s Heima furniture has been designed to fit with many of the manufacturer’s on countertop basins. Water-saving is a growing priority for retailers, designers and consumers alike and Roca responds to this with a variety of solutions, many of which can be seen at KBB Birmingham. Roca customers can save water not only through their choice of brassware, with options including the stylishly elegant L20 collection and Victoria-T shower column, but also with innovations such as the W+W combined washbasin and WC which has a refill system that filters the basin’s water for reuse in flushing the cistern. The Roca stand would not be complete without an area dedicated to showcasing its latest innovations, and at KBB Birmingham these will include CleanRim The Gap wall-hung WC, the multi award-winning InTank Meridian WC, cut in half to demonstrate the space-saving qualities of the cistern built-into the pan and the stunning Armani/Roca collection. Roca can be found on Stand E70 at KBB Birmingham, from Sunday 2nd to Wednesday 5th March 2014.

Roca’s Virginia freestanding bath will be just one of the focal points of the stand at KBB Birmingham.
