Kom Braai is the brain child of Dewald Visser, former TV presenter and producer of more than 300 TV productions. After presenting the popular Hooked on Golf on kykNET for 85 episodes, another 8 series followed on DSTV. Producing TV programs he travelled the world, from Las Vegas to Malaysia, Mauritius to Dubai, China to Korea, Egypt to Malawi and Scotland to Australia.

Only in its second year the Kom Braai brand is starting to grow into a household name with exposure on Radio with the weekly Kom Braai Radio Program. The crew is currently filming our 3rd series on TopTV , and Dewald entertain crowds with his live cooking shows at festivals and food expos all over South Africa. The production of the second Kom Braai DVD is also in full swing, and will be on sale shortly.

The main aim of the Kom Braai Foundation is to host a braai in areas where kids forgot how to “play”, because of their circumstances. Life on the street is hard, and a day to forget about your troubles, and have fun with other kids while a meal is being prepared, is what we dream to give.

KOM BRAAI STUDIO Kom
Braai designed a studio for our first DVD and built it from scratch. The design was so inspiring that Tuis Opknap magazine made it front cover. For our new TV series on TopTV, we had to build a bigger Kom Braai studio, and that also turned out to be a dream “kuierplek”. We started with a few rough drawings, and then the building started. Pizza oven specialists, Italoven built our centre piece, a stunning wood burning pizza oven. The deck (Eva Tech composite) supplied by Eva Last, was installed by Deckscapes, a Cape based company, specializing in deck and patio engineering. De Tijger Paints supplied the paint for the new look of the Kom Braai studio, and then Eurolux with a team of electricians installed all the plugs, power points, garden lights, spot lights and ambient lighting, to turn the studio into a masterpiece by day and night.
Tropic Trader was the obvious choice for our furniture, and supplied the 8 seater Bavati braai, parasols, benches, bar unit and various smaller side tables. Now we can seat 32 people in the Kom Braai studio. All the chairs needed cushions, and Kehl’s upholstery custom made all this for Kom Braai. Without a tree our new braaispot would by very dull, and Trees South Africa arrived with a crane, planting a 10m Wild Plum tree. Cape Garden Centre with all their suppliers, landscaped our garden to perfection, and now we have a stunning garden all around our studio. Mr Granite supplied all the granite for our work tops, turning it into a very efficient workspace. Home Cor Cupboards specialists of in and outdoor cupboards, designed and supplied fantastic cupboards for our new Kom Braai studio and scullery. To keep all our product and wine chilled, Minus 40 custom made a fridge for us. Kom Braai is also the proud user of the full range of Weber products. Weber is the new gas and kettle braai supplier of Kom Braai. The Kom Braai studio with its various seating areas needed the perfect fire place to create the right amount of atmosphere for our guests, and Earthfire supplied their ceramic fire pit, and it is a beautiful feature, rounding off the deckspace. Intro Spec Cape Town installed our top of the range CCTV system to protect the Kom Braai studio and its content against thieves. A very special thanks to our proud sponsors :

KOM BRAAI DVD AND TV SERIES: On this DVD we show you everything that is needed to start enjoying the wonderful world of Braai and outdoor cooking. We discuss and show the latest in gadgets and inserts of various suppliers and their products. We show you how to build an outdoor braai, and how to gear up your own braai room in the house. We show you recipes, and more than 40 ways on how to entertain your guests with some awesome outdoor cooking. We even give tips and guidelines on making starters, salads and unbelievable bread baking. Side dishes like skewered sausage, smoked rib, spicy rice and even pizza and other ways to make you look like Jamie Oliver (covered in smoke), is covered in this DVD. To serve kids at a braai is always another “problem”, we show you how, and what to feed the little ones. This DVD is a must for all who would love to be called “King of the Braai”, and that title is definitely not reserved for the rugged boys out there. The current Kom Braai DVD is for sale at various Supermarket outlets as well as online at www.kombraai.com. The first Kom Braai TV series is available in a set of 13 DVDs. This is currently only available online.
7 After the successful launch of the DVD series, Kom Braai started an outdoor cooking series on TopTV. Since April we have been cooking up a storm in our new Kom Braai Studio, and to date completed 26 episodes. A TV series without great sponsors, is also not possible, and Kom Braai managed to get some industry leaders to contribute towards our success. Crown National, a proudly Bidvest company, is the spice supplier to the Kom Braai TV and DVD series. Global BBQ giant Weber, supplied all our kettle and gas braai units, as well as some amazing accessories. Ignite is the “heat supplier” to all our braai needs, with their charcoal, briquettes and fire lighters. Vesuvio Estates, the biggest olive oil estate in SA, is the proud sponsor of all our Extra Virgin olive oil needs. Charolais is the beef supplier, while Ile de France is the lamb supplier to the Kom Braai TV and DVD series. SA Pork supplied top quality pork to cook and braai with. Catersmart supplied all our butchery equipment from knives, cutting boards, to a mincer, a biltong maker and a band saw. Castle Marinade is the new exciting kid on the block in the Braai Marinade industry.. Look out for the “beer bottle” look and enjoy the great taste of the Steakhouse, Barbeque, Peri Peri and Lemon and Herb flavours. Every episode also featured a trip to a wine farm, where we chatted to the winemaker and loaded a few cases to be used back at the studio, for personal consumption as well as for cooking. Kom Braai traveled to the Karoo for a hunting experience at Bergplaats Game Ranch, as well as a visit to The Vale Karoo farm and Olive Grove Guest Farm. We were searching for the story behind the great tasting Karoo Lam. Apart from this road trip we visited the Bushmans Cave Theater in Clanwilliam for “skaapkop” eating event. All the action of these trips appeared on our Kom Braai show. Our third series will start on 7 February 2012, be sure not to miss a single episode.
KOM BRAAI RESTAURANT Invest in the Kom Braai Experience Kom Braai is opening its first outdoor cooking restaurant in Stellenbosch, on Audacia Wine Farm in January 2012. This “outdoor cooking experience” will be the template to open 16 more franchises all over South Africa. LIVE SHOWS Kom Braai is currently busy with an active live cooking show campaign, and will appear at expos, festivals and shows throughout SA, during 2012. We started our road show with the Kom Braai Expo in Cape Gate Shopping centre. Here we entertained customers for 3 days with various dishes and outdoor cooking tips. At the 2010 and 2011 Good Food and Wine shows we were involved in the Amarula Outdoor Theatre, where we joined other chefs from all over South Africa, to prepare dishes on the latest Weber products. Dewald was the MC at these events and shared the stage with some well known celebrities like Paul Rothman (Pasella), Edith Venter, Bianca Le Grange and Jenny Morris. Crown National invited Kom Braai to the Absa Wildsfees in Kirkwood. The variety of game dishes on the Kom Braai grill, seemed to be very popular amongst the huge crowds attending the festival.
Chocolate and Fig Festival
Dewald Visser was asked to be the MC at the Chocolate and Fig Festival in Pretoria. He shared the stage with Amor Vitone, Yvonne vd Berg (Glitterati) and singer Gerhardt Steyn. Some magical dishes with meat, figs and chocolate came from the Kom Braai grid. Kom Braai joined the Huisgenoot Namaqua Festival to entertain some of their celebrities and clients on the Kom Braai stage. We braaied for 170 farmers, and then prepared some great dishes for the crowd to see, and taste in the “Pars en Proe Tent”. Kom Braai will be at Huntex in Gauteng in April, at Nampo in the Free State in May, and a massive Kom Braai Fees is on the cards for 2012. Kom Braai Travel
Dewald Visser and Sylvia Smith were invited by Beachcomber Tours to travel to some of their top resorts on the beautiful island of Mauritius, to film the seafood section of the Kom Braai TV series. They left SA on Air Mauritius and were treated like royalty in the Air France lounge prior to departing on their island working holiday. Upon arrival they were transferred to Le Victoria Hotel and Resort, where they checked in for an unforgettable 4 night stay. On the first morning, Sylvia cooked up a storm with Chef Nived on the beach, and he showed her the finer tricks of outdoor cooking, in true Mauritian style.
The next morning it was decided to explore the island, and hit the road to visit Skydive Austral for a tandem parachute jump…wow, wow, wow and another wow… On the way back to Le Victoria, the couple visited the famous Pamplemousses for an unbelievable garden tour.

After a stunning stay at Le Victoria the duo travelled to Grand Baie area, and checked in at another Beachcomber hotel, Le Mauricia. This hotel is in the “young people’s area “of Mauritius, with fantastic amenities like restaurants, disco, swimming pools and a great beach. Once again Kom Braai created some magic with the chefs at Le Mauricia. After spending the evening dancing the night away, it was time to join Island Wings on their seaplane, and afterwards sailed to Gabriel Island for a full day diving trip, thanks to top tour operator on the island, Coral Breeze.

Before departing back to SA, Dewald and Sylvia checked in at Villa La Ramiche, a stunning villa in the mountains, and joined the owner Dominique for a full day of fishing, courtesy of his Fishing and Hunting Outfitter business. Kom Braai would like to thank everyone who made this fantastic dream trip a reality!
