CONTINUING A LEGACY INTO MODERN DAY For a century, the corner of Nanaimo and 34th has hosted a humble corner store. Last named B.K. Grocery, the store has seen Vancouver’s many shifts in its long life, its own history a reflection of Vancouver’s evolution.

Completed by Harry Bridge in 1918, the store changed hands over a dozen times until 1968 when B.K. Mah purchased it. B.K. Mah Grocery was the first non-European name on the sign, his family’s story a narrative familiar to many new Canadians, then and now.
