can work for everyone… Chris Sargisson Founder We’ve had some interesting feedback recently from one of our many happy customers, that when she’s talked about House Revolution to her friends, she didn’t get the response she expected. They said that they know about us, they get what we do, but didn’t think we could help them as their houses were of high value. They seemed to think that House Revolution is only for the cheaper end of the market.

normally considerably more. And we regularly sell homes of higher values:

That couldn’t be further from the truth House Revolution is capable of selling any property and the more your home’s worth, the more you stand to save (compared to a traditional agent).

So come on, there should be no more excuses. Please give us the opportunity to sell your home and do what we love doing best, saving your money! We do everything necessary to get your home sold for just £999+VAT no sale- no fee. We don’t tie you into any contract, we prefer to encourage you to stay with us because of the service we give to you.

For example if your home is worth £200,000 we can save you around £2500 but if your home is worth £600,000 the saving is nearer to £9500! The most expensive home we currently have for sale is priced at £1.2M. That customer stands to save £20,000 when we sell it. That’s just based on 1.5% commission, but on high end properties, it’s

Book Review by Lindsay Butler

HER FEARFUL SYMMETRY – Audrey Niffenegger Audrey Niffenegger’s latest offering following her tale of the impossible romance of star crossed lovers in The Time Traveler’s Wife, is a story of identity, love, loss and new beginnings spun into a fabulously supernatural web.

human lives, memory and the mechanisms of coping with loss that Niffenegger captures perfectly. It is amongst all this chaos that the twins must carve their own paths to their future.

Julia and Valentina Poole are ‘mirror twins’, physically identical in every way. When their mother’s own estranged twin the mysterious Aunt Elspeth dies, the twins are left her flat in London, overlooking Highgate Cemetery where she has been buried.

Her Fearful Symmetry is a thought provoking and powerfully intelligent novel which will cement Niffenegger’s position as one of the most remarkable and innovative novelists of our time.

Previously content in their suburban American lives, the twins are captivated by the Aunt whose existence they were previously unaware of and decide to move country to start a new life. Upon arrival to London the twins find themselves drawn into the remnants of Elspeth’s life, living amongst the apartments of her nearest and dearest. The neighbour with severe OCD, the grieving lover, the ‘kitten of death’ and Elspeth’s own ghost, trapped in her apartment and unable to leave, all contribute to the rich tapestry of

INTERVIEW...AMANDA HOUSTON By Christina Bellamy Main photo by Julia Holland (and front cover)

Amanda met me in the foyer, perfectly groomed with a big, friendly smile. There is just a slight hint of a Geordie accent but I soon find out she wasn’t born in Newcastle: “I was born in Cumbria but I moved to Newcastle when I was 18 in search of the big lights, I wanted to work in the media and was lucky enough to land a job as a junior on the local paper. About six years ago was approached by Tyne Tees to work in their advertising department...I had to pinch myself to think I was working in TV and that’s when I thought if I really knuckle down, do the right courses, and offer free time on programmes, I might get into presenting....“

After spending a number of years working in television, you meet all sorts of characters and quite a few egos, so it’s always refreshing to meet someone who is completely down to earth even though they are ‘on the box’. That can definitely be said for ITV Anglia’s weather presenter, Amanda Houston, who has been gracing our screens in all kinds of weather for the last two years. I went for a chat to see how the Northern lass ended up in the fine city of Norwich. Ever since then I’ve been quite obsessed with Fred Talbot! 10

So had she always wanted to be a “I absolutely love it....when I got weather presenter? “Yes, I did, home now, I can’t wait to come ever since I was about 12, Fred back....it is known as the hidden Talbot, the weather man who used gem, because it’s not on the main to be on This Morning, came to way to anywhere...so you need to my home town and did a report seek to find it and when you do from there, basically I was being it’s a real treasure. “ quite rebellious in the background and waving at Anglia made my dreams come true..... the cameras and I’ll never forget he told us off, and we stood there like little soldiers People ask me that all the time and and ever since then I’ve been quite I still feel, it might sound cheesy, obsessed with Fred Talbot the but I still feel so thankful, that weatherman!” Anglia made my dreams come true, I’m not in a rush to go off and do But Anglia nearly didn’t get her: this, that and the other, I’m just so “I’d been trying for about two happy to be here and be doing years to get into presenting, and what I’m doing and growing and there were a lot of redundancies at learning....it’s about doing this as a the time and I was told there job and growing with it...I still wouldn’t be a chance to present. I have a lot to learn. thought it’s time to try something else and give up on the Amanda has her own dream....so I got one way weather blog: ticket to Sydney, got my http://blog.itv.com/ visa sorted but about 9 days anglia before I was due to fly out, the job came up here. I applied but thought I would never get it but at least I’d tried one more time. And lo and behold I got the job! So one week I was moving to Australia, and the next....doing this! “ Amanda has now been in Norfolk for two years and feels right at home:

UEFA Champions League

The Champions League’s group stage has reached its mid-point and a clear picture is starting to emerge of who’ll be going through to the next round. Tottenham’s first Champions League season has already been a roller coaster. After overturning a 3-0 deficit against Young Boys in the qualifying rounds, Spurs fans have enjoyed a thrilling 2-2 draw with Werder Bremen and 4-1 victory over FC Twente. Their biggest test now comes against reigning champions Inter Milan, who crushed Bremen 4-0 but could only manage a draw against Twente. Britain’s Champions League regulars are all unbeaten. Manchester United and Rangers drew with each other and share the top spot in their group after wins over Valencia and Bursaspor. Chelsea have dominated their group and won every game so far. Arsenal also have a perfect record, having thrashed Braga 6-0 at home and pulled off a tricky 3-1 win away to Partizan Belgrade. Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid have managed to grind out results in the ‘group of death’ despite mediocre performances, with their clashes against AC Milan likely to

determine the group winner. Last season’s finalists Bayern Munich and semi-finalists Lyon have won every game. Perennial favourites Barcelona thrashed Panathinaikos 5-1 but were held to a surprising 1-1 draw by Russian side Rubin Kazan. The English sides look strong enough that at least one should make it to the final at Wembley Stadium, with the three London sides all hoping to be the first team from the capital to lift Europe’s top trophy. Gardening Tips for November From Mike Barker, Ace of Spades Trees and Gardens While out in the garden it’s a great time to enjoy autumn leaf colours and see the seeds on trees. Its also time to rake up leaves within the garden during the dry days, in particular from the lawn as the grass will spoil. But avoid being on the lawn during wet or frosty weather as it may damage the lawn. Collection and storage of fallen leaves within a compost area will produce great leaf mould compost in around 12 months. Sealed black polythene bags filled with leaves with small holes are also useful for this. Mowing of the lawn with increased height of the blade should continue until the end of November. Generally December is a time to have lawn equipment repaired and serviced. During fine spells this is the best time of the year for turfing to renovate or replace a lawn.

The stake keeps the root fixed in place and prevents wind rock. Significant tree work and hedge reductions should be planned and carried out over the next few months. Final pruning of deciduous shrubs should be carried out in preparation for winter. Bulb planting can still take place, something to look forward to in spring. Also insulate pots left out for the winter. Keep cleaning up herbaceous perennials to prevent fungal growth, and clean out leaves from the container plants to keep them from infection.

Mike

Planting of bare root trees and fruit trees during November. Also planting hedgerows stock and consideration of hedge laying mixed native hedge rows to ensure they are stock proof. When planting trees ensure the pit is large enough to accommodate the roots, and to the depth of the growth notch on the tree. Ensure the tree is staked low to allow the tree to flex in the wind and its bark to thicken. When staking avoid entering the root area. Place the stake on the prevailing wind side to avoid the tree rubbing against the stake. Please mention The Iceni Guide when responding to adverts

FINANCIAL SOLUTIONS: LPAs with Holly Heald Statistics show that most of us are likely to enjoy long lives, but we may not always be able to manage our own affairs or we may find ourselves incapacitated by illness or accident for periods during our lives. The question we may forget to ask ourselves is what arrangements do we have in place if we are unable to manage our own affairs? This question is particularly sensitive to people who live their own independent lives, and couples in later stages of their lives. Dealing with money and welfare matters in ill health or old age can be difficult and worrying perhaps even impossible. Although a friend or family member could apply to the court be appointed a “Deputy” to handle your affairs, this can be a lengthy and very costly process. The simplest solution is for you to appoint someone to manage your affairs on your behalf if you become unable to do so. The usual legal arrangement used in the UK is a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA). The LPA is a legal document that enables a person’s trusted representative(s) – known as Attorney(s) - to oversee their finances and welfare.

There are two different types of LPA: A Property and Financial Affairs LPA allows your Attorney to make decisions on your behalf about your property and affairs, including paying your bills, collecting your income and benefits or selling your house A Health & Welfare LPA allows your Attorney to make decisions on your behalf about your personal welfare when you lack the capacity to do so yourself, and can include whether to give or refuse consent to medical treatment on your behalf and deciding where you live. If you were to suffer significant physical or mental incapacity, an LPA could make your life much easier and less stressful for you and your loved ones, as well as protecting your interests. In short, an LPA is a bit like an insurance policy: you hope that you’ll never need it, but if you do - it’s invaluable.

We offer a range of cost effective services including LPAs and would be pleased to discuss your options with you without obligation.

1st Class Aerials & Satellite Digital updates from Andy Rolfe Why do you need a new aerial? In 2011 The Anglia Region shuts down all their analogue services. The digital services will now be rearranged to allow for the increase in transmitter power, these will now be spread between 470 MHZ to 860MHZ. Today’s Freeview Digital Channels are broadcast between 726 MHZ and 820MHZ. Your TV aerial was manufactured to cover these channels so you have perfect digital channels today. But in 2011 TV channels will be using 622 MHZ to 726 MHZ also.

This means up to 60 channels that you have will disappear! The only way to restore these TV Channels will mean upgrading your aerial to a full spectrum design. Can you afford to wait? It’s up to you but we have availability now.

Avoid the scramble, call 01603 898770 or speak to the driver of this fully stocked mobile workshop. Email; firstclasssat@aol.com or andyrolfe@firstclassaerials.co.uk
