Welcome
Welcome to the 6th Annual Downtown Hyattsville Arts Festival
You’ll find this year’s exhibitors present a fantastic mix of media and aesthetic moods. We’re excited to expand the number of presenters and we’ve reconfigured the festival layout in a way that will make your visit with us even better than in years past. During or after the Festival please let us know what you thought of our jury’s selections, and how we could make the Festival even more welcoming. In this guide, you’ll find our schedule of performers, a list of our exhibiting visual artists and artisans, our featured arts activities (sponsored by area organizations), coupons for area businesses, community announcements, and the latest Hyattsville Dining Guide. A special thank you goes out to our sponsors for their long standing, generous support. We continue to bring this festival to the community for everyone who calls Hyattsville home or finds it a great place to enjoy. We hope our new visitors will enjoy the emergent destination that Hyattsville’s old downtown is becoming once again. To learn more about our our organization, sponsors, or the Gateway Arts District, please visit with the friendly staff of the Hyattsville CDC at the Welcome Table. And most important of all: buy some art you like, take a taste of Hyattsville’s many cuisines, and have a great time today! Street Art Initiative 20 Murals | Gateway Arts District
Completed in June 2013, the Hyattsville Community Development Corporation, with the support of County Councilmember Will Campos, implemented its Street Art Initiative for the Gateway Arts District. The public art program connected a total of 18 small business/property owners with 8 area artists to use 19 building exteriors as canvasses along Route 1. Artists’ qualifications were reviewed and juried for consideration, then a preferred artist was selected by each participating owner. Murals vary in style and scale. The program was funded by M-NCPPC Department of Parks and Recreation, Arts & Cultural Heritage Division. The Gateway Arts & Entertainment District is comprised of commercial segments of Hyattsville, North Brentwood, Brentwood, and Mount Rainier. View a full gallery of photos online, and find each artwork on the Gateway Arts District Public Art Locator Visit http://www.hycdc.org/street-art and http://mygatewayarts.org.
