Primary 7C January 2017 Newsletter
I hope that you have all had a happy and peaceful Christmas break and that the children are well rested and ready for the term ahead! Curriculum Overview • Our new topic for this term is Mission Africa which will allow us to investigate the many diverse countries that make up this wonderful continent. We will be looking at physical features, human rights, native animals, life expectancy, traditions and schooling. • Mrs Middleton is focussing on performing to an audience and guitar skills in music this term. • Mr Ward’s timetable for PE has changed slightly and our class will now receive PE on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please ensure they have their kit on these days.
Primary 7 Transition The children will take part in a Health and Wellbeing transition programme provided by Lornshill Academy. We will welcome staff from Lornshill to St.Serf’s on Thursday 12th, Thursday 19th and Thursday 26th January. This programme will provide an opportunity for the children and staff to get to know one another, allowing for a smooth transition for our children.
• It would be fantastic if you could continue to practise times tables with your child at home if they are not yet confident with these. • As part of personal health, our learning will P7 Rotary Club Quiz involve sex education sessions appropriate to the children’s age and stage. A detailed letter We will be entering a Primary 7 team in will be forwarded nearer the time. the Rotary Club Quiz in Alva Academy on Tuesday 28th February at 6pm. • Our usual Scottish poetry competition will be held on Wednesday 25th January. As is the Mr Williams and I are holding a quiz custom, P6 & P7 recite Burns and the class club every Wednesday, until 22nd winners go forward to the county final. We February, between 3pm-4pm, for pupils are presently awaiting confirmation of the who are interested in representing our poetry choices. We will practise in class school. however, additional support at home would be greatly appreciated. The children chosen to represent St.Serf’s will be notified in due course.
Max in the Middle Our class will have our Max in the Middle week from Monday 20th-Friday 24th February. This week long programme which uses drama, dance, discussion and food preparation and tasting to help our children make informed decisions to improve their mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing. The children will then perform a short assembly on Friday 24th at 9.30am.
Dalguise We will be going on our residential trip to Dalguise Adventure Centre on Wednesday 15th March and will return on Friday 17th March. More details and information will be shared during the term. Please note, children who are not attending Dalguise will be expected to attend school as usual where they will continue to extend their learning.
This performance demonstrates how to cope with dilemmas and will last about an hour. You will be entertained, informed and served food which the children have made. Part of this week involves the children creating a personal invitation which you will receive and will give you more details.
WWII Sketch We would like to invite all of you to come along to see us perform our WWII sketch on 20th January at 9.30am.
