MEET YOUR GLOBAL NETWORK 2 00 + EVENTS JUNE-JULY 2014

LIVERPOOL UK

The International Festival for Business 2014 will be an ambitious global showcase for great British industries and sectors. It will connect UK businesses to new markets, new products and new partners.

Dear Reader I am delighted to provide you with an update on the work of IBDE. The past year has been extremely successful for IBDE. We have organised and delivered successfully a great number of conferences, forums and high-level meetings that have helped thousands of attendees to gain an update on challenges and opportunities into new markets, develop their international trade potential and maximise the networking opportunities. But, our success would have been impossible to achieve without the kind support of our partners and sponsors, to whom I wish to express my sincere gratitude. Alongside our trade and investment forums, the launching of the international programme on restoring trust and confidence in financial services has been the highlight of our last year's activities. The forums in this series aim to explore the tremendous changes in the financial services sector in countries across the globe including the UK. These meetings were extremely useful in understanding more clearly the banking crises, which led to costly bank bailouts, bank failures and overall disruption in economic activity. Consequently, as most industry practitioners would agree, this crisis has greatly damaged public trust in banks and financial services. As was discussed at the forums in this series the changes in the banking landscape and banking crises have focused policy makers’ and industry participants’ attention on the appropriate role and structure of banking supervision and regulation. The vulnerabilities exposed in the crisis affect banks and states globally while regulatory policy is organised along national boundaries – raising difficult policy coordination issues in the international regulatory field. Further, most advanced economies need to stimulate economic growth to reduce deficits and debt, but growth requires investment, and investment levels have slumped to record lows relative to output, despite some positive development in the UK, Europe in general and the US. Therefore, banks and finance can play a key role in financing effectively the so called real economy and set the economic growth back on track. IBDE forums in this series will continue to encourage greater focus on best practice in banking and finance in the quest to restore confidence and growth in the world markets and we look forward to working with all stakeholders. I am also especially pleased that last year IBDE signed the official partnership with the Liverpool Vision to support the International Festival for Business 2014. As most of you would have heard by now, the IFB 2014 will take place in Liverpool during June and July 2014 and will feature over 200 world-class events attracting more than 250,000 business delegates from across the globe. On 20 November 2013, by kind permission of the Prime Minister, The Rt Hon David Cameron MP, I was invited to join government ministers, business leaders and IFB Ambassadors at an exclusive Downing Street reception to mark 200 days until the start of the IFB 2014. IBDE will play a key role at the Festival hosting a number of high-level activities including: 

Global Economic Forum 2014 - Exploring Strategic Business & Investment Opportunities Worldwide, 16-18 June 2014

5th International Banking and Finance Forum - Restoring Growth and Confidence in World Markets, 2-3 July 2014

Europe Week Pavilion - Showcasing Trade and Investment Opportunities in Europe, 16-20 June 2014

This brochure will provide you with more details on the above events. But please feel free to contact us should you wish to find out more about the IBDE activities during the IFB 2014 and how we can facilitate your presence at the Festival. You can find the summaries and reports of past IBDE activities at our website www.ibde.org. Please subscribe to our Newsletter for free to receive regular invitations to IBDE events. You can also follow us on twitter @IBDE_News. And finally, I wish to invite you to support us at the IFB and consider some limited sponsorship and exhibition opportunities that are available for the events at the Festival. Please do not hesitate to contact us at info@ibde.org should you want to learn more about our work. We look forward to welcoming you and your colleagues at our events during the IFB 2014, in Liverpool.
