Asbestos Duty to Manage Course The “duty to manage” under Asbestos Regulations 2012 is directed at building managers of non-domestic premises and therefore have a responsibility for ensuring that others working in or using the building are protected from the risks of exposure to asbestos. The type of premises that fall under this regulation include all industrial, commercial or public buildings such as factories, warehouses, offices, shops, hospitals and schools. The HSE have provided a useful chart detailing the types of premises that fall within this legislation, which can be located on their website.

Our Duty to Manage Asbestos Course The areas covered within this course tailored specifically for building managers include: General asbestos awareness Current asbestos legislation focusing particularly on Regulation 4 Asbestos survey techniques and types of survey Completion of risk assessments

Why choose i2 Training?

In many cases, it is clear through tenancy agreements, commercial leases or maintenance contracts who ultimately has the responsibility for the maintenance or repair of the building and is therefore considered the “dutyholder”.

As with all of our training, the course will be delivered by an industry professional with hands on experience of working with asbestos and a detailed understanding of the current asbestos Regulations.

It can, however, become blurred if the agreement is not clear, the building is multi-occupied or empty or there are different areas of responsibility across different parts of the building (common areas etc). It is always important therefore that the “duty to manage” is established and that any individuals fulfilling this role undertake the required training to understand their obligations.

The course is specifically designed to provide delegates with the knowledge they need to undertake all of the required tasks to meet their obligations under Regulation 4. We work with a wide range of companies from large corporate and also have considerable expertise within the public sector.

Regulation 4 requires duty-holders to manage asbestos in non-domestic premises, and:

Assess whether the premises contain asbestos – its

amount, where it is and what condition it’s in.

Assess the risks of anyone being exposed to the

asbestos fibres.

Take action to manage the risk from asbestos by

The course is held over one day and can be undertaken by up to 10 delegates at a time. In addition to our public courses we can also arrange on site training for larger organisations who have several different building managers so that they can all understand their duty to manage obligations. preparing a plan of how they will be managed and implement the plan.

Provide information on the location and condition of the

materials to anyone who is liable to work on or disturb them.

There is also a requirement on anyone to co-operate as far as is necessary to allow the ‘dutyholder’ to comply with the above requirements. Practical work is an essential part of this training course, whereby the candidate goes out into the field and conducts a brief asbestos survey with bulk sampling under supervision.
