KIDS ARE THEMSELVES WITH US No stigma, no judgment, no fear; just confidence, empowerment, and friendships that last a lifetime.

Our Mission

Hunt with Heart strives to empower and enhance the lives of young people, who are battling severe, life altering or life threatening illness. Our primary objective is to provide respite to these young people and their immediate families through outdoor activities that would normally be out of reach given their unique medical, and often financial, situation. In addition to enjoying the outdoors, members are also provided with an educational experience related to outdoor safety, nature appreciation, and the importance of protecting our natural environment through conservation and wildlife management. Additionally, Hunt with Heart provides financial assistance and emotional support to the young people and their immediate families to help them meet the challenges related to multi-night stays during their medical journey and funeral expenses when a young person passes.

WE SERVE YOUNG PEOPLE BATTLING SEVERE, LIFE THREATENING OR LIFE ALTERING ILLNESS Since 2012, Hunt with Heart has impacted the lives of 48 young people and their families, a majority of which have congenital heart defects. On average, each year, 3,820 or 1:100 babies are born each year with congenital heart defects. As we look toward 2017 and beyond with no known cure, we face an ever-growing population of young people and their families in need of our services.

OUR E M PPROGRAMS O W E R Camp Beaver Creek A weekend-long hunting, fishing, and shooting experience for six young people and their families. Camp is offered twice a year in the spring and fall, and serves as an entry point for families to become involved in Hunt with Heart.

friendships for life

Each year, Hunt with Heart hosts two annual camps for six young people battling severe illness and their parent. Camp Beaver Creek, hosted at the magnificent Beaver Creek Ranch in Milano, TX, is a weekendlong hunting, fishing, and shooting experience. Due to the nature of their illness, most have not had the opportunity to play team or contact sports. Camp Beaver Creek focuses on creating camaraderie, inspiring confidence, and building friendships through the sports of hunting and fishing. This environment focuses on their abilities, rather than the restrictions, of their disability.

The six new Hunt with Heart members begin their weekend with a welcome and guide introduction on Friday afternoon. Our guides are caring men who love sharing their passion for the outdoors with our young people . Following a safety briefing, firearm practice is conducted at the gun range before heading out for the evening hunt.

The first day is concluded with a wonderful dinner and stories around the campfire of hunting success and the ones that got away. Saturday starts bright and early with a prebreakfast morning hunt. After a hearty breakfast, campers choose their favorite downtime activity: riding around the

2016 Campers Jacob Brady Cody Colman Chandler Mahlon Nicholas Quest Anthony Evan Gavin Cristianz ranch, busting clays, or fishing. Saturday evening festivities conclude the weekend with a barbecue dinner, trophy celebration, and sharing their experiences with newfound friends. Bonds created through the power of the outdoors usher these new members into the Hunt with Heart family.

r HUNTING elief AND FISHING r e s p

Once Hunt with Heart young people have participated in Camp Beaver Creek, more opportunities for continuing their development in the sports of hunting and fishing become available, while helping them to continue building camaraderie with young people just like them.

This year, Hunt with Heart was blessed to be able to provide more opportunities to our young people than ever before, through both new and continued partnerships. We are grateful to every landowner, sports-man, and ranch owner that enables us to serve the young people of

i t e

Hunt with Heart.

New partnerships this year included Texas Dove Hunters Association, Sol y Sombra ranch, Wood’s Ranch, Que Pasa Ranch and AAU Adventures. Through these partnerships, the young people of Hunt with Heart had the opportunity to participate in various hunting and fishing experiences from a dove hunt in Hondo, TX to a red stag hunt in Huntsville, TX to a fishing trip in Galveston Bay. These new partnerships allowed for the organization to grow the experiences provided the young people to more than ever before.

2016 Experience

More outdoor experiences than ever before.

We also welcomed continued support from established partners such as the Houston Safari Club and Dream Adventures. The Houston Safari Club provided the chance for five young people to spend the day hunting and fishing at the Double D Ranch. Our partnership with Dream Advententures opened up the opportunity for four

families to spend a weekend fishing with Gary Yamamoto at the BK Ranch, as well as an opportunity for three young people to spend the weekend of hunting in South Texas at the Z4 Ranch.

Since 2012, Hunt with Heart has been more than a wish foundation providing outstanding outdoor experiences; it is a team for the young people, and a family you can count on when you need it most.

Lodging Some of the young people of Hunt with Heart will encounter significant hospital stays during their medical journey. When waiting for a heart for a transplant, or immediately following the procedure, they can be hospitalized for weeks or months. During these times, Hunt with Heart provides assistance to families by arranging for hotels when other housing options for the families are not available.

Meals While there have been huge changes in the hospital dining facilities in the Texas Medical Center in recent years, faced with feeding family members for an extended period of time, sometimes weeks or months, can prove to be challenging. Hunt with Heart provides our families with gift cards to restaurants located near Texas Children’s Hospital for some hot comfort food.

Parking Costs for parking in the medical center can average upwards of $12 per day. Parking can add up fairly quickly during extended stays, so Hunt with Heart provides our families with parking tokens to help defray the cost.

IN MEMORIAM MAHLON HARDT Hunt with Heart young person, Mahlon Hardt, lost his battle with leukemia and passed away in January 2017. Although he had just joined Hunt with Heart in the fall of 2016, he captured the hearts of all who had the chance to meet him.

It was a sunny afternoon on September 17 when over 225 shooters took to the course at Westside Sporting Grounds. Shooting alongside the participants were 25 young people of Hunt with Heart.

The shoot kicked off with a long bird competition, while employees of Spectrum Water Technology served up a delicious gumbo. After lunch, it was time to hit the course for the main event. J. B. and the Moonshine Band kicked off the evening festivities at the conclusion of the tournament, won by DZMI Team. While

the band was playing, shooters and their guests enjoyed Bud Light from Silver Eagle Distributors, dinner, and a silent auction with firearms donated by Quails Forever – Brazos River Prairie.

The evening was capped off with a great live auction including an alligator hunt guided by one of our young people, a vacation home in the Florida Keys for a week and a mule deer painting made by the young people of Hunt with Heart. In total, the event raised over $100,000 for Hunt with Heart.
