March 5 Philosophy Club: Philosophy, Journalism and Pizza! “Journalism as Polyphony: Dostojevski and the Construction of a story” by Pietro Musilli, Journalist, The Africa Report, Groupe Jeune Afrique, Paris 1 – 2 pm Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud Hall, Room CP74, AUC New Cairo Reporting a story is like stripping a fresco from the wall to plant it somewhere else. Journalism should be able to reconstruct the reality represented through the voices of all subjects producing such reality. Mikhail M. Bakthin’s and its actors remaining true to the polyphony that composes and shapes them, returning to the reader a text reconstructed yet still capable of interaction. March 7 Lecture: “Life Experience, Intuition and the Real World” Professor Ernest Wolf-Gazo, Professor, Department of Philosophy 1 - 2 pm Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud Hall, Room C140 AUC New Cairo This lecture highlights the role and function of life experience in the life cycle. It also discusses the phenomenon of intuition, providing a value-added dimension of epistemological value independent of formal methodology. The real world is defined as the one we happen to live in, experienced by common sense and enhanced by life experience, as well as intuition. March 8 Psi Chi (The Honors Society of The American Psychological Association) Induction Ceremony 8 pm Mohamed Shafik Gabr Lecture Hall, AUC New Cairo Psi Chi is the honors society of the American Psychological Association. After a rigorous application process, AUC recently received approval to open a chapter of the society. It will be the first Psi Chi chapter in Egypt. Members will include psychology faculty, alumni, as well as graduate and undergraduate students, who have demonstrated academic excellence. The guest of honor at the ceremony will be Nasser Loza, esteemed psychiatrist and chief mental health secretariat. Loza has been at the forefront of the fight to change Egyptian laws to provide better protection for the rights of the mentally ill. He will lead the ceremony and induct the charter members of the society’s new chapter. The ceremony is open to the public.
