Session 5: Assessing the Supply Side of SPS Related Assistance – Compilation of Selected Donors’ Assistance in Central American countries
Presentation: Mr. Jorge Méndez, Independent consultant This session is focused around presentation of a compilation of the SPS assistance provided by donors to Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama over the past five years. The discussion will identify priority areas where assistance has been received and assess the impact of that assistance, particularly in the context of Central American countries’ broader development strategies. The view from the perspective of donors will complement the discussion. What have been the key drivers of SPS-related assistance in the Central American region? What factors will drive future SPS-related assistance ? Is the current level of assistance sustainable ? Why is assistance focused so much on training and information? What is holding back assistance in the development of hard infrastructure?
