Neighbouring Property

The rich history of an 1870s heritage-listed warehouse was the backdrop for our eighth collaboration with Grind. For the client, this project represented the next step in the growth of their business, marking their transition from successful coffee and cocktail venues to a full-scale restaurant and bar.

From a design perspective, this meant redefining the visual language that we developed for their other locations and building a new flagship for the brand that would set the direction for their future venues.

DINNING AREA

Spanning two floors, the venue comprises the main dining room, cocktail bar and private dining at ground level, with a more intimate bar and night spot, the open kitchen and amenities in the basement. The materials palette combines plush velvet, polished brass elements, timber paneling and cool marble surfaces. Overhead, angled oval mirrors create unexpected connections between groups of diners.

No.19 I Hospitality

214 Union Road, Ascot Vale VIC Husband-and-wife team Domenic and Diana Caruso commissioned us to develop the interiors and branding for their second café, No. 19. Our concept was inspired by the Greek delicatessens that flourished around Melbourne in the 1950s. Materially, concrete surfaces – the counter, walls and floor – give the space a warmth and sophistication, offset by refined brass elements. Timber-topped tables with banquette seating and Pedrali chairs run the length of the space. At intervals, lightweight steel framing with in-built lighting becomes a sculptural element. A key priority in this project was to develop a strong relationship between the interior design and the brand itself.

Hinoak I Hospitality

7 Coleman Parade, Glen Waverley VIC Craft, harmony and a delicate balance between built form and natural material underpin our concept for Hinoak, a traditional Korean barbecue in Melbourne’s south-east. Our design for the project focused on creating a warm, cosy and intimate space. Spatially, the interior is structured by two banks of timber tables with integrated charcoal barbecues. Specifying LED backlighting rather than pendants retains the sense of openness and visual connections throughout the space. The striking timber-battened ceiling descends gently as it extends through the restaurant, curving into the rear wall alongside the terrazzo-clad bar.
