Welcome addresses Mit dem Award werden bereits seit 1987 weltweit vorbildliche Sportanlagen ausgezeichnet. Seit 1999 bemühen sich das Internationale Olympische Komitee (IOC) und die IAKS gemeinsam um mehr Qualität und Quantität im Sportstättenbau. Der zum ersten Mal gemeinsam mit dem Internationalen Paralympischen Komitee (IPC) ausgelobte IPC/IAKS Sonderpreis hat dieselben Ziele, insbesondere hinsichtlich der Nutzungsmöglichkeiten für Menschen mit Behinderungen. Für ihr Engagement sei beiden Organisationen - IOC und IPC noch einmal herzlich gedankt!
This award has been recognising exemplary sports facilities around the world since 1987. Since 1999, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the IAKS have been working together to promote greater quality and quantity in the construction of sports facilities. The first IPC/IAKS Distinction, which is awarded jointly by the IAKS and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), has the same goal, with special emphasis on providing access to sports facilities for people with disabilities. I would like to take this opportunity to thank both the IOC and the IPC once again for their commitment!
Für die Teilnahme am IOC/IAKS Award müssen die Anlagen seit mindestens einem Jahr in Betrieb sein und ihre Alltagstauglichkeit bewiesen haben. Der IPC/IAKS Sonderpreis fokussiert sich dabei auf die Möglichkeiten von Menschen mit Behinderungen, in diesen Anlagen Sport zu treiben oder anderen dabei zuzusehen.
In order to qualify for the IOC/IAKS Award, sports facilities must have been in operation for at least a year and have proven their allround efficacy. The IPC/IAKS Distinction recognises facilities which provide opportunities for people with disabilities to take part - or indeed to watch others taking part - in sporting activities at these facilities.
Am Wettbewerb 2005 beteiligte sich die Rekordzahl von 93 Teams aus 25 Ländern. Das spiegelt die nach wie vor wachsende Bedeutung des Sports und seiner Anlagen wider. Nicht ganz ohne Stolz dürfen wir darauf hinweisen, dass fast genau die Hälfte der prämierten Projekte bereits in dieser Zeitschrift vorgestellt wurde.
A record-breaking 93 teams from 25 countries took part in this year's competition, reflecting the constant increase in significance of sports and sports facilities. It is not without a degree of pride that we note that almost exactly half of the projects which received awards have already been featured in this publication.
Zum 10. Mal trat eine Jury zusammen, um Sportanlagen aus aller Welt mit dem IOC/IAKS Award auszuzeichnen. Das Interesse an dieser Auszeichnung hat keinesfalls nachgelassen. Im Gegenteil: 93 Arbeiten waren termingemäß eingegangen. Solch eine hohe Zahl an Bewerbungen lag noch nie vor.
For the tenth time a jury has come together to present the IOC/IAKS Awards to sports facilities from all over the world. The interest in these awards has by no means lessened. On the contrary: 93 projects were sent in before the deadline. Never before has there been such a large number of entries.
Nach 2½ Tagen waren die auszeichnungswürdigen Projekte herausgefiltert - nicht immer einstimmig. Das Problem liegt ja darin, dass nicht zwischen gut und schlecht gewählt werden muss, sondern zwischen gut und gut.
After 2 ½ days, the awardwinning projects had been filtered out - not always unanimously. The problem was that this is not a matter of deciding between good and bad but between good and good.
Zur Vielzahl der Arbeiten hinzu kam diesmal und zum 1. Mal der "IPC/IAKS Sonderpreis für behindertengerechte Sportanlagen", ausgelobt und zu vergeben. In aller Welt werden inzwischen die Belange der Behinderten berücksichtigt. Es galt für die Jury, die besondere, umfassendere Behindertengerechtigkeit herauszufinden. Besonderer Dank gilt dem IOC, dem IPC und der IAKS , verbunden mit dem Wunsch und der Bitte, diesen Award weiterzuführen. Nirgendwo gibt es alle zwei Jahre einen solchen internationalen Einblick und Überblick zum Sportbau.
Mein herzlicher Dank geht an alle Teilnehmer dieses qualitativ außergewöhnlich hochstehenden Wettbewerbs, meine Glückwünsche gelten den Gewinnern!

Und wie immer gehen Dank und Gruß sehr herzlich an alle Teilnehmer mit durchweg guten Beiträgen. Aber es geht beim Award eben olympisch zu: Dort trennen Dritte und Vierte oft nur Hundertstel Sekunden von der Medaille. Grad so ist es auch beim IOC / IAKS Award 2005.

In addition to the many projects, the IPC Distinction for Accessibility was also to be presented for the first time. The needs of disabled persons are now being taken into account all over the world. The jury wanted to identify a special, more comprehensive, furtherreaching degree of accessibility. Special thanks to the IOC, IPC and IAKS, together with the wish and request that they may continue with this award. Nowhere else can we get such an international insight and overview of sports architecture. And, as always, we wish to thank and greet all participants with all their great entries very warmly. Still, this award is a bit like the Olympics with often just a splitsecond separating those who come third and fourth from the medal. The same can be said of the IOC / IAKS Award 2005.
