SIGMA CHI FRATERNITY
The Sigma Chi Fraternity is truly an International Fraternity with over 182 active chapters in the United States and Canada. The Eta Iota Chapter here at Embry-Riddle is the best social Fraternity on campus, and is ranked one of top 50 chapters within the United States. Each Trimester the Brothers of Sigma Chi actively participate in many school and community projects. Our involvement with the Red Cross Blood Drive, the Easter Seals' Campaign, and the local YMCA Boy's Club, have earned us respect as an organization, and more importantly each individual Brother has enhanced his own personal qualities. The "SPIRIT OF SIGMA CHI" also finds itself on the athletic field. We have won Greek Week three out of the last five years and our football , softball, and hockey teams have excellent victory records. The Brothers of Sigma Chi are striving for " True Brotherhood ," which will not only better their college lives, but will forever strengthen them for the future to come. ALPHA ETA RHO is the only fraternity on campus that is totally aviation oriented . The purposes of the fraternity are: 1. To further the cause of aviation in all its branches. 2. To install in the public mind a confidence in aviation . . 3. To promote a closer affiliation between the students of aviation for purposes of education and research. Don't get the impression that the members don't know how to relax, we do! we know that all work and no play could get very boring . We have a softball team, participate in Greek Week, and have parties throughout the trimester. The constitution of AHP declares that the success of aeronautics depends upon its unified development in all the countries of the world and upon the cooperation of different phases of aviation with each other. It affirms its character to be international and declares eligibility for membership not dependent upon race , religion , nationality, or sex.
LAMBDA CHI ALPHA

Your Student Government Association is comprised of hardworking students, many of whom donate countless hours a week to effect a strong and positive interaction between the students and Administration . Its structure involves three major divisions: The Student Administrative Council , S.A.C. ; The Student Union Board , S.U.B.; and The Student Court. The S.A.C . is comprised of the President, who chairs the committee , the VicePresident, the Faculty Advisor, (Director of Student Activities), the Chief Justice , five Representatives at large , and a Housing Representative. This group handles the Administrative and Executive responsibilities of the S.G.A. They are the final approving authority of fund allocations and purchases such as sound equipment and rental typewriters. They sit on all University committees with a vote and report on these meetings to the S.A.C. for discussion and possible action to be taken. Also, Ad Hoc committees are set up occasionally for special projects taken on . The S.U.B. is comprised of the Vice-President, (Chairman), the Faculty Advisor, the editors of the Phoenix (yearbook), and Avion (weekly newspaper), the manager of W.E.R.U. (radio station) , and the Entertainment chairman. The S.U.B.'s main objective is to coordinate the budgeting of the trimesters' funds between these divisions which is presented to the S.A.C. for final approval , and to provide a good interface between the divisions to maintain a strong communications and coordination. The Student Court is comprised of the Chief Justice, and four Justices. They handle everything from parking tickets, to student flight , or theft between students. Their recommendations to the Administration are strongly considered whether it be a small fine , dismissal of a charge , or a more severe penalty. The S.G.A. is involved in every facet of student life, and has a strong voice in the goings on in our University. All S.G.A. meetings are open to the students, and participation in the S.G.A. is not limited to its formal members. Many students actively participate in areas such as Entertainment, or on specific projects . Participation is more than welcome in order to effect a strong and beneficial organization . The S.G .A. The Club provides for the active participation of the membership in special projects which can lead to spP.cial recognition by the student group, the campus group, as well as to groups outside the university's " controlled '' environment. This Club is a professional development organization . It is student organized and operated . The membership has usually one dinner/ business meeting per month. Over the years, the club has invited one guest speaker per meeting from the industry. The response by industry to come to meet with the Embry-Riddle Management Club has been outstanding and normally produces such speakers as Vice-Presidents or System Directors. They provide our Club members with inside information of the industry and employment opportunities . In addition , these guest speakers may well be the key needed to open employment doors at some companies. The members of the Management Club are students from all programs of the university. Remember, each student will be involved in some form of Management throughout life.

SIGMA PHI DELTA ENGINEERING FRATERNITY Sigma Phi Delta Engineering Fraternity was founded in 1926, and was established at Embry-Riddle in 1960 as Pi Chapter. Since we can only accept students in the Engineering curriculum , we are a small congenial group with common goals and interests. Pi Chapter owns two houses located ten minutes from campus. The buildings provide housing , study and recreational facilities . The function carried on by Pi Chapter is both social and professional , combining profess ional knowledge and social growth . The Engineering program is the most challenging curriculum taught at Embry-Riddle . To meet this challenge, Sigma Phi Delta supplements classroom instruction with a professional program which involves field type trips to aerospace centers , lectures, and study workshops.

PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERlloiG FRATE RNITY
Sigma Phi Delta also strives to provide a varied social program, which is an integral part of a total education . The program includes participation in oncampus activities , intramural sports , as well as fraternity functions . Social events are geared to the engineering students so as to not interfere with their studies . Sigma Phi Delta offers the serious engineering student the chance to mature professionally as well as socially, and can be the source of friendships that will last long after the completion of college .

During my editorship I have seen a yearbook go from near extinction in 1979 to the best yearbook Embry Riddle Aeronautical University has ever seen in 1980. This recovery would not have been possible without such a dedicated staff, also Eric Gruber , Marvin Mayer, Jean Snyder, and Diann Ramsden . A very special thanks goes to Chris Clark tor his outstanding artwork , cover, and endsheets and division pages. Also a very special thanks to Carlos Garcia for his layouts and enthusiasm put into the 1980 PHEONIX Yearbook. Without their dedication of time to teach me the skills needed to produce the best yearbook in ERAU history, it could not have ben accomplished . As the editor for two years I have learned more about working with people, responsibility , and money management that otherwise I would never have been able to gain through books and sitting in a classroom . I have found that the majority of true learning is not found in a classroom but within the world . The world is the largest classroom of all ; if people would just take the time and open their eyes to absorb just a small quantity of this knowledge, they would find that it would make their lives so much easier . With the coming of the new decade and new editors , I hope that they will continue to have the same enthusiasm and dedication as the yearbook staff and I possessed in 1980. A road has been started now in the right direction . I hope that the new editors will follow the road and make the minor repairs necessary to have the yearbook flow more easily . The road is not finished yet so I hope the new editors shall continue to pave the road clearly in order that the next editor shall have an easier time producing their yearbook . Good luck because this task is not an easy one .
