Stress is a part of life - especially for high school students, and even more so for those of us in the IB Diploma Programme.

According to recent studies, 32% of teenagers in America report experiencing extreme stress during the school year. But even though the word “stress” is thrown around all the time, how well do we actually understand it?

Before you even begin the IB, you have to make a decision that feels huge: your subject choices. It’s stressful - we’ve been there.

• Biology (HL/SL)

There are six groups to choose from, and you’ll take six subjects: three at Higher Level (HL) and three at Standard Level (SL). The key is to choose subjects that:

• Physics (HL/SL)

• Chemistry (HL/SL)

Group 5 - Mathematics • Math: Analysis & Approaches (HL/SL) • Math: Applications & Interpretations (SL)

Group 6 - Arts / Optional • No art subject is offered at our school, so you can select an additional subject from Groups 1-4.

One great way to start is to look up university degree requirements on platforms like UCAS (UK), Common App (US), or individual university sites. If you’re still unsure about your future career, pick subjects that offer flexibility later on.

Also, if your school doesn’t offer a subject you love, there’s always Pamoja - an online IB learning platform. But be warned: online learning takes real self-discipline. If you’re self-motivated, go for it. If you need more structure, think twice.

Is Every Subject Equal?

Some students thrive in humanities. Others shine in math or sciences. The best advice we can give? Know yourself - and ignore the noise.

What’s Offered at Our School?

Math AI (Applications & Interpretations) is better suited for Social Sciences, Design, or general degrees.

Even the level (HL or SL) matters in some countries. Always check official university sites or speak to a guidance counselor.

So… Is the IB Worth It? Yes - if you’re ready to grow. The IB challenges you, stretches you, and sometimes frustrates you. But it also gives you a global perspective, academic tools, and resilience. You don’t have to be perfect - you just need to be curious, committed, and willing to ask for help when you need it.

Christmas & CAS Week

Holiday Spirit and Student Leadership at IAS What’s the holiday season without creativity, celebration, and a bit of friendly competition? At IAS, we embrace the festive spirit by organizing exciting events - and two of the biggest highlights are always Christmas and CAS Week.

You may be wondering, what exactly is CAS Week? It’s a special week when 11th and 12th graders take charge of organizing various events. These experiences aren’t just fun - they also help us gain valuable skills, contribute to our community, and show what we’re capable of. Some of the standout moments this year included the bake sale, Culture Day, art workshops, and the SHOM Bazaar.

CAS Week ran from December 8-13, and the Christmas event took place on December 20. So, what made these events stand out this year? Let’s take a closer look.

SHOM Bazaar A Global Celebration One of the most exciting parts of CAS Week was the SHOM International Charity Bazaar, held on December 8th, 2024. This event is organized by the spouses of Heads of Missions in Warsaw and showcases international culture, arts, and food from around the world.

The bazaar drew an impressive 20,000 visitors, making it a massive opportunity for IAS students to shine. Many of us from Grades 11 and 12 helped organize, support, and guide guests. It wasn’t just a fun event - it was a proud moment for the whole school, and definitely one for the memory books.

“I had the pleasure of participating in the SHOM Bazaar, and it gave me real managerial experience. It was amazing to immerse in so many cultures and help manage the events and shows!”

A Warm and Festive Christmas Celebration Have you ever imagined the perfect school Christmas event?

This year’s celebration came pretty close. Each class had cozy gatherings where students shared food, played board games, and simply enjoyed time together.

Meanwhile, middle school students enjoyed a screening of Last Christmas, and upstairs, a fierce Kahoot house competition was underway - where one house came out victorious (congrats!).

A touching part of the event was the farewell celebration for our beloved Chemistry/Biology teacher, Mr. Dolenz. Students gave speeches, presented gifts, and created a heartfelt atmosphere.

To end the day on a warm note, students and teachers sang Christmas carols together while sipping hot chocolate. The entire event radiated joy, unity, and festive vibes.

CAS in Action: Bake Sale and Culture Day Beyond the SHOM Bazaar, CAS Week was packed with student-led initiatives - especially the bake sale and Culture Day. Did you know the bake sale raised 776 zł for charity? That’s a huge achievement! Students and teachers baked cupcakes, cookies, cakes, and other treats, and all proceeds went to a charitable cause. Sweet in every way.

Final Thoughts Looking back on this year’s Christmas Event and CAS Week, one thing is clear - both were unforgettable successes. From the heartwarming farewell to Mr. Dolenz to the global energy of the SHOM Bazaar, IAS students had the chance to lead, connect, and give back.

Culture Day was another favorite. Students set up booths in the cafeteria to present countries they’re connected to. They showcased beautiful posters, shared snacks from their cultures, and explained customs and traditions. It was a celebration of diversity and a chance for all of us to learn more about each other.

Bringing Holiday Joy to Children in Need Every year during the Christmas season, the IAS community comes together to support those in need. It’s a time of giving, reflection, and connection - and this year, our school took part in something truly special: a charity initiative called “Gwiazdor.”

The Beginning of Something Meaningful With the support of Principal Uden, our school reached out to an orphanage in Warsaw and asked for letters from the children - letters they had written to Santa Claus. These lists contained the children’s wishes - big dreams and small ones, all filled with hope.

Students from Grades 10 and 11 volunteered to organize the process. It all started at the beginning of the school year, when

Gwiazdor is an organization that connects orphanages with schools and other institutions, helping to bring joy to children during what can be a very difficult time for them.

While many of us associate Christmas with family warmth, gifts, and celebration, for children in orphanages, this season can be a painful reminder of what they’re missing.

Making Dreams Come True After all the gifts had been purchased, students packed them with care and waited for the next step: delivery. In a truly heartwarming gesture, Principal Uden personally delivered the presents to the children at the orphanage.

The moment was more than just symbolic - it was a message that they are seen, valued, and remembered, even by people they’ve never met. The excitement and joy this brought to the children is something we can all feel proud of.

the lists arrived and were distributed across the school. Each homeroom class received two wish lists, meaning every class would sponsor gifts for two children.

There were a few challenges along the way - from logistics to coordination - but the entire school community, especially the homeroom teachers, came together with energy and commitment. Thanks to their support, each class was able to collect money and purchase the items on the wish lists.

A Lesson in Gratitude This experience wasn’t just about helping others - it also taught us, the students, something important. We saw that many of these children wished for things we often take for granted: a football, a pair of shoes, an art set, a winter jacket.

It reminded us to be grateful for what we have and to recognize that kindness - even small acts - can have a huge impact. More importantly, it made us realize that when we have the chance to help, we should take it.

Participating in the Gwiazdor initiative showed us that the true spirit of Christmas lies in giving, caring, and making someone else’s life a little brighter.

AI AND THE FUTURE

Hult International Business School at IAS At IAS, we are lucky to be part of a school community that creates meaningful opportunities for students to grow - not just academically, but also as future professionals. One such opportunity came when IAS hosted a special session with a representative from Hult International Business School, focusing on one of the most important topics of our time: Artificial Intelligence.

In a clear and inspiring 45-minute presentation, the speaker helped us understand what AI is, how it works, and how it’s shaping the world around us. For many of us, this session was more than just a lecture - it was a paradigm shift in how we view the future.

Understanding AI: From Basics to Breakthroughs The session started with a solid introduction to the foundations of AI, including clear definitions and explanations of different types of artificial intelligence - from basic tools we use every day to more advanced and developing systems. What made the session so engaging was the speaker’s ability to connect theory with real-world examples.

Preparing for the Future One of the key takeaways from the session was the importance of preparation. The representative emphasized the skills that will be most valuable in an AI-driven future - such as critical thinking, adaptability, and a deep understanding of ethical challenges.

We learned about early uses of AI, as well as the most recent breakthroughs that are changing how we live and work. For example, the speaker talked about the role of AI in healthcare systems, and how it is already transforming diagnostics, patient care, and data analysis. These real-life applications helped us see that AI isn’t just some abstract concept - it’s something that is already reshaping our world.

Hult’s Role in the AI Landscape To wrap up the session, the speaker shared how Hult International Business School is adapting to the AI revolution. The university is creating programs and learning environments that help students not only understand AI but also lead in AIinfluenced industries. It was encouraging to hear how forward-thinking institutions are equipping the next generation with the tools they’ll need.

Final Reflection We are truly thankful to IAS for organizing this visit. It gave us a deeper appreciation of both the potential and responsibility that comes with AI. The session was more than educational - it was inspirational. It helped us begin to think more critically, more globally, and more courageously about the world we’re stepping into.

WOMEN'S DAY AT IAS

At IAS, we never miss a chance to celebrate the important moments that bring our school together - and Women’s Day is one of those special days. As members of the `IAS Times` team, we wanted to do something unique and memorable.

So, we organized short interviews with students from Grades 1 through 12, as well as a few teachers, to ask them fun and thoughtful questions about Women’s Day.

We tried to stay as professional as possible - recording every interview and transcribing the answers word-for-word. Some responses were long, others short and sweet, but all of them gave us insight into what our community thinks about the women in their lives. We even got some hilarious and unexpected answers (like a student who just 'likes Megan Fox’s eyes' or another who gifts his mom 'money and more money').

Beyond the fun, these interviews also showed us how much our students value kindness, family, and strong role models.

This project reminded us how powerful and meaningful even small gestures can be. Whether it’s a flower, a bracelet, or just time spent together, the way our students spoke about the women in their lives was both heartwarming and eye-opening.
