Learning Literacy We are following the Read, Write, Inc programme for teaching phonics. You can support your child at home by playing fun games with the sounds in their sounds packet .eg. find the sound, match the sound to objects around the house, use the sounds to identify different sounds and begin to put these together to create short words to read. We will be learning how to ‘Fred Talk’ – ask your child to show you how to do this! We will also be beginning our journey towards reading. Numeracy We now know all of our numbers 0-10 but can count way beyond this, and do so regularly in class. We will be learning how to add and subtract numbers within 10 and we would really appreciate your support in helping your child to learn their number bonds. Repetition really is the key to success with this. Car journeys, bath time and shopping trips are the ideal opportunities to consolidate this. Social Studies Our focus for this term is Fairyland. We will have lots of magical moments which we are sure the children will love. Ask your child for regular updates, although we are sure they will keep you informed as Fairyland develops! Homework Homework is sent home each night Monday – Thursday to consolidate classroom learning. Please support your child to complete this and return to school daily. Questions? We are very proud of how well the children are doing in Primary 1. However, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Pop a note in your child’s homework folder, drop the school a phone call or email, or just catch us at the gate. We will be more than happy to discuss any queries you may have.

On Thursday 2nd March children can come to school dressed as a character from a book to celebrate World Book Day. Our class assembly will be on Monday 8th May. We would love to see you all there.
This term we will be enjoying music lessons with Mrs Middleton on a Friday afternoon.
Please ensure that your child’s name is on all of their belongings, from water bottles to shoes.
Children may have their bottles on their desks but please could you ensure that only water is in them. Juice can be brought for play time.
