OUR LEARNING THIS TERM I.D.L. Our topic this term is the very exciting MINIBEASTS. There will be lots of amazing things to learn, do and make relating to this theme. Numeracy Some of the areas we will be tackling this term are times tables, telling time, shape, using money and transferring our basic skills to solve a variety of problem solving tasks. We will also be using symmetry to link to our I.D.L. topic. Language and Literacy Reading - As a school, we are moving away from weekly reading practice and preparation as pupil skills develop and improve. To support this, we will be using some new resources this term: Reading Comprehension, Bug Club and Book Detectives. Some reading tasks will be sent as homework over the course of the term. Our class reader is ‘Emily’s Legs’ by Dick King-Smith to link with our I.D.L. topic. Writing - We will continue to improve our writing using VCOP. Our focus this term will be on introducing speech marks and paragraphs as well as continuing to write ‘Super Sentences’ incorporating all VCOP elements. Listening and Talking – Primary 4 will be developing skills for listening and talking. We will be encouraged to participate in discussions following the rules of good listening and talking. We will all be learning and performing the Scots poem ‘The Sair Finger’ by Walter Wingate for the competition to be held later on this month. MLPS – We will be using the days of the week and months of the year in French to date our work. We will be introducing new vocabulary to support our IDL topic. Health and Wellbeing – We will use our class charter and continue to explore and develop a positive mindset for learning and life. In P.E. we will develop skills within racquet sports initially. Social Subjects – We will be exploring our school environment and trying to find ways to make improvements to try to encourage more wildlife into our playground area. Sciences – We will be conducting many experiments as the basis for our minibeasts topic. We will be doing lots of outdoor learning in our wildlife garden too. Technologies – We will have the opportunity to create annotated diagrams of a ‘newly discovered’ minibeast as well as make a 3D model. We will be using a variety of websites to research information for our I.D.L. topic as well as supporting other learning in class. Expressive Arts – Our Art and design tasks will all be based around our I.D.L. topic. We will be learning lots of songs related to our minibeasts topic. R.M.E. – This term our focus will be on the saints – St. Serf, St. Andrew and St. Columba. We will be exploring some Scottish values as well as the Easter story.
