GA ICE wins 16U Championship Suwanee, GA – The 16U Division was by far the most talent filled division with many future D-1 prospects on hand like sophomore Tiffany Mitchell (NC) – FBC, Fr.- Kaela Davis (GA) – GA ICE, So.-Bre McDonald (GA) – WP Celtics, Jr.-Ashley Watts (GA) – Celtics East, Jr.-Elem Ibiam (GA) FBC, Jr.-Gia Banks (GA), Celtics Gold and o.-Ashley Santos (IL) – GA ICE just to name a few. When all was said and done it was the young GA ICE team coached by former NBA Star Antonio Davis and led by his highly touted daughter, 6-2 freshman Kaela Davis that came away with the championship hardware as they ousted a very talented FBC squad. The first half was just like a track meet as the teams raced up and down the court trading baskets back and forth. Davis and Alexis Brown (daughter of former NBA Star and Slam Dunk winner Dee Brown) handled the bulk of the scoring for the ICE in the first half; Davis scored 16 point and Brown 13. Between the two of them they knocked down five three-pointers. FBC used a more balanced attack led by the all-around scoring of Tiffany Mitchell (12 pts.) and the inside play of Kelly Reid (6 of 6 FT's) and Elem Ibiam (7 pts.) to take a 36-33 halftime lead.

Things really got heated in the second half between the players and fans and I would say more the fans than the players. With 3:02 left to play FBC held a 61-60 lead. A technical foul against the FBC Coach fter a foul call would put Davis on the line for the ICE; her free-throw tied the game at 61-61. Teammate Kristina Nelson who was fouled stepped to the line and hit her two free-throws to give the ICE a 63-61 lead. With 1:33 left on the clock Reid scored to tie the game at 63-63. With under a minute to play Nelson would score on a put-back and Davis would complete a three-point play to seal the deal giving the ICE a 68-63 championship game victory. Davis who was named the tournaments MVP, finished the game with 25 points, Brown added 18 and Nelson finished with 11 going 7 for 8 from the free-throw line. Mitchell, who scored 12 points in the first half, went scoreless in the second half. Reid and Ibiam both would finish with 11 points. Kecia Miller did a nice job of getting to the basket for FBC in the second half and hit 6 of 8 free-throws.
